The Tories and the economic libertarian right, have spent 50 years, with their funded think tanks and media lackeys, gaslighting the British voting public. Alcohol is taxed but food is obviously different - it’s a necessity. The issue is that the government foots the bill for smokers via the NHS.

Make it so that you need to go to a tobacconist if you wanna smoke and have restrictive licenses for them.
Have a similar policy for other drugs, sold exclusively at pharmacists and have the pharmacist give safety advice like they already do with over the counter meds

In fairness to her, she does address that. She says the dangers to society posed by addiction for other drugs means they need to be prohibited even for adults.

This is completely unsurprising. It’s basically an open secret that big tobacco companies (among other deplorable groups) donate to the IEA and Truss is very much in the pocket of the IEA. They helped a great deal in devising the mini budget with Kwarteng that tanked the pound! No accountability what so ever

its not about wanting your children to smoke. if it becomes illegal, that will just fuel the black market tobacco trade, and people will still smoke. Also how the fuck are we going to police that? Imagine a 71 year old smoking and his friend wants a cigarette but because he's 70 he' gets arrested? That's an insanely stupid amount of pressure to put on an already overworked police force.
@@whirlwhind666 no they won't. The amount of smokers has declined year on year (25% down to abut 12% for 18-24s between 2011 and 2021). Society is becoming healthier. Young people are much more likely to go to a gym than smoke. This law would accelerate this societal change.

Why ‘accelerate’ this change with policy that forces people to buy black market tobacco with little to no quality control while the government misses out on the obscene amount of tax they could be collecting? You end up with all the same social issues with more stigma and less funding to address them.

There are some other uses for the drug but the other side of the issue here is that puberty blockers were and still are used for other medical purposes than gender affirming care and those affected are under 18. A blanket ban would put these people at risk.
Its also clear that the Cass report was not read fully or that they simply cherry picked the parts that support their view, its very clear why Truss was the worst PM in UK history.
