Adirondack chairs are really the pinnacle of "sittin on the deck relaxing" chair design, and adding a footrest like this one takes that already comfy recline to the next level. The fact that these are stowable are even better.
I purchased your templates, and just finished building two chairs with the foot rests. They turned out perfect. Total build time for me was about 30 hours for the two chairs. Thanks for making and selling the templates.
Carson O'Keeffe I can tell you that I live in central Ohio and finding Clear End Grain Western Red Cedar is not easy here. One of the only lumber yards that would order it for me wants $10.10 per lineal foot. That’s over $300 per chair just for the wood. Yikes, I still might make them if I can find a better price.
@@MrCarnutbill67 the materials (including wood, finish, and hardware) when using clear WRC around me is about $250. There are definitely cheaper alternatives of wood, STK cedar is still good (you just have to avoid any larger knots when you lay out the pieces), Cypress is great, White oak, and even pine has longevity longer then most hardwoods. Just make sure you seal up the bottom of the feet really good because that's what's most susceptible to rot.
@@JackmanWorks Thanks, I was digging through the comments hoping for alternative material suggestions and I lucked out getting it from the man himself! I'll be buying the physical template as I'll be making at least 6, if not 8-10 of these to go around our new fire pit and decks.
Can I ask you a question- something I’m unclear about, cause I’m in the process of building these now: if I’m doing chairs with footrests, are all of the carriage bolts 2 inch rather than 2.5? Looks like all the 2.5” get replaced by countersunk 2”. Thanks.
Ok, I just have to say I've been watching a lot of Adirondack chair videos lately and at first I thought your stern look was going to make me not want to watch your video, haha and then I saw the foot rest and well I had to keep watching...you had me "cracking up", your edits and double acting (if you will) was so funny! Thanks for taking the time to just have fun with this video. I'm hoping do some woodworking projects on my own and not have to bug my husband for help too much, haha and I my goal is two Adirondacks chairs! (and of course after seeing your video, they will need foot rests too!)
Great build. I bought your plans and built one myself. Very expensive in the UK to use the same wood that you do, so I looked around for an alternative. I built mine out of radiata pine thermowood which retains the lightness and the thermowood treatment improves the durability. Win win with resistance to decay, no chemicals, light weight and low priced. Thanks again for your plans and help.
Paul, you never cease to amaze me man. I have your Adirondack plans, but this takes it to a whole new level. Thanks for the walk-through and for keeping it so entertaining. Thank you brother.
Absolutely loved the router upside down in vice trick. I have been planning to make a router table for over a year and have projects pending that **couldn't be done** without a table. Well now they can be.
Cor, these are gorgeous. We have just sent for the plans (because we are in the UK) and my hubby is going to make me one for our 45th wedding anniversary. Hopefully he'll make himself one too!
The RUclipss won't be satisfied with just hand tools. You need to build your own tools, then build the chair. But you'll need tools to build the hand tools, first. Wait... Awesome job - love the work AND the editing!!
Thanks to you and your other Adirondack chair video, I just completed making four chairs of my own. Thanks for doing what you do And bringing us on your journey
great plans, straightforward enough for a newbe woodworker with basic skills and tools like myself. Built two chairs out of iroko wood. turned out great! recommend the use of cushions for increased comfort though.
I built mine out of Redwood about 2 in.³ thick so I don't have to mess around with staining and all that. I used your templates although I had to modify them a little bit. They are very comfortable. You guys did a good job on your design now everybody I know wants me to build him one.
This is exactly what I was looking for. You're amazing. So amazing I realized I'd watched the video with my mouth hanging open. And you're funny to boot! Thank you.
These are fantastic plans and great chairs, well worth the money. Thank you for making such easy to follow, detailed plans. I just paid $15 for some plans from another guy and there was no step by step instructions, no printout for the pieces, etc. Just pictures of the chair from different angles and the pieces laid out on the grid for you to draw out yourself. Then, he wants you to pay $20 to have the template mailed out to you. Also, I bought these plans from Jackman Works a few years ago and when he updates the plans, he automatically sends me those updates. I can't say enough good things about these chairs!
Thank you Mr. The Jackman, Just purchased your templates. I am just getting started into woodworking, I have just recently built a pretty sweet sectional sofa for our patio with a "coffee/beer" table. I enjoyed it so much I might make this a new hobby, love making and building things, but most of my stuff has always been in electronics. I plan on making 4-6 of these chairs for the fire pit. Great video editing by the way! Keep your videos going! Much love from South Carolina.
This is really cool! I love lounging outside with some tea in the summer, watching the kids Roll by. However I'm surprised this wasn't 40 feet tall! Fantastic build though! It's always a blast to watch your videos!
I finished my chair today. It is so comfortable and several people want to buy one of them. A friend gave me the plans, so i just bought a set of plans and looking forward to building several and selling.
I just bought your plans for these and I am super stoked to start these chairs. Unfortunately cedar is hard to come by now and if you do find it people are price gouging so I’m doing this with pressure treated because oddly enough it’s cheaper than some common pine boards in my neck of the woods. Once cedar comes down I’ll replace the ones pressure treated ones. Thank you again!
Looking at the miter saw before making all the cuts with a speed square was subtle but hilarious. Thanks for all the clever tricks - i.e. router in a vice = router table.
I laughed myself stupid when you were pulling that thing across the table saw. All I could do was laugh and say "what an asshole!" Great video and an awesome project.
@@ptaylor4923 Yeah...I was thinking, this is a guy I could hang out with, but I would often be either laughing, rolling my eyes, or punching him in the chest or arm for being the "obnoxious friend".
I built a Adirondack chair out of skies a few years ago, I found a cheap one out for trash, it was made out of 1/2". So I stripped it down and used it for templates , I used all 2x4s and skies for the planks. I really want to make some out of hockey sticks next!
Thanks for the templates, brought the Adirondack chair one bout a year ago, make quite a few to date and sold them, just brought the footrest template keen to give it ago, it only gets better Thanks from NZ

Wow! What a beautiful sexy Adirondack Chair! That Epoxy finish is just fabulous! Love the footrest options. Love your hilarious editing. Just always love your creations and how you put them together and bring us along for the fun and funny and enlighting ride. Peace and Good Fortune to you and your family!
Wow, hats a great idea with the footrest. However I must correct you on one small detail Paul. Those are Muskoka chairs, not Adirondack chairs. Ask any of your Canadian friends from Ontario. Whenever I build a Muskoka chair, I cut a hole 2-1/2" round into the arm right where it intersects with the front leg . I then proceed to notch the leg and its perpendicular brace to a total depth of about 3". That includes the hole in the arm rest. Cleaned up, protected from the elements, that sir is a built in drink holder. 🍺 That's the Canadian way. 🇨🇦 Keep making the awesome videos dude, much love and respect from The Great White North!!
Lol, nothing. Maybe just patriotism of ones country. The Muskoka area is a popular summer destination for Ontario residents, mostly from Toronto and the surrounding region, as a place to own, or rent a summer cottage.
Great show off effort and not bad wood working either. LoL I made a pallet version of this design. It is heavy so I added some flip out wheels and even made it adjustable. With self levelling arms with pockets. So hah yours is still better.
Reminded me of the old Billy maze Comercials... " but wait there's more" love your videos awesome editing and great content! One of the best makers out there!

Love it!
I order a set of templates and want to also get the epoxy and finish. How much would you recommend getting for 2 chairs?
The coupon expired. Also, how much of each Total Boat product per chair? I'm trying to factor in cost of the finish.
I love this build! What’s your cost in material? and what would you sell this assembled chair for?
What size of containers did you purchase for one chair? On the website it gives several options. Thank you.
When you slid the foot-rest out at the beginning of the video, my jaw dropped and a satisfied smile crept across my face. That is a very cool design!
