my dad works for boeing and he was told to fire 10% of his crew for cost cuts last year and he absolutely refused, forfeiting his bonus to keep his team employed. he said they're trying to fire people who are necessary to the teams to line the pockets of the higher ups. so that's probably why the plane was built wrong

I work in aerospace and I can tell you this is 100% the case. As well as them expecting us to go back to prepandemic quota's with drastically less staff and tools that probably haven't been properly calibrated since March of 2020

Dim Tool doesn’t know this, but pilots are not the same people who assemble and manufacture airplanes. They’re trained to fly them, and for any pilot to get anywhere near the controls of a commercial jet, pilots need at least 1,500 hours of training.
Meanwhile, many corner-cutting airplane manufacturing companies will pay someone with no degree $20- $30 an hour to work on commercial aircraft, while Boeing asks for the FAA to overlook certain safety regulations to allow the MAX7’s to fly.
Also, “DEI” doesn’t exist in the blue collar world. Very, very, *very* few people looking for skilled labor are taking one’s race/sex/gender/whatever into account. They’re simply hiring based on who can do the job they want to be done for the money.
So yeah. It’s not a “DEI” problem or whatever. It’s (surprise, surprise) a corporate greed issue.
The pilots in this Alaska Airlines situation handled everything extremely well, even though the co-pilot’s headset was blown off their head and the emergency checklist was also blown out of the plane. 10/10, I would trust those pilots to fly me anywhere. Just not on a cheaply built airplane lmao

exactly, as and AMT mechanic there is no room for error and Boeings cutting corner has taken too many lives, they need more qualified and experienced assembly workers with the right qualifications and experience. Sometimes only one loose bolt cant cause a chain reaction and cause a crash. luckily this was a door plug and not a elevator mount bolt that could have put the plane in a nose dive for example. Following torque specs on aircraft is probably the most important factor in Maintenace. All comes down to mitigating human error and poor assembly of 737 max. torque on these bolts to the fuselage are maybe around 120 ftlbs to 150ftlbs so anything under will come loose during flight
@@christiancosa9290 As an Ex-AET now engineer who worked with many AMT I agree with you, many of my colleagues have told me how insane the quality-to-quantity difference is with Boeing aircraft. Its really strange why people are arguing this with political reasons when it is clearly a hardware/manufacturing and maintenance issue.

This makes my BLOOD BOIL! I used to be a flight attendant for United, and a few years ago they pushed a campaign to highlight the diversity in their hiring.
One flight out of Chicago, we had to deplane and reboard after weather delays, then had to deplane again to switch aircrafts because our white, ex marine captain didn’t do his prechecks before we all boarded and missed a mechanical error. I understand people being frustrated but some crusty old white man screamed at me and told me United needed to focus more on hiring qualified pilots like they used to and less on diversity while he looked around at our gate and ramp workers who were all POC. None of us control the weather, but the man who missed the error that would have stopped him from having to waste his time boarding again was the PICTURE OF A GOOD OL WHITE PILOT that he would have loved. Unfortunately this mindset is real for a lot of folks.

Having worked in aerospace manufacturing, I can tell you the problems most likely comes from a boss expecting someone with only a week or two of training to know how to do everything and then multiple companies rushing through inspection because "we gotta hit pre-pandemic quota's."

A bit of a MRA guy I knew graduated from a degree and was super pissed off that a girl from the same degree got a good job straight away when he didn’t. When you're a private pilot with your own plane like a Piper Cub or a Cessna 172, you would. But Commercial Airliners don't use little personal two seater planes lmao
It's never a thing in the commercial airline industry. Pilots have the cockpit/pre-flight checklist that they do but that's it. Everything else is by ground/maintenance crews.
My husband works in aviation on a program that does work on Boeing aircraft, and they are *notorious* for cost cutting measures that make little sense.
He stated the most likely scenario is that the door needed replacing, but they weren't using the door anyway, so it was likely cheaper to just plug the door hole with a makeshift panel and that's what they chose to do instead of properly installing a new door. He said it could be an engineering mistake or an installation mistake or both, but either way the people that ultimately decided that a plug would be cheaper and they should go with that option will not be the ones facing the repercussions for the error.
Oh, and the entire aviation industry has also had staffing issues for years as less and less newbies are available to fill the spots of the retirees, but I'm sure that had nothing to do with the oversight. 😏
Actually according to the book Outliers, diversity can literally prevent plane crashes. Asian countries had more plane crashes before they mixed it with American training. Because Asians have such a strict respect of authority, the co pilots wouldn't tell the pilots problems with plane until they crashed. In America we're expected to speak up. So they started emphasizing that in Asian training and it decreased the number of crashes.

Ive worked on a few production lines and I'll bet everything I own they probably have a lot of bipoc employees on the line but the production quotas and working conditions are so aggressive and crappy that they don't have the time of energy to do things according to Boeings (and federal safety) standards.
Can't even begin to tell you how many times I've seen it firsthand. I get hired and I wanna do the best I can in my role but established de facto procedures makes it impossible if you wanna keep your job.
And don't get me started on the hours. Bet they're pushing 6-12s and barely get any rest.

What's also not discussed is that SATs are objectively culturally biased (in that they privilage a culture that has access to a specific type of education on many a useless things). Most of these standardized tests on primary school level are honestly just fronts for strip people of money in a textbook/testing market that floods local education funding with an arbitrary hierarchy based on who will actually purpose programs/study aids, along with universities who prioritize such (they accept funding in exchange for using these tests as a metric for students, when what's actually going on is that the score is more like a Frequent Fliers number). It's why most programs at the upper end of education, the transition from Undergrad to Graduate school, have done away with such exams like the GRE. I thought Pimothy Tool was against such standardized testing that stifles creativity and the learning process with his nuero-divergent ass.
SATs are not “culturally biased” you dolt… they’re class biased. It all depends on the quality of school you go to.

The DEI committee at my work is basically just a book club. They just meet and talk about DEI topics. LMAO. I’ve been trying to get them to do actual DEI initiatives since I started at the org. but I think this year I’m just going to quit the committee. All this to say, that’s my main experience with Diversity, equity and inclusion. Everywhere I’ve worked, it’s a bunch of white people meeting to talk about these issues and pat themselves on the back. Definitely not making process. Certainly nothing for republicans to fear 😂.
There is no way to over pressurize a plane; they have automatic mechanical pressure relief valves that keep the pressure differential at 8.4 psi MAXIMUM. The pilot cannot control that valve at all. I’m a mechanical engineer and have had to do crack growth analyses on 737s. The relief valve is essentially a plunger with a spring holding it closed that opens when the pressure is stronger than the spring.

The plane was above the threshold for people getting enough oxygen when the plug blew out so the plane had to get to 10,000 feet just to make sure people could survive. I know all pilots are trained for this sort of thing but it’s still incredibly impressive that everyone on the flight was fine, not to mention lucky that no one was sitting in that row. Oh and that was a pretty new plane that had had some small issues in the last couple months but I’m sure it was totally black people, Dimothy.

I'll be forever grateful to my third grade teacher who, unlike most scools I came to find out later, taught us the pure, unfiltered, history of Australia. As did my own parents. I grew up with more understanding towards First Nation Peaple than I would have otherwise had, had I gone to a different school. One where they only taught that the they English "helped" when they get here.

Majority of the Students are always from Asian countries. I don't know if the school has a program but my whole life living here I have seen the students going to and from school, they walk and ride their bikes. I think they really shouldn’t give iq tests except for in specific circumstances where it’s used as a diagnostic tool, and then maybe don’t even share the number. People put way too much stock in the number. It’s just how well you take tests filled with certain problems adjusted for age. In middle school I took it and got a 175. This is supposedly higher than Einstein. It’s delusional to think I’m smarter than Einstein. As a matter of fact I’ve met dozens of people with lower iq than me who I know for a fact are considerably smarter than me. And I also didn’t even do abnormally well on the sat or act. I got a standard high score. While people with lower iq than me got almost perfect scores. I simply was interested in those kind of puzzles as a kid. That’s all.
