I was hyped to see Terry and seeing the shit he got, I kinda understand how the MC fanbase feels. Sure it's disappointing not getting your favorite characters, but the game is meant to appeal to everyone, not just you. The smash community's biggest enemy is the smash community itself.
I played when I was in school mostly starting at like... beta 1.2 or 1.3? And earlier than that a little bit of the old browser based minecraft. And now I'm 26!
Same. Me (22), my middle brother (15), and my youngest brother (6) all grew up playing Minecraft. We all wanted Steve in Smash. Side note: it’s really nice that Minecraft has lasted as long as it has. I like that me and my brothers all have a game that we can like and play together. It’s a rare sight to see.
For me it's more about them adding a character from a dead series to maybe rivive that series or boost it a little. Like golden sun or tales of. But Minecraft doesn't need that boost. But Steve does deserve a spot in the game to be fair.
@@laughingseal2282 smash is literally a fighting game with a bunch of Nintendo characters (Mario, link, KIRBY) and they want to go at minecraft for being childish
Your cousin and his son are the exact type of people Nintendo and Microsoft are aiming for. They don't care about enthusiasts because their numbers are small compared to the common costumers.
I didn't even realize Minecraft was considered a kids game until a few years ago. I got into it in college when it first came out and it seemed like any other indie game.
In short, "If you got incredibly hyped for Terry making into Smash, then its pretty unreasonable to get mad that the new generation of people are getting *their* Terry into Smash."
That's about right, ngl. Personally the "Terry" dude, except I'd love a playable Chun, but I'm hella stoked amd intrigued by Steve appearing in Smash! And in terms of Minecraft, it's a fun game that's more than a decade old now - and I knew about it from the beginning when I was ending elementary. I don't understand why people are flipping their shit, but ayy, to each their own :p

Being upset about putting in the "kids game" Minecraft is such a weird thing to me. Look at the majority of characters in this game: Mario, Pokemon, Zelda. Not only were those games when we were kids, there are kids growing up that start with the new Mario or Pokemon along with Minecraft. Banjo was added, I'd call him a kids game character. He was for when we were kids, I bet some other kids grew up on the XBOX re-release, I wouldn't even be shocked if at least one kid grew up with him thanks to Rare Replay.
Right now, most shitty kids in 2020 don't play Mario, Pokemon, etc since they have free games (Fortnite, Roblox, Lego, Phone game) and some of new kids love playing Minecraft yet. (Probably parents/boomers recommend it) I thought that's the joke about calling Minecraft a "kids game"

I played Minecraft from about ages 12-15 with my little brother and a friend. I'm gonna be 21 in January. It wasn't my favorite gane in the world, but I thought the reveal was amazing (even if I was only thinking about the memes)
Carl Azuz Y’know I wondered about this statement because majority of the main roster (Like before Ultimate) basically everyone is already in their 20s or shot pass their 20s namely the Mario, Pokemon, Kirby, Metroid smash fans who have most likely grew up playing these games so I’m surprised they’re fussing over Minecraft.
@@lordmetallium9678 Honestly, I played fortnite with my stepsis and it's not half bad (though still not my cup of tea. I prefer FGs and RPGs). I started playing it in my late 20's/early 30's... because I grew up with the NES/SNES era of games and never grew out of them.. Looking at the dislike Ratio on character reveals... I'd say Steve is doing better than Byleth. -And I loved Three Houses- *Edit:* Didnt think people were still Upset about Byleth going by these replies lol

I remember getting it on pc when it was in beta, I must have been 8 or 9 and I didn’t understand crafting so after dying lots I quit. Then I picked it up on every console gen since and even last Tuesday I was helping my friend build his version of a San Fransokyo type city.

That's like a small portion of the fanbase, from what I seen the fanbase love each other and love their games, the ones who make fun of Sonic and are generally sarcastic are usually the ones people call toxic. Point and example being Game Grumps when they play ANY Sonic game
I haven't seen anything bad come out of the Sonic fandom in years, only people who endlessly complain about how bad it is for some reason. Sonic is, always has been, and (unfortunately) always will be the "cool thing to hate".
Its also exciting what comes next. They'll probably focus on revamping the movesets for veteran characters, add some new mechanics, and cut the roster back to Brawl's numbers (30-50). Ultimate will live on like Melee because we'll want to play with the huge roster.
@@NatalieRath Oh no, I am happy of what everyone has gotten so far that Nintendo went through the trouble of including to make the unlikely possible. I'm still quite young, having known Minecraft since 5th grade. Now, I'm an 11th grader. I barely know who Terry was at first. Heck, a lot of them were unfamiliar to me. I don’t personally like Minecraft, but Minecraft means so much to people in general, that he being put into this game is like taking other people’s childhoods and throwing it against some others. It’s what smash is. So I’m not upset about it, I’ll purchase him and try him out Atleast, if I like him I might keep playing him, but that’s that. Even if he’s emotionless and has negative connotation by people who don’t have a level head, he’s still what people want. So I can definitely accept his existence and give him a shot. The stage looks appealing too though.
In my opinion minecraft, despite eventually being bought up by Microsoft, is the mascot for indie games. Especially since Minecraft was originally an indie game that began to get a lot of popularity

Just because it made somebody else happy, doesn’t mean you gotta act like a baby about it. I’m personally not a fan of Minecraft, but I’m a final fantasy fan. I have my character, cloud, but the people on the side who isn’t happy is acting way more ridiculous than with other characters. This was Banjo for me. I'm a teacher and my students play smash. When Banjo got revealed last year, none of them knew who he was but it was awesome for me. Now they're really hyped about Steve and its awesome to see them happy
People are talking sh*t about Steve being a "children's character", does anyone else realise how stupid that sounds? Minecraft isn't as much of a children's game as Mario, Sonic or Mega Man were or still are. Minecraft was literally a game built to be a fun side project by Notch and he kept running with it, he didn't care who it was for, he just wanted to make a good game. Children only started to like it because Mojang started to start advertise it to that age group even though much more adults played it at the time. And then Microsoft picked it up and started to run with that demographic but kept in mind that the game was still for everyone. That's ignoring the impact of RUclips. So yeah, I'm hyped for Steve, much more than Geno as I don't even know what he is from. Haven't played minecraft in a couple of years but I have so many good memories of playing it with my friends.
Also I think it’s dumb they’re getting mad because they are getting mad over a character in a game which most people think of as a children’s game as well
Geno will never happen cause the most money they will get from adding geno is like 5 dollars You could say that about banjo but banjo has multiple games that can still be officially played Sorry for yelling GENO IS FROM ONE DAMN GAME THAT CAME OUT AT LEST 20 MAYBE MORE YEARS AGO HE IS A SONY CHARACTER THEY WOULDN'T GET MORE THEN 5.99 OR NOTHING (cause if you bought the fighters pass that money from that character is fighters pass money singer character is singer character money) NEITHER COMPANY WOULD GAIN ANYTHING FROM ADDING GENO CAUSE IF THEY ADD GENO PEOPLE WOULD WANT TO PLAY MARIO RPG. Not gonna lie, I was a bit salty about Steve at first. That being said, I cant argue that he fits the mold of Smash so perfectly. I think back to when I first saw Game and Watch in Melee, I was like damn this is a weird ass/quirky character. But he is so out of left field thats why I love it. He honestly looks kind of fun to play and at the end of the day i think thats what matters most.
Smash is honestly all about having fun with characters that come from your favorite games. It wasn't meant to be taken so competitively and seriously to the point that people are actually mad about characters being added.
I was a bit salty at first when I heard it, but I kinda came to the same conclusion that Max did about it. Steve might not be the character for me, but Smash is a celebration of gaming and minecraft is the best selling game ever. You can't talking about gaming as a whole without paying some mention to minecraft.

I know that they're is some characters in the Smash roster that I didn't like *cough* Banjo & Kazooie *cough*, but I didn't go around and got all pissy and call it a waste of space. As long as they're fans out there that like their character, that's all that matters.
"Potentially, the kids that grew up playing Minecraft are in their 20s now" Damn dude, that makes me feel extra old when I think about growing up playing on a NES..
Character is from Fire Emblem or First-Party: "Wasted slot" "Another Swordsfighter" "Boring" Character is completely ridiculous: "A plant got in over ___" "Nobody asked for this" Character is popular and third party: "Waaaaaaaaah" Smash community can be pretty toxic sometimes. They could have waited a couple hours until the showcase lol
I mean, there is a point there with fire emblem at least. They're getting better about the newer ones they add, but I mean, there's like 3-4 fire emblem characters that feel so similar in playstyle that it's just not enjoyable imo and they do feel almost like wasted slots, same with how all three of the links before ultimate just felt like the exact same character with different speed attacks. It's just that, I would like the characters to represent more than just "here's another main character, from the same series, that's a swordfighter", fire emblem has swords, axes, lances, bows, staffs, tomes, werebeasts, Pegasi, etc and it took them like 5 characters to finally do something aside from exclusively swords, and it wasn't until Byleth that we finally got a character that used the other weapons in the game as much as the sword. You know? Like, I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.
@@rugalbernstein5913 except the ones that feel the same are marth (default), lucina (marth echo), roy (also an OG), and chrom (another echo), all the rest are very much unique so what's the point complaining about THEIR inclusion?
@@MoojinBoi 1. Overrepresentation. Fire Emblem is "overrepresented", to the point that they took 3 DLC slot (Roy, Corrin, and Byleth) since Smash 4. The same can be said to Mario and Pokemon (although each of them only have 1 DLC if Piranha included), but they don't have one flaw that is... 2. Monotone representation. It's a shame that Fire Emblem is a very diverse franchise, only to be represented by mostly swordfighters. Robin and Byleth challenged this, but it still feels like they don't do the rep justice. We still have no primary lance or axe users in Smash overall (remember that embarrassing weapon triangle tournament?), and Fire Emblem franchise can actually fix this. Instead, we got another sword, sword, and sword. If I can keep FE characters in expense of others, it'll be Marth (OG), Robin (Magic), and Byleth (Weapon Triangle).
Almost every community is toxic because it's mainly filled with die hard fans that try to command whatever the series is, I tend to just stay out of them
Funnily enough, I found Max through Smash reveal reactions and I stayed for his commentary. Heck, I'm not even a big fan of fighting games. Let alone games like Final Fantasy or the Souls series. But his commentary and playthrough are the reason of why I stayed. Even because of Max, I'm starting to lose my addiction of watching RUclips and going into Twitch instead and that's saying something about his personality too. At the end of the day, games has connected us as a human being the most. Which is not a surprise if it's also the easiest place to found toxicity. If it wasn't for Smash, I wouldn't even found out about Max. These days, it's rare to see strangers giving compliments to other strangers who they have never seen or will not ever meet in real life. This is probably the only time that you will see me. Who knows? I'm just happy to see that people are happy and I respect people who has different opinions than me. Thank you for always being yourself, Max and thank you to you too for reading my comment until the end.

I love just hearing Max talk. I don’t even like fighting games that much which is main thing but like these reaction/topic discussion vids are just really well structured
The thing I like about them putting in Steve is that they didn’t just do it for money but they put real effort into making such a unique character with such a unique move set that it looks exciting to play and it seems like that runs true with all the other DLC characters
Because Minecraft Steve was revealed, I finally understand how older generations felt with characters like Banjo and Terry. Having a character from a game you played while growing up in a game you’re currently playing is an unreal experience.

The contract isn’t fulfilled until either Master Chief or Doomguy get in. Doomguy is a little more believable since Doom games have been on Nintendo consoles
As someone who played Minecraft when I was 7 years old it was a huge part of my early childhood, and now 7 years later, it makes me happy that Steve, the character from the game I love, is in smash and I’m glad that Sakurai noticed that Minecraft was a game that meant a lot to some people.
Hoping for Sonic Mania 2 or whatever they're going to call it soon. Sonic 1-3 were the first games I got into when I was like 4-5. Sonic Mania was the game I had been waiting my whole life for. lol
Not me, I’ve had a lot of fun with the games before mania, the ones that most see as “mediocre” are legitimately fun to me. Lost World, Colors, Generations, Unleashed, etc.
I’ll be honest, I’ve played quite a fair amount of sonic games, and I only really liked rush and rush adventure, they’re in my top 5 favourite games of all time, personally.
They did me a solid when they gave me Ridley. After that I was always grateful with whatever characters got in. I have never played minecraft but its such a weird pick that it made me happy because of how random it is. (I will say though if they add someone like Morrigan from Darkstalkers I will turn inside out lol.)
I agree, back in the previous smash, I was excited because they were going to add a character from Fire Emblem Awakening. I was sure that it would be Chrom, so you can imagine my disappointment when it was revealed to be Robin and even more so that they added Lucina. I lost all hope at that point. But then Ultimate came along and granted me that miracle, so I was already satisfied at launch.
Morrigan would be so sick but she's way too lewd for Smash lol. It's harder to censor her than it is to censor someone like Bayonetta, although she would be cool. If we get another Capcom character it'll probably be Dante or Phoenix Wright. Personally I think Viewtiful Joe would fit perfectly though
The same thing for me with banjo, ridley, krool and hero to a point. I don't give two shits about these characters. I didn't realize how much I needed this video and open the curtains on my dark perspective on Steve's reveal. I literally felt nothing and waited for him to get kicked aside by another notable character and I would freak the fuck out. Steve was going to be a Mii costume or something but here I am watching the trailer feeling nothing but there was some bit of understanding in the back of my head about why that character got in. I knew Minecraft was huge and worth stupids amount of money but no matter how many times I watched Lets Plays I just couldn't feel invested. I know there's a creativity aspect to it and seen some great work put together but in general I just couldn't see myself playing it. I'm getting a text from my best friend asking if he's still dreaming and I could only laugh. I viewed other RUclipsr's just to see them freak out on the reveal like it was something freaking amazing but I couldn't work that mood in as well as they did. I'm happy for you Minecraft folks that's been a big supporter for a very long time. Congratulations on making it in. As Max pointed out Terry and I was gushing out tears of joy while jumping like a madman some of you guys didn't know the character and I've seen the hate. I'm going to need to be a better person and clap for getting in. I'd probably react the same way if Sans got in instead of Terry or maybe even Geno. I need to stop being selfish and realize Smash is a game for everyone.
Yeah but steve still makes more sense than sans even though i like sans as a character, minecraft was revolutionary even though i couldnt get into it, just not for me, i feel like some characters makes sense but we've also been conditioned to expect 3rd party characters but also characters from best sellers, undertale was free while microsoft still makes money from minecraft
I really want the announcer to say it incredulously so it sounds like "Steve?" And seriously, the whole gag with Smash is unexpected worlds colliding. That gave us crazy fun like seeing Duck Hunt chasing Cloud around Dr. Wily's Castle, or the Wii Fit Trainer stretching with Sonic the Hedgehog inside of a Game & Watch.
"Steve?" would be funny, sadly they kinda stopped doing that so seems unlikely. I think Luigi is the only one who comes close. He COULD say it for Zombie or Enderman though since they're creepy and unsettling, would make sense.
"The kids who grew up playing Minecraft are in their 20s now." Dang, I actually turn 20 tomorrow. I remember playing it for the first time on xbox 360 back in 2011. Those were simpler times
Max is my spirit animal; Getting angry over something that doesn’t affect me is a waste of energy. I love that Steve is in the game, even though he is hard as balls to play. And yet I tried them and now I main sephiroth and as for the others it’s “Meh more variety in the meat I chop.” It’s just too much energy to get mad over it when I can watch videos of people loosing their minds with joy over these characters getting in.

Im one of the people that are sooooo happy Steve is in, I always wanted him in and thought he would fit nicely. The thing I don’t get is that he is the 2nd character of the fighter pass! We still have 4 characters left!!! There’s still so many chances for people to get the characters they want, and he’s not even out yet! I’m happy that you got the character you wanted! Myself I’m not too excited for Steve but I’m glad there are people who are going to enjoy him. I know the stage is going to be awesome too. But I agree with you. We still have 4 characters left and with Steve getting in, this opens the door for so many other characters. Everyone just needs to calm down a bit and let others enjoy themselves. Also, I’ve still got my fingers crossed for Shantae 😁
I think the whole “it’s for kids” thing is a bit weird. 90% of the characters come from kids games. Because he doesn’t have a personal connection to it, it’s for kids while all the other kids characters he experiences as a kid aren’t
Probably not. People who got this mad over Steve (like the guy in the clip max showed) probably either don't have a wife and kids, or their wife took the kids and left.
I don't mind steve in smash. After the initial disappointment you stop and realize that this character means a lot to others even though it means Jack to you or me. In a way I find it cute that people spanning many ages get to play with their childhood icons and you can't really get mad at that.
I will say I was incredibly disappointed. I watched the reveal live with my brother and remember just going "really? What a waste." But like you said, I thought about how people reacted to some of my favorites additions, Joker, Terry, Hero and yes, even Byleth, and realize not every character is gonna please everyone. So while I'll be skipping Steve because I don't care, I guess I'm happy for those who do like him.
I'm with you man. I'm a casual minecraft player but I was so hyped about him being in it because I know this means so much to so many other people. Im a persona fan and I lost my mind at joker being included. So I can understand the emotional hold these characters can have. Just let people enjoy stuff
But i can because its what i do i can get mad at this...no matter what people are mad at this....some very crazy then others...i just hope sakurai dose not get stressed from this...
So, a different perspective. (Literally, this isn't meant to be an argument, but a peaceful discussion) Max you said that Sakurai was a bit toned down for Minecraft. I actually disagree. As a BIG Minecraft fan, the announcement trailer was FILLED with genuine love and passion for the game. He showed images of his minecraft world, and it didn't look like anything I'd seen before. Which in turn, carries weight, because old, storied, single-player worlds like his ALWAYS have that "Nothing you've seen before" quality about them, because they're a person's private world, and in that way a reflection of them as a person, where the only rules they have to obey are the game's, and their own. The more Sakurai talked about how "Difficult" it was to get him in, the more I saw how jarring Steve looks in smash, the more I realized, this was a man who had played a LOT of Minecraft. Minecraft is, well, many things. But the way he (and I) play the game, make the game a VERY, VERY relaxing game. Like he said, none of the original music from minecraft could make it into smash, because NONE of them could become energetic and "Smash" enough without betraying the original music. I think he might've been calm, but I don't think Sakurai was any LESS excited to bring us Steve than he was Terry Boggart. (At the end) Ah, I really do love your content Max. I suppose I'm in the same boat as you, I understand the history and gravity games I don't like have. Heck, I don't like fighting games, my reaction time sucks, and therefore they're a lot harder on me than most of the fighting game vets around here. No, it was not. In your mental cannon it was because you are a fan of the series. There are many people pissed off about stebe but it is not seen as much because fans like you keep posting everywhere about how good Minecraft is
@@Yokai_Yuri @Sasaki He obviously said that he would've said no if he couldn't have done it, and of course with the showcase video you can see his enthusiasm towards it. I would say that the main reason people see him as down beat and such is likely due to the fact he was in quarantine at the time of producing the character.
This is the right take away. Smash is about the love of video games. I have never even thought about buying Minecraft to play, but I am happy as hell that people are getting a character they want in Smash, and Steve looks really fun to play as. I am a huge JRPG fan, so just getting Cloud and Joker alone is beyond crazy to me.
@@Yokai_Yuri oh yes, the mindless hate because their favorite rep didn't get in before Steve, yeah, I trust them... As much as I trust a toaster close to a bathtub

Well it isn't about just logically adding a character, People get pissed over the fact that it's the characters they hate the most from a game they don't like or just don't like the kind of character, I mean how would you feel if a character you don't like or even really hate would be in your fav game like smash? @@leonduncan3327 I wouldn't care because I can just not pick the character. It really isn't a big deal and I'd say caring that much about a single character in a huge roster would be what makes someone a weirdo.
My 10 year old son, a HUGE Smash and Minecraft fan, absolutely flipped when he saw the trailer. I was happy for him. We gotta get em while they are young!
"The kids who grew up playing minecraft are in their 20s rn" Yep indeed. I grew up playing Minecraft in middle school at 13, I'm 22 and graduating college next year lol To me, Minecraft is super special, it's my generation's (early gen Z) equivalent of what honestly OG Super Mario was for Gen X'ers. I loved your insight into how Minecraft affected your career because to me, it was pretty much always something cool and exciting but from your perspective, it felt like Cars 3, the new stuff is coming in and your hobbies are being phased out. I wonder what will be the next thing to replace Minecraft. I hope Minecraft continues to be popular for the next generation but if that doesn't happen, I'll remember you :) I kinda feel that way when I see new popular Minecraft youtubers play it like Dream because it's just not the same. Their PVP style is effective but really shock and awe and something about it feels foreign to me. I prefer to just watch the OG Minecraft youtubers like Mumbo and CaptainSparklez. Something nice knowing those guys are wiser in a way. BTW, I think you might love playing on Minecraft PVP and bedwar servers. The fights are quite intense. Just for your own sake, when you feel like it. Well, now I guess I gotta pay tribute and start playing some Street Fighter like I did in elementary lol
I really like how genuine Max is, is kinda refreshing, the same with Simmons, Vinny and Kenny, understanble because they are "outsiders adults" in a a normal**g internet era. Also, about the Terry thing......eh, people are different, my little brother was screaming powah geisah when Terry appeared in smash, and was really happy with Steve being in
Damn how old is your brother that’s cute that’d he be so hyped for terry and kinda reassuring to see anyone can be happy with certain characters however old
7:55 And that, right there, Max, as a long-time lover and player of Smash Bros, is what I can't stand, refuse to tolerate or even accept about the Smash Community. The level of entitlement and ridiculous attitudes about this game series is downright sickening. They need to lighten up, seriously. And stop being abusive jerks, too. With all the crap that went down this summer, "Daddy Sakurai" ought to have pulled up shop and left them with nothing more. But he's too good a guy for that. They clearly don't deserve him, or whatever they want in regards to the game. But, hey, that's just my opinion..
I just love how a lot of people said that a character from Minecraft, a ten year old franchise that sold more than any other game in this generation combined, is played by 100.000+ gamers today, keeps selling a ton to the point that It was the reason why PSVita survided in Japan until last year, is used in classroom as a teaching tool, this franchise is not good enough for smash.
@@BombShockGaming Brother, with all due respect, if bad/terrible/horrible character design was used as a rule to cut characters/assist trophies from smash, half of the roster could be cut.
Blue Viper facts bro, people act like the conversation was Steve or (insert character) when the actual conversation was Steve or no Steve. On top of that, Sakurai and Nintendo could have easily ended with byleth and not have added 6 more characters.
“You’re an eighteen to twenty one year old” holy shit, it feels like 3 years ago I was logging onto Minecraft for the first time with my friends. That was sixth grade. I’m a college student now...
Great retrospective, Max. I can completely understand where you're coming from, and I agree with your stance. Personally, I did grow up with Minecraft and I'm 20 now, and I am beyond stoked for Steve, but I can also understand why some others are apprehensive about his addition. I think you summed it very well by explaining how multiple generations have different representations of their childhood in terms of characters, and like how Megaman is your symbolism for childhood, I would say Steve is like that for me. Great video again, I think you have the right mindset.
I constantly go back to your Terry Smash reactions because even though I didn’t grow up with him, the happiness is contagious. And then following that, I got a character I really wanted (yes I actually wanted Byleth. Hate on me lol)
Smash is a sort of "bastion" of gaming as a whole, And by minecraft being included is basically that same "bastion" qualifying it as a legitimate part of gaming. Im with Max, i haven't actually touched minecraft, but i approve of it in smash... But i kinda understand the gatekeeping going on. Because if candy crush or clash of clans got into smash id throw a fit. Because for me, those aren't "legitimate" parts of gaming. Right or wrong? I don't know.
Theologamer I agree about the mobile games and Minecraft is such an important and iconic piece of gaming history I’m surprised people are so angry and shocked it was included
How people would feel if Fortnite was added into the game (which is entirely possible now) is how I feel about Steve. I love Minecraft but Steve wasn't a character. He was a mechanic means to an end.
@@hasthehighground8560 I personally feel the same about Mine craft as I do the mobile games. I guess I need to see the moveset reveal. Maybe I'll change my mind. So for the people who don't understand the annoyance with Steve. How many of you would be happy with flappy bird?
Can always count on you to be a good voice of reason in the fighting game community. I’m 18, and Minecraft was a game I grew up with along with a lot of my friends. Many of my fondest memories with friends were playing Minecraft and smash bros. That being said, I didn’t grow up with a lot of the games being represented in smash that have been chosen as dlc or new additions, but that hasn’t stopped me from realizing the importance it’s had to the older smash fans who may have grown up with those same memories. I’m fact, it’s sometimes even led to me learning about those games (especially through channels like your own), and having a newfound appreciation for their inclusion. King of fighters was a series I hadn’t even seen before, but seeing the reaction of people like you and especially how passionate Sakurai was about it, made me enjoy his inclusion. At the end of the day too, what I really care about is how fun the characters are to play. Some of my mains are from games I’ve never even touched, but it doesn’t matter since I enjoy smash bros and enjoy their inclusion. It’s astounding to me that with new character reveals, people want to say “smash is a game hall of fame” when it’s a character they think is undeserving, but when Steve is revealed, they say “well it’s dumb he’s for kids”. Let every generation enjoy smash. Let kids discover games you grew up with in smash, and let the younger generations feel the same joy you felt when some of your favorite characters and memories were immortalized with their inclusions in the game. But at the end of the day, don’t try to tear down Sakurai when he includes a character you don’t know or have a fondness for, and realize for some people, this is their character that they most wanted. You don’t have to like the character, you don’t have to go try their game, just give them a shot in smash. Keep enjoying smash and the games that you grew up with that are represented in it.
I honestly think Steve is a somewhat interesting character. All of the different systems that are seemingly playing into his gameplay, like the crafting, various items/weapons and all of the different blocks and their multiple uses. So much could spice up the gameplay. I'm shocked people dislike this so much.
I love Minecraft. I have hours upon hours in it and been playing it since Beta. But it doesn't fit smash in my mind. He's so boring as a character. No personality, his design is awful, and he's almost uncanny to the point where it's kinda creepy. And before anyone says "but game and watch or Rob". They have a lot more character and personality and Steve is much more robotic and cold than ROB. I think a good smash character is more than the mechanics they bring but their personality. They could add a trash can to the game and he would find a way to give him a good move set. Doesn't mean it's interesting or neat. But it's whatever, we got 3 more to go (we know one is 100% a pokemon). Kinda wish they did them in pairs or something so it's less of a let down.
Melan Choly Bro, This makes no sense. Smash is all about sticking to the source material in games. And the thing is if they can create an moveset for a real life video game toy then why can’t steve join in with an actual background for fighting
@@boiz9552 Because people will piss and moan about anything. If their favorite character doesn't get in then they'll shit on it and everyone who supports it but if their favorite character DOES get in then they'll shit on anyone who doesn't like it.

Facts. His “advice” is almost undeniable fact. While yes, not everyone likes or wanted Steve, this does mean so much to so many people. Just because it made somebody else happy, doesn’t mean you gotta act like a baby about it. I’m personally not a fan of Minecraft, but I’m a final fantasy fan. I have my character, cloud, but the people on the side who isn’t happy is acting way more ridiculous than with other characters. It’s like watching a group of people creating the most toxic conspiracy theories ever made.

This was Banjo for me. I'm a teacher and my students play smash. When Banjo got revealed last year, none of them knew who he was but it was awesome for me. Now they're really hyped about Steve and its awesome to see them happy
It’s sad how a character like Banjo got butchered by Microsoft
True. Your comment is very underrated
Also I think it’s dumb they’re getting mad because they are getting mad over a character in a game which most people think of as a children’s game as well

Yes i agree fully and feel the same^
Smash is honestly all about having fun with characters that come from your favorite games. It wasn't meant to be taken so competitively and seriously to the point that people are actually mad about characters being added.
I was a bit salty at first when I heard it, but I kinda came to the same conclusion that Max did about it.

@@MoojinBoi

They did me a solid when they gave me Ridley. After that I was always grateful with whatever characters got in. I have never played minecraft but its such a weird pick that it made me happy because of how random it is. Smash is for good boys and girls who eat their vegetables and go to bed on time so I don't think Morrigan is possible, as awesome as she'd be.
This is a good mentality to have. Good for you
Morrigan would be so sick but she's way too lewd for Smash lol. It's harder to censor her than it is to censor someone like Bayonetta, although she would be cool.
But I sub to this channel, because I know the value that fighting games have, I know their history, and their influence, and their moments of shaking the rest of gaming, and I know this channel, as always, you will have respectful, and impassioned content about most things you love, and even respectful discourse at the things you aren't into.
No, it was not. In your mental cannon it was because you are a fan of the series. There are many people pissed off about stebe but it is not seen as much because fans like you keep posting everywhere about how good Minecraft is
It's a combination of being fairly down-beat while simultaneously stating he was forced to do it.
I got my dream character in Banjo. You just get greedy and want all of your dream characters. I am okay with other people getting Steve as their dream character too. I selfishly want Ryu Hayabusa, and Dante and Crash, but Smash has done more than enough to blow my mind.
Ryu hayabusa, dante, and Crash are all such good fucking picks. Really hope they all get in.
Who's the "You"?
Aaaah... Ryu Hayabusa... My fav character in all gaming history... I would love to play him in Smash fosho ;w;
That's fair. I mean pretty solid already and anything else does feel like it's scraping the bottom of the barrel.
The fighter pass isn’t even done people are so quick to get angry
Smash fans pissed and crying about a new character?
Wow. Who would've thought
Javier Hernández I want to main Steve just to piss off those who were raging about him 😂
KiyokaMakibi Imagine if Steve turns out to be op lmao, the haters are going to have a mental breakdown
Well it isn't about just logically adding a character, People get pissed over the fact that it's the characters they hate the most from a game they don't like or just don't like the kind of character, I mean how would you feel if a character you don't like or even really hate would be in your fav game like smash? If you're just fine with everything then you're kind of a weirdo since everyone has their own tastes
The fgc does the same thing... But not as well Smash players
You kidnapped a ten year old for there joy of Minecraft and smash Bros yo where at 😂
"The kids who grew up playing minecraft are in their 20s rn"
Yep indeed. I grew up playing Minecraft in middle school at 13, I'm 22 and graduating college next year lol
To me, Minecraft is super special, it's my generation's (early gen Z) equivalent of what honestly OG Super Mario was for Gen X'ers.
I loved your insight into how Minecraft affected your career because to me, it was pretty much always something cool and exciting but from your perspective, it felt like Cars 3, the new stuff is coming in and your hobbies are being phased out. I wonder what will be the next thing to replace Minecraft. I hope Minecraft continues to be popular for the next generation but if that doesn't happen, I'll remember you :)
I kinda feel that way when I see new popular Minecraft youtubers play it like Dream because it's just not the same.
Also, about the Terry thing......eh, people are different, my little brother was screaming powah geisah when Terry appeared in smash, and was really happy with Steve being in
Damn how old is your brother that’s cute that’d he be so hyped for terry and kinda reassuring to see anyone can be happy with certain characters however old
@@cronasan6931 he's 8
EzeGengar wow that’s really cool I would’ve never imagined he’d known about Terry
Wait, for real? The PSVita survived because of “Minecraft”?

Imagine getting angry over an optional dlc character that’s NUMBER 2 OUT OF 6 in the pass and acting like he’s the final character.
Blue Viper facts bro, people act like the conversation was Steve or (insert character) when the actual conversation was Steve or no Steve. On top of that, Sakurai and Nintendo could have easily ended with byleth and not have added 6 more characters.
@@blueviper64 if he had been the last character, it still would have been an incredible thing
One of the many symptoms of the terminally online.

“If i’m going to make a reaction of something, it’s going to be how actually feel, and how I should feel.”
Max top tier.
Love the fade-in intros, Max. They really suit you.
You're not alone, rest assured c:
Byleth fans may be the minority but we still exist.
Byleth was an incredibly hype addition for me, haters be damned. Unique too.
Just here to show my support! We do exist! Almost couldn't breathe when he/she was announced.
I was happy for Byleth too
Smash is a sort of "bastion" of gaming as a whole,
And by minecraft being included is basically that same "bastion" qualifying it as a legitimate part of gaming.
Everything is part of gaming though. So they are
Assassin199410 mobile games are just designed to be time wasters and to sell ads, nothing more
How people would feel if Fortnite was added into the game (which is entirely possible now) is how I feel about Steve.
Ain't gonna lie that sounds kinda trash
@Supreme Person We got a fire emblem character, nintendo picked this set, and it's underwhelming and dissapointing enough to be true.
Melan Choly
Bro, This makes no sense.
