Uhh so the whole haircut thing I think is a reference to the biblical story of Samson, where he was tricked by a lady named Delilah into letting her cut his hair, removing his incredible strength. So not only does the first episode of this show have magic curses, robot clones, and alchemy, it ALSO has biblical inspiration.

Donkey Kong is the only genuine guy and not racist. He never uses baboon as an insult, if I recall correctly he never insults any of the Kongs.

I mean, the orangutans have it worse in the games, being 99% rejects of the Kong family, with one Lanky exception. Their even called Manky Kongs, "manky" being British slang for "dirty" or "rotten".
I never noticed this until now, but the models for the show aren't one sold piece, they're all composed of different parts. Which means that they couldn't properly assign weights or lattices to the joints when rigging the model to the skeleton, so instead made each part separate then attached them to the skeleton bones. Combining that (amature) technique with motion capture is why the animation looks so weird.
I honestly didn't think any more tearing apart of this show was possible.

a bit late for a response but the technology used for making the donkey kong show is actually way ahead of its time and have quite the fascinating history that explain a lot of things like why the animation look so particuliar or why the lips sync is so bad

Story time:
As a kid growing up and to this day, DKC was my favorite video game, the trilogy and 64. So for my fifth birthday party, my mom and dad threw me a DKC themed birthday. I got Donkey Kong and the legend of the Crystal Coconut as a gift, the like hour long special. I watched it every night to fall asleep until I was 12. And still absolutely love it, even with the cringe lmao.

fearanger1 Apparently Fox just screwed it all up. They aired episodes out of order (They began with Episode 2 and didn't show episode 1 til much later). I think they also kept changing the time it aired on also. I think the show's quality, but it didn't get the viewers so Fox pulled it... Despite it being their fault it didn't get the viewers.

Apparently, this was a motion capture show and was originally recorded in French. That might explain the awkward animation and weird lip-synch. Still doesn't save the show though.
Ultimate Spoopynator Motion capture is notorious for giving characters a weightless and awkward feel, and considering that this was the mid-90's, the technology was much weaker back then. Are you familiar with motion capture?

Actually, there's an explanation as to why DKC has such floaty animation. They used motion capture to animate the 3D models. I shouldn't have to explain what that is.
It's why that horrible CGI TMNT series got cancelled, too (since motion capture suits are very expensive, and were far more expensive at the time).
The lip synching is off because, big shock, like Sonic Underground, this is a European cartoon. The show was originally French. Interestingly, it was well received in Canada and Japan.

You know, having a song every episode can actually work for some things. Looking back on this, and comparing it to what we have now, Helluva Boss pulls it off really well. One episode in particular has a really heartfelt and sweet song that stuck with me. So it can work, its just gotta be done well!

That show is my guilty pleasure! Here in Germany, one really obscure satellite broadcaster actually showed the series years later still.

The singing, at least for DK is still pretty good.
That part in the "how to be a bad guy" song has one part that sounds decent and catchy, but the rest of the song sucks.
They're so damn cheesy but I can't help but enjoy them. It's a guilty pleasure, as this whole show is, along with the Mario cartoons.
