I’ve got two a6400s. One fully is rigged out and is pretty much only used for video. The other is fully naked and lives with my 50mm 1.8 on it, always ready for portraits. Having two is admittedly a luxury, but having the video rig always ready and not having bulky add-ons on the stills body really streamlines my processes.
I want a rig, but finding it impossible to find one for my Sony FDR-AX33! Yes, it's a camcorder, but its 4K and has loads of manual features 😁😉👍 Love you Nigel 👍😉🤗
@@IXISSV there are a number of companies that make cold shoe cheese handles that'll work with your AX33 in the $25-50 range. Also, if need more connection points, something like the Smallrig Camera Cage 1658 might work because it's a modular half cage.
I like your no-nonsense tips which position creativity over "feature overkill". There exists so much iconic photo/video stuff in the world which got produced with an ancient equipment.
Smashing video as always, you’ve always been one of the few guys I can relate to with camera gear. Glad to see your channels smashing it 👍 looks way better than guys with setups 5x more expensive 👌
Very nice video again. That sun hood is pretty cool. In my experience it can be very important to rig your camera. It can change the atmosphere on set. I once shot a music video and the band was not really professional. But as soon as I put my cam on the tripod and it looked so professional, they also turned. When I shoot some private stuff I'm usually not using a rig but on a client's job or a project where others spend their free time for, I always use a rig.
I stumbled upon your videos recently, and this one has helped me heaps with a few minor things to look for, especially looking for an ND with hard stops. I noticed the small 'ding' when the card about your 2019 reel came up as well, its a nice little touch! A really well made video.
Really dig your channel man! All the information was to the point and consise and and as someone who shoots on a hacked gh2 I was stoked to see that you are using a gh3!
Great video! I just got a 35mm prime Meike lens for the holidays and was really impressed with the quality of it. I’ll have to checkout some of these other options
Just getting into video from your channels, thank you! Also noticed that you're in Oregon, awesome! I'm down here in Eugene. Thanks for all the helpful information!
Great video as always Nigel, awesome looking rig, good call on the lilliput A5 I've had one since 2018 and i also own it's big brother the A7 and they're a joy to work with
Hey nigel i love ur tips and i love mirrorless camera...i have the canon m50...this will be an epic year...love the budget side of film making...from love from trinidad and Tobago
Great video! I have a G7 as a B cam and recently built a really nice rig using spare parts from my main rig, I´ll upload a video on "How to use spare parts for you B Cam" Cheers from México dude!
I've seen Meike lenses, and I haven't heard any reviews on them. So it's great to know that you are using one. Hopefully you'll give us a review? By the way I don't use a rig. The setup I use the most is a monopod with my G7. I'm going to check out the Meike lens.
I've seen quite a few reviews on them around though haven't played with one myself since I have a speed booster that takes my old Nikon glass. The general consensus is that they're Good Enough especially for the price point.
Subbed! Just come across your channel and its awesome. Also, you sound like the mammoth from the ice age which is dope. Look forward to your future vids!
Love your videos, excellent info, but the music in this one is a bit intrusive, in particular the bass which overshadows your voice (I listen using Shure earphones)
Thanks for this interesting video. As I still own a GH3 and start to get interested in making videos I'm currently searching for a rig. To be prepared for the future I would like to get the smallrig cage for the GH5. Do you know if this would fit also for the GH3? There are the two cages 2646 and 2049, both for the GH5. Would any of these fit for the GH3?
Hi Nigel I have a G7 and have it rigged out with a Smallrig cage and top handle as well! My question is why you didn't opt to go with the Lumix 25mm f/1.7 as your lens since it's almost the same price and is a native lens.
1. I was linked by the $300 camera video and thought it was a hair tutorial video. 2. Do you have a resource for cinema drone shot improvements? 3. Thanks for your incredible content. Bonus: Seflie luts... Favicon "SLUTS" on your RUclips page. Was that done intentionally... lol? I need answers.
Does this rig eliminate the "micro jitters" you might get from the gh3's non-stabilized sensor? I have a gh5s (no ibis) and I'm considering doing something like this so I can take the camera off my monopod/stabilizer.
Question, I have a lumix g7 and it’s rigged out I was going to add a monitor but I was told you can’t film while using a monitor with the g7 do you have any suggestions ?
Hey I wanted to know what camera would you recommend if I wanted to shoot my own music videos and do RUclips videos. So I want something that's professional but not too costly
I don't get all these rigs, they look awful cost a lot of money, I see Panasonic have a new range of camcorders coming out at 4K 60fps, by the time you've bought a camera, a rig, lenses microphones, screens and so on you might as well have bought a camcorder that has all you need a looks smarter.
Camcorder? Like with 1/2” sensors? I think why people rig out mirrorless cameras is the advantage of the larger sensors and interchangeable lenses as oppose to the small sensors and fixed lenses of a camcorder. Thanks for the feedback though!
@@NigelBarros The only downside I can see at the moment is the small sensor size, I'm going to wait for some reviews on the new Panasonic cams as it seems for less aggravation than getting a G9 then all the other gear you need to buy.

I've got the 1658 already in my amazon wish list 😉 I'll get it rigged out sooner or later 😁 👍
I recently unveiled my modular shoulder rig for my EOS M.

The meike lens is not available in canada? Is it ok to buy the 25mm 1.8 meike instead?

Nice. I wonder if that Meike lens is the same (optically) as their cinema version. It's a lot cheaper!
This was an awesome video! What effect did you use in the beginning to switch the camera to when it has the cage?
You're providing a very valuable service to the community :)
Just brilliant bro. I needed this setup especially the external monitor. Thanks 😘👌
Love the suggestions! Been needing a good monitor to land focus better on paid shoots. Keep up the great work!

you rock bro! love the channel so far. Just stumbled on you and glad I did. Thnx!
Great video! What screw on hood is that? Most of what I see online are rubber.
It’s a generic jjc hood you can find on amazon. Just make sure you buy one that fits your filter size

Wish you would have included some footage and audio using the rig, but hey, still good recommendations

would you say that the meike 25mm is better than the lumix 25mm 1.7F?
Great video. What did you shoot this with since you were showing the GH3?
I shot it on a lil panasonic GX7 and recorded audio with a mic and my iphone :)
@@NigelBarros that's great. I wish I could get an image like this outta my M50.

Will the Meike MK-25mm F2.0 M43 offer me any advantages to sharpness or details compared to the Panasonic 20mm f1.7?
Can you access the battery easily?
Great video!
Question, I have a lumix g7 and it’s rigged out I was going to add a monitor but I was told you can’t film while using a monitor with the g7 do you have any suggestions ?
I like putting a light on top and the monitor behind with a $20 flash bracket.
Sample footage?
do u know if it works on a nikon d5500 ? Great video, congrats. +sub :D
nikon d5500 12,4 x 9,7 x 7 cm
gh3 13,2 x 9,3 x 8,2 cm
How is the desqueeze option on the lilliput ? (is there a custome desqueeze mode or only some preset like 1.5x and 2x ?)
there is also a desqueeze mode

🔥
Do you use a gimbal?
can you please tell me how you made that wood background for your youtube videos?
Noam Apelfled two $20 fake wood panels from Home Depot! 👌🏼
@@NigelBarros Thanks
do you use panels or stickers?
do you think stickers are also a good option?
Мечтаю о таких камерах как у ВАС!
How much does the camera cost with all the accessories
What price is everything the camera has
Just mount the mic on the side of the monitor, there was a female screw hole there. Just add a pin there and set it there. Or just tape it there haha
How much does all of them cost in total
Why not put your mic on the side of the monitor, would still be aiming the same direction but get out of the way of your hand.
Mostly because that brings the monitor up kinda high, but that is a good option as well
would be better if you showed some footage shot with the rig at the end
Basically looks like any handheld footage, the rig doesn’t so much affect the final image, more so the functionality for the operator
Would the lens fit the G85?
Yes it will fit the g85
The video is focused on the camera on the table, not on your face?
Rad.

Lol well a gh3 is not really cheap, not expensive but not cheap.
Guess it all depends on the person, to me $300 for camera like the gh3 is pretty affordable, especially in comparison to other cameras
The GH3 definitely is cheap for what it does. You could shoot a feature on it and it'd look great, even in 2020.
