Playing OneShot was such a refreshing experience. Having you, the player, be an integral character in the story distinct from the one you control was so novel to me. Also having your computer be part of the game world, although this could have been played on a bit more.
OneShot, Undertale/Deltarune, Va11halla, Portal, Steins Gate 0 and Va11halla are my absolute top favourite picks of all time, and it's sad that just because it's sad these games were narratively superior to rdr2 people got pissed off
Is that supposed to be a good thing? When small indie game characters are obsessed over and seen as people’s pfps all the damn time it kinda repels me from those games, as stupid as it sounds. For instance, One Shot, A Hat in Time, Undertale, and Celeste are all games that I bet are good, I just don’t want to play them because the fans seem way too attached to it and make it their personality. Well, not all fans, but a big enough percentage that it makes me uncomfortable.
@@SmoothTurtle840 It is a good thing. It might be tempting to reject what is popular for the sole reason of it being popular, but you're really doing yourself a disservice by not at least trying them. Good things getting popular is a good thing. One game that perfectly fits in this genre that deserves more recognition is Anodyne by Analgesic Productions. It's a bit spoilers to say, but the game largely plays like a normal Zelda-style action puzzle adventure until you get a literal "game breaking" item that's required to find all the secrets and complete the game proper by exploring outside the confines of the game's wall tiles. It's extremely cool and worth looking into.
Probably the best "rantsona" to date with that stellar animation and your voice flows seamlessly from voicing a character moving around to a narrator of game footage. Subscribed.
Outer Wilds' "Echoes of the Eye" DLC used wall clipping and graphics failing to load as main mechanics for getting past a certain puzzle. There were clues that this is what you were supposed to do, but most people didn't realize that was what you were supposed to do, because it didn't occur to people that wall clipping could be an intended mechanic.
whenever funke drops a new video, i remember why i picked computer science as my degree and i come up with new ideas for games to develop. lovin the new art style too, just amazing
I have to seriously tell you how amazing your videos are. I find myself rewatching a lot of your videos, this one especially. The pace, the visuals, the storytelling its amazing!! If you see this keep up the good work and create more videos so I have more to rewatch😅
congrats on escaping SFM! writing, animation, and editing were on point and the video was great as always :) i love wreden's work so i'll definitely have to go check out the magic circle if it's anything like that (and hammer_space too for that matter)
I was just about to comment that I can't wait for you to blow up because of how much of a meteoric rise in quality your content took. Then I saw you're damn near reaching a million! Good work funke, you deserve it
This has got to be the coolest informative video I've ever seen in my life. The writing, the animation, that gags and jokes, and especially the intro and outro. I always come back to watch this video for these reasons. Never change Funke, never change.
I think my personal favorite example of no-clipping through walls is hoiking from Terraria. It's undeniably a glitch, yet so many people liked and used it that Re-Logic basically adopted it as a permanent mechanic.
@@Chaospirex it's rarely brought up, but the few times characters 'heating up' is mentioned it's always very on-the-nose, one such example is a tournament fighter talking to the protaganist about a sparring match to help him get back in shape, he says "No flaming blue death moves!" in reference to the special cutscene attacks you can do in the series, as well as the fire aura that surrounds characters when they're in heat mode that only one protagonist has brought up, and the fanbase theorizes he has schizophrenia.
It might have only been shown at the very bottom of the screen for a split second, but the fact you "mentioned" Moonlighter brings me so much joy. It was my favourite game at one point, but when I searched for people to share my experiences with, nobody seemed to have even heard of it. :(
A good example of a game with an out of bounds easter egg is the game "Tower of Guns". One of the rooms in the game allow you to escape the bounds of the map. If you have a gun with enough knockback you can fly to the top of the tower and get a ton of powerups and bonuses. The game also just has a ton of secret areas with fake walls and hidden spots you have to platform to.
Outer Wilds has really cool game breaking mechanics. The only DLC to it literally uses glitches to jump out the map to complete objectives, but it's all justified by the games story so it doesn't "stand out". Pretty heckin cool!
In my old high school game design class we would always think about fun ways to use coding in a game and not have it be garbage. The Magic Circle seems like the perfect execution of those ideas, and now I really want to play it
Hi, I'm just here to say that I really love the specific version of the funke study theme that's in the outro of this video. It just scratches some kind of deep musical itch in me
OneShot only got a side note, but without notes. I'm malding so hard. The entire game is literally about you, a separate being outside of the game leading Niko to his goal. Literally the whole hook of the game is in its use of 4th wall breaks. (I'm not actually malding funke, don't take these comments _too_ seriously)
Right?! There’s an entire video’s worth of things to say about it, there’s scarcely any other game that truly utilizes the fourth wall like it does, not for dumb gags but as puzzles and the entire story basing around it.
To be fair, when i played the game i was never really hooked that much on the characters outside of neko, all of them seem to barely care about the fact that their world is dieing without a sun and infact alot of them seem to be just carrying on with their dull lives, i never really grew attached to any of them other then neko cause he felt more three dimensional
Anodyne 1 and 2 has some interesting out of boundaries post game content. Anodyne 1 you get a device that lets you swap tiles and Anodyne 2 has collectables that require you to get out of bounds. Theres also a hidden Nitrorad that requires you to be out of bounds to find.
Great video- and the fact it is done in blender feels a bit more refreshed too. Love seeing these videos commentating on peculiar mechanics. Thanks for the upload!

It's extremely cool and worth looking into.
Probably the best "rantsona" to date with that stellar animation and your voice flows seamlessly from voicing a character moving around to a narrator of game footage. Subscribed.
The editing on this video was so high quality and smooth, I don’t know how you do it but your content just keeps getting better Funke
Must be absolutely terrifying being a videogame end boss knowing your opponent can clip trough 3 dimensional space
@MageBurger don’t they call those horror games?
That's called 4th dimensional travel.
Or realizing that there is one corner of the area you're in that you can't reach where the protagonist is.
"delay your game or i'll delay your breathing" miyamoto
with every new video i am more and more impressed by the editing and animation
whenever funke drops a new video, i remember why i picked computer science as my degree and i come up with new ideas for games to develop. lovin the new art style too, just amazing

I have to seriously tell you how amazing your videos are. I find myself rewatching a lot of your videos, this one especially. The pace, the visuals, the storytelling its amazing!! If you see this keep up the good work and create more videos so I have more to rewatch😅
I love your videos, they're just filled with creativity. Your animation style is fantastic too!
congrats on escaping SFM! writing, animation, and editing were on point and the video was great as always :) i love wreden's work so i'll definitely have to go check out the magic circle if it's anything like that (and hammer_space too for that matter)
I am so glad you're bringing attention to The Magic Circle, thank you
Yes! The game is so unique!
I keep coming back to that outro... love those FMJ-esque vocal harmonies and the use of the bass's timbre.
I'm so fucking excited to see someone else mention the masterpiece that is The Magic Circle.
God I love this animation style and humour so damn much
I was just about to comment that I can't wait for you to blow up because of how much of a meteoric rise in quality your content took. Then I saw you're damn near reaching a million! Good work funke, you deserve it
You can't wait for him to blow up? Well, what are you waiting for?! Just light the fuse atop his head!
I love the animation style. It’s nice
This has got to be the coolest informative video I've ever seen in my life. The writing, the animation, that gags and jokes, and especially the intro and outro.
I always come back to watch this video for these reasons. Never change Funke, never change.
WOW MY VIDEO MADE IT TO THE BIG LEAGUES. Great video by the way! Very entertaining and informative 😎
I love cat video!
I think my personal favorite example of no-clipping through walls is hoiking from Terraria. It's undeniably a glitch, yet so many people liked and used it that Re-Logic basically adopted it as a permanent mechanic.
It’s even better the second time
8:11 The subtle Terminator 2 reference is acknowledged and appreciated
Think your the only other person who also saw the reference
@@Dallas_Payday_2 A man of culture I see
I never watched Terminator, but I still got that reference
Gotta love the coopmode clip right at the beginning. Such a great channel
Goddamn man you really flexing with the animation now. The fact you have that on top of your excellent, unique analysis videos is just *chefs kiss*
the heat mechanics in the Yakuza series has to be my favorite examples of this, along with the combat in general.
How so?
@@Chaospirex it's rarely brought up, but the few times characters 'heating up' is mentioned it's always very on-the-nose, one such example is a tournament fighter talking to the protaganist about a sparring match to help him get back in shape, he says "No flaming blue death moves!" in reference to the special cutscene attacks you can do in the series, as well as the fire aura that surrounds characters when they're in heat mode that only one protagonist has brought up, and the fanbase theorizes he has schizophrenia.

Big fan of the way the Outer Wilds DLC implements this as well
I'm always amazed at how much your craft has evolved throughout the years, Wonderful stuff. Happy to see what you make next
Always a big fan of the outros. It’s just something I always look forward to in FUNKe videos.
It might have only been shown at the very bottom of the screen for a split second, but the fact you "mentioned" Moonlighter brings me so much joy. It was my favourite game at one point, but when I searched for people to share my experiences with, nobody seemed to have even heard of it. :(
1:40 there’s a few popular clips for speedrunning ULTRAKILL where Hakita(the dev) leaves little messages that pop up
Literally going through game dev school right now and am trying to make teachers and students aware of how magic "The Magic Circle" truly is.
You're such a good animator dude HOLY good job dude
you sound like Leafy tho
Jesus Christ the way you animate is outstanding and I LOVE the way you talk omfg
The Magic Circle seems like the perfect execution of those ideas, and now I really want to play it
you privated this video in the middle of me watching it and I actually thought it was a bit as part of the video. 11/10 4th wall break
7:55 MORE CRAIG PLEASE thank you
look at the junji ito video he made
So I was chilling, listening to emp Lemon while playing Bloodborne, and then this video played and HOLY SHIT THEY CAN'T NOT BE THE SAME PERSON
I would love it if you made a sequel video going in-depth into the second scroll.
That little tune at the end tickled my crainium nicely with those harmonies

as someone who always has trouble finding the beginning and end of videos the chapters really helped me out here, thanks man!
(I'm not actually malding funke, don't take these comments _too_ seriously)
this is the worst day of my life i just found out im gay 😢
@@Sleepy_Cabbage im pretty sure that the whole point of the game, only you and Niko are the "real" living people
@@nickylag3912 that doesn't really make for a interesting world for me, its probably the same reason funke forgot most of the game
1:24 that was a smooth transition tho
Great video- and the fact it is done in blender feels a bit more refreshed too.
Love seeing these videos commentating on peculiar mechanics.
Thanks for the upload!
These videos are too beautiful and amazing and now I’m mad because there’s no other content like it and i need MORE
