I own a F30, F10, E90, and E39. I recently did valve covers on my F30 and E39. The difference on working on a M54 and a N20 was night and day. I think choosing one of these older BMWs for cheap is a good deal, especially for people who are wanting to get their hands dirty.
ive had a broad spectrum of E series vehicles and currently have an f10 the f10 with the n52 while reliable will be a headache whenever something eventually happens.
E39 540i is like the bigger more lux version, and its a great driving car. at 6'2 I dont like how I fit into an E46, but I love how I fit into my E39. Might just be a preference thing tho! Plus V8 power is amazing
The E90 is 100% a better buy. The E46 isn't cheap anymore, and after subframe reinforcement, you may as well have bought an E90. It's a better chassis and makes more power. The "sub 2k" E46 is almost always a bad car. You got lucky.
E90s are dope, and arguably are a better car. But I still prefer the e46. It’s ever so slightly more ‘raw’, and honestly the e90 styling doesn’t do it for me. They’re also not exactly cheap where I live. Even the real sad ones are around $3500. I’ve worked on a lot of e90/e92s and they’re slightly more annoying to work on, and parts are a little more expensive. Was hoping to target the video to someone who wants to get a cheap project car, but can’t ball out all at once. Yes you could save up, but I feel like starting with something that needs love, and making it better or building what you want is a rewarding experience. I do agree though, a lot of sub 2k e46s aren’t worth buying. But over the past year or so I’ve picked up 7 and aside from 1 they have all been peaches. They’re out there, just gotta be quick on marketplace. Cheers @Datboi_Mo
@@cristiszocs I run both! E46 320i (1999, 6cil NA, 5spd) E46 320D (2003, 4cil turbodiesel, 5spd manual) E91 320D (2011, 4cil turbodiesel, 6spd manual) Homie who made the original post is right. Dailied my 320D for the past 7 years, drove both my kids from hospital after being born home.. But it took TLC, new engine, endless maintenance and replacing parts, … But now the ideal daily really is the E91 with E46s taking the spots of backup/fun car.
There is also a 316i, 318i, 320i on the european market, then there's also a compact e46 but it's not really popular anywhere lol, we also have diesel versions. 320D, 325D, 330D etc.
NB Mx5s are pretty cheap in germany (~3k you get a decent one) but i can't fit in one since my knees hit the steering wheel and when i steered I was literally in pain (drove a friend one and "in pain" it hurt a little) E46s (depending on the engine, facelift or not and if they got tüv) you can get for the same money and you can use them for so much more situations than a miata
sedan, coupe, no-roofie, wagon you don't have compacts? xD In Poland we call them by our beverage - Kompot (Com-pot/like Com-pact) compacts in stock, they didn't had 2.5 but any used with history have it swaped lol
@@btk_vinnywhy do you not think so? I feel like for a cheap tuner car they are good. You can pick up a barely running si for 2k. My car has 1k in motor work and running 350hp.
They are kinda expensive for what they are I have one it’s super reliable I love it I’ve ran it on .5 quarts of oil and it somehow didn’t die after I took it to redline a couple times. They are really boring though if they are stock and na 4 banger slow
bro u know literally nothing about history of those cars they had also 320 models with 2 types of engines also 316i 318i also they had 5 different build typek 4 u mentioned and compact co ... give full info or no info for later bro :3

I recently picked up a running e46 for 600 and I think it was a great deal
SN95 and New Edge mustangs
Another banger video, I share the same affliction of to many cars
Love it ❤

E90 is harder to work on however. Changing the headlight bulbs fucking blowwwws for example. Still fun, but it’s something to keep in mind.

yea but the e46 has the m54, not the n series motor, so e46 is always on top and na is my preference
