  • Andrea Boardman is being trained by Hunter to be a Gladiator, while Philippa Forrester and Richard Orford watch on with Darren Day from the comfort of the studio. The fact that Philippa intimates that this is her first day on the job makes me wonder whether this is the 1994 series-opener [EDIT: so maybe Sunday, 4th September, I'm told on Twitter - the first to be broadcast from Kent House, the LWT/GMTV studios]. Either way, I'm afraid the cartoons have been cut out (obviously), while the ad breaks are as they were on the tape. It's a crying shame we don't get any of the brand new series Woof Woof Means I Love You.
    Right at the end there's a bonus clip from the end of a different tape recorded a couple of years earlier. This comes from ITV's Telethon, so is definitely of historical interest, but it's too short to warrant its own upload, so I came up with the idea of simply tacking it on to this one.
    Many thanks to David for providing this tape.
    (To the best of my knowledge, the contents of this video have never been available commercially anywhere in the world. Please also note that I don't monetise any of my uploads. Nevertheless, if you are a copyright holder and have an objection, please don't hesitate to contact me.)

      The animated intro was actually from the US Disney Afternoon block on ABC. it was recycled here in the UK for Disney Club.

      Yeah, I always liked him, too. I've just looked up his website and the news section hasn't been updated since 2017, but it seems he's still doing voice work and writing.

    YES! Disney Club! Remember this VERY well :) Thanks for uploading. Used to watch my FAVE cartoon at the time on this show! Aladdin the TV series! Still waiting for the whole series to either come out onto Blu-Ray or on Disney + :/ Still waiting... *edit* Holy Crap! The first showing of it!! 0_o the first day of it being aired! wow!

      Yeah it's doubtful it will ever get a Blu-ray release, heck we may not even get a full release on DVD. This is Disney we're talking about and they haven't treated a lot of their shows with much respect, probably due to lower then expected DVD sales of their other shows I assume? But who knows maybe one day, but then again they can just let people stream these shows nowadays via Disney+

    Thanks for the clips. I don’t suppose you have any footage of when Craig Doyle presented Disney club on GMTV?

    Talk about nostalgia! I’m one of the kids on the show 😂 would love to find clips of the gunge games. Took 10 washes to get that muck out of my hair!

      Oh, wow - that sounds like great fun! I'd have loved to have gone on something like that. I'm afraid finding clips of these shows are like a needle in a haystack, but hopefully your big moments will pop up one day.

    Sorry about this 10 year old me was on random mode it would seem, especially with those ads. I think I would try and catch the ads that looked the most interesting (Soda Stream and Nintendo for sure as seen here) and try and record them, however I only wind up getting half due to the slow nature of my VCR as well as myself not thinking about how hard it is to capture a full ad that's about 15 to 30 seconds, when it's just easier to record the whole break. I do recall that tape having the first airing of the Aladdin TV series on it, but I forgot that apparently it was the first to air in Europe as a whole. I'm kicking myself as we were just about to see that Nerds ad in space, before I cut the tape back to Disney Club, sorry about that. Also this must have been when they decided to merge the GMTV Disney programme (Disney Adventures) with Disney Club (on CITV) as a whole, adding an extra hour and a half to their total time. Sorry again, 10 year old me wasn't into soaps. Again, sorry. Though at least we got that last bit of ITV Telethon 92 at the end, yeah I agree might as well have included it here where it's relevant at least. :)

      Not to worry - clips like these are so hard to find at all, I'm always delighted with whatever I come across! Consensus seems to be that this is most likely the first edition of the 1994 series, and it's obvious they've pulled out all the stops to open with a bang. Gladiators, Aladdin (less than a year after the film came out over here), new presenters, new studio, _and_ a new soap series - that's what I call an overhaul!

      @@VideotapeFTW Indeed and it was in the autumn (early September) when they would overhaul a lot of things with new series, studios etc. on many of these TV shows. I found out about it more the previous year when CITV bombarded s with new series during the autumn of the previous year. I'm glad to see though that you and many others had enjoyed seeing all these clips. :)

      I've said it before, but I absolutely _love_ these Saturday/Sunday morning magazine shows - in many ways they define whole eras of the childhood of that generation. It's so sad that they're lost in the mists of time unless someone recorded clips, like you did. (They'll never be repeated or released on DVD or Netflix or anything.)

    • @David315842
      @David315842 2 года назад +1

      @@VideotapeFTW That is true. You can't preserve magazine shows the same way as actual magazines, unless someone recorded these very religiously. I'm sorry that I'm not one of those people, but at least we have some things to look at at the end of the day. :)

      I didn't record past the classic cartoon and such, so sorry about that. Maybe someone else may have a clip of it though perhaps? Who knows?
