  • Here's another old track I have just found in my archives; (probably taped in the 1960's from the BBC "Jazz Record Requests" radio programme). Originally recorded just after WWII, it is a good, early, example of the kind of jazz that the American musicologists were anxious to get into their museum archives -before it was too late!!
However, when it was heard by some of MY generation (brought up on the 'ballroom' dance music, romantic 'torch' songs etc. of our parent's generation) it really hit the spot -and initiated what came to be known as "The New Orleans Revival". More of the old musicians were found, recorded, and their techniques copied by enthusiastic devotees, in many countries, over the following decades.
The line-up on this track is:- Thomas "Papa Mutt" Carey; tpt. Albert Nicholas; clt. James Archey; tmb. Hank Duncan; pno. Danny Barker; gtr. George Murphy "Pops" Foster; bss. and Warren "Baby" Dodds; dms.

Bears a strong resemblance to "Nobody Knows the Way I Feel This Morning." Incidentally, these players were somewhat more sophisticated than those recorded in New Orleans about the same time.

No version of jazz could ever be terrible in my opinion ;)
And it works as a great sleeping aid when you play smooth jazz with that one site with the HD rain loop.

Why nobody is mentioning the great pianist "Hank Duncan" in the picture rolls of this clip??? It is really wierd to exclude this great man from the list of the musicians!!!
