Mediocre? First of all, if he's good enough for Bob James, enough said. Second, for being the CEO and president of the iconic Benedetto guitar company, he's tasteful and modest enough not to overplay.
100% disagree, his guitar playing was so tasteful and complimentary to the arrangement, his solo displayed his guitar prowess while keeping in context of the feel of the song. This man is a master of his instrument!
