Yeah，you are right，kind of like "让" if too fast but actually he is saying"shang 上" because 晚上=night otherwise if he is saying 让， only left 晚wǎn there doesn't work

It's like "x" sound which I can definitely hear pronounced differently. Some say it as clear and soft "s", and some say it much closer to soft "sh". In my native language I can also hear that effect.
Maybe the r you're hearing is him saying wang but like 'wangr'? I know when native speakers are using some words they're not exactly standard. He might also be speaking with a Beijing accent where they like to use 'er' in their sentences

To answer your question: I myself need a lot of revision of the same level , to get good at it. To memorise it and have fluency with it. If I learn every time some other group of words, it will never become consolidated . This is why I suggest that videos are grouped per levels, with material that is inside that level, as it is given by HSK new levels, by which learners are learning. It is very very hard to remember, because we have to memorise both the symbols and the sound of words. HSK1 has 300 of symbols plus 500 of words. I need to practice that. If I each time see some hundreds of other symbols , I will never consolidate any level. I keep saying that to chinese teachers, and it seams no one gets my point?
For my RUclips Channel some videos are make to explain the real Chinese in a TV series.It's real Chinese in conversations so it's hard to just fix in a rang of HSK1 or HSK2 or any level. I think if you want to repeat the same words of HSK, to use an app or flash cards is a good idea.

In China basically we use these apps to watch TV series--1: 爱奇艺ài qí yì 2: 腾讯视频 téng xùn shì pín 3: 优酷视频 yōu kù shì pín. But I think for some TV series, you can find just on RUclips.
