    I've said it before and I'll say it again: the narrative quality of these channels (this one and the History of the Earth) is what sets them apart from the usual science documentary, and what makes them so enthralling. It's the literary devices put into play - and of course, our admiration for nature - that keep us riveted to our seats, following the narrative closely. Please keep it up!

I sure love thinking about this stuff. To me, these great videos should start the conversation, not represent the finality and totality of it. There's a lot we don't know, and ordinary people have come up with extraordinary ideas before! 🙂

    • @jaber4life
      @jaber4life 11 месяцев назад

      Sadly I find a very, very small minority of people have any interest in life’s most bizarre and difficult questions. The question of why we exist is maddening and we likely will never have answers as mortals
      We can meditate and feel but we cannot understand

    • @beenaplumber8379
      @beenaplumber8379 11 месяцев назад

      @@jaber4life Oh I think we're pretty good at understanding. I think we don't, and maybe can't, understand why we exist (does there have to be a why?) or the full nature of our existence, but we know we exist from first principles. (I think, therefore I am.) We spread out from there to see how well our observations and experiences match our thoughts and predictions. We assume the human forms around us also thing, and we act on that assumption. They offer useful ideas, and some useless ones. We build on each other's understandings. Before you know it we've finished the Human Genome Project, built the Internet, and put a pocket computer (phone) in every kid's pocket... in wealthier countries anyway.
      Science is never founded on complete understanding. "Why" isn't necessary. "That it works" suffices. Science is founded on our best understandings and imperfect conclusions, but it gives us something to work with, and we've done incredible things by that process. When we find we've got something wrong, science is self-correcting. That cannot be said of any other knowledge system.
      I think needing a reason for something as fundamental as existence is a human idea, maybe even a product of our language. Just because we can ask the question doesn't make it a meaningful question to ask. We exist. Why should the universe or anyone in it have to explain the obvious, THAT I exist?
      Why does the universe exist? Because it exists. In the beginning, at the instant of the big bang, there was no time or space before for the universe to exist in. Existence seems inevitable, as long as there's time and space to accommodate it. I'm not sure asking why is a valid question. How did it propagate? yeah, that I want to know, but why it's here?
      Cause and effect is fine, but asking why seems to go beyond cause and effect and into justification. That is certainly an entirely human concept, not something observed in nature, and not something we can impose on existence simply because we have a word for it. Those are my thoughts.

      1) there was no "before" the big bang; space and time came into being thereafter
      2) all of the elements (with the exceptions of Hydrogen, Helium and whichever elements on the periodic table were created in particle accelerators by smashing atomic nuclei together) were formed in the cores of stars during a process called stellar nucleosynthesis. The elements are then blasted across the universe when the stars in question go supernova

      Astronomers are notoriously bad at naming things. 😀

      They do this because it's convenient. Sadly, it goes on to be considered FACT even though it's nothing more than theory like evolution or the simple concentric circle vision of inner earth they teach our kids in school. We now know the earth is not made up of pretty circles of material and yet still they teach it this way. I'm still not sold on dark matter/dark energy and yet they talk of it as fact. Nor am I convinced we really understand gravity beyond mathematical concept. And what really bugs me is when they all speak in millions of years as if it's fact. What they don't tell you is that you have to make many ASSumptions, (i.e. fixed amount of carbon/remained constant) that WE CAN'T verify and is STILL speculation and yet, by consensus they all speak of it as FACT!!! Oh, general relativity breaks down, no worries, we'll add special MATH to fix it. Eeeeeeeeesh. Glad to see other thinkers out there Kenneth! Take care, Honest.

      @@honestarizona4301 So let me get this straight, the fact you are not sold on something means it can't be true? That's the problem with a lot of "internet thinkers". You can't understand something, therefore it must be wrong.
      By the way, you do know that Einstein published about his theory of special relativity BEFORE his theory about general relativity, right? So your statement that special relativity was created to fix general relativity is .. well.. false. And yet you state it as a fact.. ironic, isn't it?

Saying there's a beginning of time is like saying there was no life before you were born but your parents existed before you.
