Sunlight can influence the breakdown of medicines in the body
www.sciencedaily.com/releases/...
“A new study has shown that the body's ability to break down medicines may be closely related to exposure to sunlight, and thus may vary with the seasons. The findings offer a completely new model to explain individual differences in the effects of drugs, and how the surroundings can influence the body's ability to deal with toxins.”
Widespread seasonal gene expression reveals annual differences in human immunity and physiology
www.nature.com/ncomms/2015/150...
“Seasonal variations are rarely considered a contributing component to human tissue function or health, although many diseases and physiological process display annual periodicities. Here we find more than 4,000 protein-coding mRNAs in white blood cells and adipose tissue to have seasonal expression profiles, with inverted patterns observed between Europe and Oceania.”

only thing i like about winter ................................... there are no mosquitos
Hahahh!! Here its snowing like mad we are like .........ow that white sh.t is falling again. Its like 0.5 meter high
Me to I hate mosquitos, over here in Texas, it gets tons of mosquitos
im in Europe in Balkan
+GamingNinja Global warming
+MrDick Butt Get this, those fuckers actually exist during winter but not as much..
But I like the cold winter...
Well whee do you live
+Zeyu C So cold though :(
+Zeyu C Not if you live on Vancouver Island. What we have here is closer to a rain season than Winter.
+Deebo Molina Oregon is awesome, i hate to be warm
Same
I rather put on 20 layers of clothes than have my skin melt in the summer.
+Matt Merrill Damn right you are you.
+Matt Merrill
You bet, you can always remove layers but you can't do anything when it's too hot.
I would like winter if it didn't get dark at 5pm
+Matt Merrill I rather like heat. I work around steam equipment all the time that gets very hot in summer, and I still like it better than the evil creep of cold air.
+backforty2 Just a couple weeks ago I was up on a communication tower in a cold wind and I was froze through. Took hours to feel warm again.
Things I love about winter:
1)No poison Ivy
2)No mosquitoes
3)No sunburn
4)No humidity.
5)Snow. Snow is fun. Snowballs are fun. Snowmen are fun. Sled riding is fun. Snow sparkles in the moonlight.
6)Hot cocoa and fresh pie season
7)Scarves are nifty
8)Good hiking weather. No joke. Bears are hibernating. No insects or poison ivy. Trees are absent of leaves, so great views of land and rock formations.
*BUT IT'S COLD, YOU SAY.* Bitch, please, I am a small 105 pound woman who knows how to put on some boots and winter gear and enjoy the cold.
+Cosmic Rogue I don't get snow.....but everything else is on point! :D
Sun burn?
Your country can't even get 40c
+Cosmic Rogue same
Dvlzmlg H I'm American, yo.
But you can get sunburnt because of snow.
The cold isn't rough on my body. I much prefer it.
Give me -5C over 35C any day. I sleep better, eat better, and can exercise for longer.
I love you
Well someone who born and raised in sunny Mediterranean country and now living in Canada temporarily, I do not understand why anyone would live in a cold climate. People and culture are also seems less warm, too. Lack of sun is the major problem more than the cold in my opinion when it comes to the psychology and culture. I literally enjoyed everyday of the summer this year, can't wait to leave. Four seasons with a short winter is the best.
My body is telling me that it's time to hibernate. My boss disagrees.
Do you mean have cold shower/bath rub twice a day, or do you have something else in mind?
I always wondered how growing up in a warm tropical environment has affected people over generations, both psychologically and physically. I wonder if weather has had an influence on people's mental health and if that, in turn has shaped societies and influenced cultural norms.
Melissa0774, I wonder this too!
Well most people here in South Africa can't handle the cold and it's incredibly warm and we can stand 35°C weather most people shiver at 10°C while Canada is usually -7°C. Our small tribes here just sleep in the winter/they're just very inactive in winter, and we have a shit ton of mosquitos.
Those who live in colder climates are forced to innovate ways to stay alive in those conditions. If not exposed to these elements, then there is less need to progress in that area of survival.

@@user-vv1do1wg1j I live in Northern Canada and its 4°C and was walking around in shorts and flip flops. The weather is great 😎 It was -26°C a week and a half ago so Im happy with 4! 35°C would destroy me... I am black but born here.
it's funny when it's winter you want it to be summer but when it's summer you want it to be winter
That's so true
Nah...I hate winter
That just means you're depressed
Witness incorrect
+Angela Nomiddlename Juric nah, wwhen its winter I want spring, and when its summer I want fall. Fuck summer and winter
I love winter
Come to Finland! -30C°
I find it patronizing that I'm being told this by a person who lives in California
Californians don't know real cold. Where I live it can get to -10 degrees F during the day... The cold can change a man.
+StoreBrand indeed man
+StoreBrand i live in Southern California and it is 40 degrees in the morning and 50 in the afternoon. a lot of people are cold because we are used to 100 degree weather, I personally love the cold. (-:
+StoreBrand how many is -10F in Celsius? Cause we have -29C° right now here
CessnaIsNoGodGG It's about -23°C. It's been lower than -10°F it's just that when it does go under 0°F it usually hits around -10°F.
I hate getting less sunlight, I work nights so in winter I go to sleep when it dark and I pretty much wake up in the dark I barely see the sunlight and you can definitely feel it on your body.
sleep in a sunshade bro
I get sick more often in summer and spring. In winter, I just feel like resting(with brief periods of extreme focus). On hot days I get exhausted, and my mind is foggy (even with adequate hydration). My eyes can barely stand the glare from the sun. I like grey days, when the sun is hidden by the clouds.
hey did you know carrots are good for you're eyesight?😆
I love winter: it is cold, it is grey and it gets dark early.
Same, 🤣
i love winter - my favorite season! there are no mosquitoes - a huge plus in my book. also, i suffer from a nerve disease (complex regional pain syndrome), and my nerve pain is so much less during cold weather; it's just awful in the heat & humidity of summer.
i would love it if you'd do an educational video on CRPS!! it's so poorly understood (even by doctors!)...i didn't even know about it until i got it.
Winter > Summer
Summer> winter
Spring=Autumn
+Alex Luna Summer = Winter. It's always shit.
I'm PC bro, I like them equally.
+VirtualVictory Are you an ad by any chance?
Um am I the only person who loves the winter and hates summer?
Same
Same
Yes
You're not alone
Same to
I notice that in all the winter songs or Christmas carols dealing with winter, among the lyrics about the joys of snow, winter wonderland, making snowmen, ice skating, sleigh rides, sledding, never once do we find the word "shovel."
🤣
I've lived in Michigan for nearly 17 years and the only thing I hate about winter is when it's sunny with snow on the ground. It always blinds me. I hate having light-sensitive eyes. The coldness doesn't hurt, either. It's just chilly. The shorter, grey days are much more enjoyable for me. I've always had an easier time breathing in the winter rather than the summer as well.
I guess I'm one of the few people who actually like the cold.
Dosent everybody have light sensitive eyes??
CessnaIsNoGodGG I get migraines from too much light. My eyes will water and I will become blinded if it's sunny out. It doesn't even have to be a bright sunny. Just a normal sunny day and I have to fight to see anything.
And no, not everyone has light sensitive eyes.
+Makinah Starkey There might be special sunglasses for people in your situation.
Robert Lozyniak I _had_ sunglasses before. I have to have prescription sunglasses if I want sunglasses. It sucks because they bug my eyes.
I love winter and my skin loves the cold. Born and raised in Washington State!! Besides the sun causes wrinkles.
I personally love the winter. Living in the southeast US, the humidity in the late spring to early fall is unbearable. Late fall until early spring is the only time of the year where I like being outside. I am usually sick during the warmer months with either a sinus infection, ear infection or some other issue such as allergies (which is getting better since I get shots). I never get sick in winter. I am also a night person, so I feel great and alert when the sun is down, but I start feeling significantly worse when the sun is up.
I would be interested in knowing the physiological changes I go through in comparison to most of the population.
I hate the winter - four months of solid low temps, arctic wind, hail and rain chills everyone to the bone no matter what clothing you wear. The low constant ache of bone and muscle as you get older as well as immune system disease due to severe vitamin D deficiency is a big problem here where I live 😕.
I think it's interesting when you think about winter and then think about the social activities we've created around the "holidays" to bring people together and lighten the mood of the season. Subconsciously we've always known about the affects the seasons have on our bodies and have combated them with alternate things to balance things out
Colder countries, such as those in Northern Europe, have very healthy, successful, vibrant and happy populations. So, perhaps the harshness of winter has more profound positive effects in the long run than what this clip suggests.
Haha what? The Scandinavian countries have the highest suicide rates in the world..
+Synne And Better to have suicide rates than murders right?
+irocktype95 totes! Much better to hate yourself than to hate others 🎉😃
That is unrelated to the climate. However, in the video it was said that those countries with hot climates have weaker immune systems and more disease, so the health bit may be related.
+CPD XD101 Maybe not, but certainly for the past 500 years there has been so many fantastic achievements in science, art and most of all standard/quality of life in central and northern Europe than any other place. Human civilization has entered new plateaus because of the type of thinking and work that has taken place there, an Europe in general throughout history. Of course they have had a myriad of problems as well, but no one else on earth, save the Japanese, have come even remotely close to the type of cooperation and constructive choices seen in Europe. Even when they have been devastated by wars, they have come back stronger and better; unlike other war ridden places that can't seem to solve their problems for centuries after (such as the warm middle east and latin America). I declare that happiness allows for people to be more constructive, as seen in Northern Europe. I know that to many I'm coming across as racist, but please trust me that I am not; I'm not even white. I'm simply pointing out very obvious facts and observations, something more people should be doing in hopes of making the world a better place. :)
I fucking love winter
I hate the cold, just sayin.
+L33TBrownGuy I love fucking winter
me too for some reason when its grey and cold outside I feel happy
+Brandon Hernandez We in my town call it living in Ithaca. It is always grey and bleh, but if we go elsewhere, it is like "GO AWAY BURNING EVIL DAYSTAR!!!"
+L33TBrownGuy Not if you live in europe.
I live in a place where it's hot for most of the year. Despite that, my body seems to work better in colder temperatures ( between -5°C and 15°C ). I also get sick once a year on average and it is always when temperatures are at its highest ( between 26°C and 42°C ).
I love winter nights. They match how my soul is.
Oh wait, I don't have one. I meant my heart.
+Scott Velez hello fellow ginger!
Edgy ou your scary
***** I'm so edgy I scare the children BOOGA REREAHER,REEEEH! Scared you didn't I?
na just a whiteboy tryna be funny after him trying to be edgy...
I work outdoors all year round in Ireland,so I get more than enough daylight all day , then when the sun goes down I get home and I'm tired. Its a very lucid dream like feeling when I get to bed early, curling into the pillows like a cat and I love it. Then during the summer I'm fishing during the evening in river's and from craggy shorelines in the ocean and just rambling the country side around hills etc rocky coastlines, hilly valley's etc best of both worlds
I've recently learned about vitamin D (sunlight) deficiency. At least 3/4 of Americans have vitamin D deficiency and it's causing problems like rickets to come back. We only get Vitamin D in any meaningful amount from the noontime sun's UV-B rays. Most people aren't out at that time, most people aren't out at all during the winter, and you severely loose your ability to make Vitamin D as you age. Even if you eat salmon and drink vitamin D milk every day you aren't getting nearly enough. Luckily a years worth of Vitamin D pills (the D3 variety is what your body can use) are less than $10. Now if people just new they needed it for a list of bodily functions to work correctly.
America needs the sun's D haha
+qqq1701 There is vitamin D in milk aswell :)
PezDJ
I said that in my post. A small amount is added. You would have to drink about 10 quarts of milk a day for it to be helpful.
qqq1701 is being sponsored by GSK labs. haha
+qqq1701 Too bad the science on vitamin D is all over the place and there is no general consensus on how much we actually need and if having too much (in supplement form) can be harmful etc.
"Why do I live somewhere where the air hurts my face?!"
I laugh as I'm sitting in my own home, in a hat & scarf and clutching on to my cup of tea to stop my fingers from freezing..
+Lucy Odd Where on Earth are there so badly built houses that you need hats and scarves to keep warm? UK?
I like winter man. I'm lucky it doesn't snow here, but the cold is a nice welcome from constantly being sweaty most of the year!
Another thing about the cold that I like is, when you're hot there are very few ways you can actually cool down, but when you're cold you can always throw on layers.
I live here Artic Longyearbyen, I love dark season/winter so much.
I like autumn the best. winter is just a little too cold for me, but I like having four actual seasons in the year, so I deal with it as best as I can.
Tropical countries have only one season. The hot one... The extremely hot one.
I don't mind it getting darker earlier. We need darkness as well for a good night's sleep for things to rest and recharge for the wear and tear of the day, and all that. Plus when it gets darker is when I go out jogging because, in hotter months, it is sometimes too hot in the day and the sun can burn dog's paws when we walk on streets and side walks. It's just the cold in Winter. The cold is the real problem. (-.-)
I wonder why we even have Winter. I mean there's probably a reason for it, but I can't think of anything right now.
7 hrs, 7 likes =D
TheChosenOne =O
You're totally right! =D
And if RUclips still had it where you get notifications when you get thumbs up, I would have known that. (-.-)
+Yay Me It's because the sun is further away from the planet. And think about it this way: No mosquitoes, no earwigs, no wasps, less fruit flies, snow is beautiful, dead ground gets covered up, you can ski, and kids love playing in the snow. Also, you can cover up and protect yourself from the snow, and it's better than burning up and not being able to do anything about it.
Who the hell hates winter?! Winter's the best time of year!
Take your words back! I hate warm winters.
I visited my fam in New Orleans week of thanksgiving and my energy and mood where more noticeably different in winter
My cholesterol is higher in the winter because of Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner, gallons of egg nog, chocolates, pumpkin spiced everything, holiday cookies, hot cocoa, New Years parties, more chocolate...
I love winter. I always sleep best during winter and skiing is fun
I actually prefer going out more when its freezing out. I can breathe better, and it looks awesome at night. the summer on the other hand, harder for me to breathe, and gets way too hot.
I love curling up by the fire with a good book, but I also cant wait to go out and play in the snow. I find that the thinner colder air is just that much easier to breathe in. (I have apnea for those curious), and I almost never get sick in winter, since I'm out more. However, my cholesterol is still high, and I dont digest well.
Am I the only one who feels significantly better in winter? Both emotionally and physically. Sunny weather exhausts me, and the heat is loathsome.
dafauq?? I love winter... everything about it... Living in Alaska for a few years was the best time ever!
I like the winter though. I love the cold and the darkness. And never get sick in winter either. And im healthy.
The thing I hate to most about winter is the cold requires significantly more time to prepare for simple errands. I sometimes call a cab even though I own a car because the cab won't take 20 minutes to warm up and defrost the inside faces of the windows. 2nd is I lose significant dexterity because either my hands and body are wrapped in a thick glove to prevent frostbite. If I take off the gloves the hands go numb sometimes in 10 minutes, faster when touching cold surfaces. Meaning tasks like auto repair or electrical work are very difficult to do outside. The ONLY things good about the winter is the lack of insects such as mosquitoes, ants, and flies. Also It's easier to sleep(obviously! cold and dark) as opposed to long days and hot summer nights.
I love winter and many people don't experience the ill effects and in some cases, these people benifit positive effects, myself included.
Love winter and the cold. Perfect excuse to snuggle!
Snuggle with what?
I love winter personally I grew up in the north and moved to Florida (ugh) I’m dying to move back to snow cold weather I find beauty in it I also feel more energetic when it’s very cold I hate warm weather I don’t want to do anything I feel depressed because I don’t go outside when it’s hot or warm.
I love winter!!! I don't mind the cold and snow as long as it's sunny. I just went for an hour walk in -15F. I was hot and sweaty, I had to go home.
haha I have low vit D levels and super low cholesterol. Also I've been living in hotter countries for 4 years now and still LOVE winter. Not bone chillingly cold but -10 degrees, sunny and no windchill and a beautiful covering of new snow, bring it on! : )
I live in subarctic and Arctic areas and personally I feel better in the cold. I literally suffer if its above 26 C. There must be individual variation in body reactions and preferences for this too.
I use sweater when the temperature is 25 degrees. I am surprised. 22-28 degrees is the best temperature for me.
I live in Southwest Florida and we celebrate whenever it gets below 60°F.
Down with Fall back! Daylight savings year round!
i love the cold wearher in winter, i can stay out -50 below degrees fahrenheight in the middle of lake (as thats where i spend most of my time during winter) and i am still comfortably warm, and no its not hypotherma.
Cold like -5C is nice but -25C is awful (at the momement in finland)
watching this while i live an hr away from northwest territories
Tropical weather has lots of tropical viruses and those damn mosquitoes. Not so lovely when you're in a hot and sticky environment too. I'd like to live in a place right in the middle of warm and cold.
For some reason I always end up having panic attacks in the winter. Even when I think I'm free off them I end up having a really rough time in winter. It sucks.
I miss the winter. I live in Hotlanta and we've been getting temps up to the 70's
so, I live in Ecuador, pretty stable weather al year long and 13h day 11h night, what happens to me?
I thought that when the Sun goes down faster which is around 5 or 6 the sun comes up early which is around 6 or 7am? but instead the sun goes down around 530pm and the sun comes up around 7Am? does that mean that we get shorter days shorter sunlight?
I also ❤️ winter and the atmosphere it brings.
I just love the winter, especially lightning storms.
I break out into really bad hives whenever I exercise in the cold. Can someone explain why this happens to me or if its common. It never happened to me when I was young...
Julia, if you hate winter you will like Brazil, now in summer the temperature is around 38ºC in most areas.
Its 10 degrees F outside right now, there's a bout a foot of snow, and there is a a gloomy overcast hovering over everything. But I much prefer this to summer and hot weather. I like the cold.
yeahh, iknow something for sure... Justin B loves winter
You make my eyes dilate Julia!
I love winter❄️⛄️❄️ ...I love all the seasons... for different reasons!🌈
Then my body is strange. I don't get sick or anything during the cold. In fact, I feel stronger in the winter. I thrive in it...
what does it mean if the cold doesn't effect me. For example in the past month where I live, some days it has been below freezing temperatures, yet I'm not cold. Can anyone explane why?
you are used to it, different from those pussies
i like spring and fall cuz the weather is perfect
WHY DO PEOPLE HATE WINTER I LOVE IT! SKIING, SNOWMOBILING AND A LOT MORE
But I LOVE winter so much......
i lived in washington state for years and i got sunburnt a few times from being outside so long on cloudy days pretty sure i got too much vitamin D at times living there
The inclination of the axis of the Earth certainly does not cause either hemisphere to "lean closer to the Sun" (meaning that that hemisphere's warmth is caused by decreased distance). The warmth is caused by both the sunlight striking more directly, and the longer duration of sunlight each day.
I'm dying for warmer weather , but it's funny where I live one week it'll be 65 and next week like this week it'll be anywhere from 20-40
I live in South Carolina, what is this winter of which you speak?
Live in Florida, never seen snow or seem to ever really get cold down here, it sucks
IKR
I am not doing well this winter. I feel so sick. My throat is always sore and I am always in pain.
living in Florida were it's mostly hot is awesome when winter comes lol
"MORE RESEARCH IS NEEDED"!! As many times is the case
Your a blessed Angel Julia!
Damn i need to move out from terrible winter here in Chicago (
What I like about cold weather is when I bicycle in cold weather, my muscles don't hurt as bad and I don't get very sweaty.
I love my winter. I stay in Regina, SK
Any studies on ways to mitigate these effects?
I hate the cold.I love reading and other indoor winter activities.
i just hang out in my indoor garden.. its always summer in there :)
I grew up in a below zero winter time cold climate area ( note.... zero meaning 32 degree below the zero point via water freezing at 32 degree fahrenheit temperature measurement ) thus and had experienced mild frostbite many a times when I was growing up and or when I was working outside jobs etc as a young man young adult etc etc.
OK.. Now with that in mind think about this? I now live in sunny Az and I am in my late 50s age. So nowadays when it gets below 70 degree fahrenheit which is 38 degree above zero here in sunny Az I can feel that very same frostbite sensation in my feet that I felt when I was younger ( P.S. I have always had cold feet sensation in my feet my whole life via maybe from poor blood circulation ) anyway! I`m think my frostbite sensation I`m experiencing nowadays is probably due to frostbite nerve damage I did to my skin ( feet ) when I was younger ( I move to Az 17 yr ago to get out of the freezing cold and damn It wouldn`t you know it! ) I`m still feeling the frostbite of the zero temperatures..
I go outside like 5 minutes a day. Outside there is just car exhaust pollution. Then you see those health freaks going to work by bicycle, taking very deep breaths next to rows and rows of traffic. Super healthy I'm sure....
Nope I love winter. The pain of freezing makes me very very happy and giddy
I love winter as it encourages to have alcohol in night and a cup of hot tea in morning..
Winter is awesome. I love winter. The more snow the better. I hate summer. To hot and humid where I live.
As a teen living in a hot island, Mauritius, I hate it when the sun ray hit my skin, even if it's just a bit... I would rather live in a cold country.
**GASP!** But I love winter, I guess we can't be together anymore... At least I still have Amy
But what if I like winter....
Winter is the best season..
the background music is relaxing
This channel is the king of clickbait titles but man I love how they raise questions in your mind
I had heard that leaves fall from deciduous trees and shrubs due to a reaction to the increasing shortness of light rather than from any temperature factor.
