Until I read about the landings at Tarawa in WWII, I never knew that Eddie Albert was a hero. His actions directly led to saving the lives of over 40 Marines. For this, he was awarded the Bronze Star.

I'm addicted to these Columbo clips on RUclips. Though I was a kid when these came out, I was old enough to have remembered that you could smoke everywhere you went, but I'm drawing a complete blank. Columbo had his cigar with him no matter where he went -- in restaurants, in people's homes without even asking, and here in a museum. Man, I sure don't miss those days.
You don't remember people smoking everywhere? I certainly do. Everywhere there were multiple stinky ashtrays for smokers to dump their trash into. Some people tried to send the "no smoking please" message by removing ashtrays, but then the ash just went into potted plants or leftover coffee cups or whatever else was convenient. That wasn't even the worst of it--I grew up in Mississippi, the buckle of the "just a pinch between your cheek and gum" belt. I'll take cigarette ashes over snuff spit any day.

Yes, they weren't going to interfere unless he made a false move. It's funny, but I recognize the grey-haired detective there to arrest him. He had a small part on a Mission: Impossible episode (original series). He didn't speak and was only on screen for a couple of minutes, but I still recognize him.

IMO, Lt. Columbo always expertly custom tailors his questions and mannerisms in getting to the absolute truth. Whereby, the witnesses and criminals alike, have no plausible explanations to the detectives subjective statements. Great episode and characters. Bravo.... 👮🔍🚓
I love the episode. Falk & Pleshette are all time favs. However, I saw her interviewed about this episode and she said she'd been looking forward to working with Peter and he was a complete jerk because of some dispute with the network. He kind of Marilyn Monroe'd the episode, not showing up on time, etc. She was still annoyed 40 years later. But adore them both.

Pleschette and Falk are about the same height, but she is looking up at the person she's talking to @1:54. A lookalike is playing Columbo for the shots from behind him.
Arrests were Gentlemanly in Yesteryear. Now it's a 3:AM Swat Raid for Unpaid Parking Tickets. And the Family Dog is Shot Immediately just for good measure.
TV shows like this were so slooooow paced! This scene goes on and on and on. No drum stings. No musical cues. And a low camera pointed at Columbia to make him look taller.
@@Ratchet2431 Most modern series assume that the audience has the attention span of a newborn gnat, so they chop up scenes into small pieces. It's annoying and weakens the impact. I appreciate it when a modern series or movie lets a scene breathe, unhurried and shown all in one uninterrupted flow.
The parts where it was not Peter Falk in this scene are glaring, and it's such a shame that his behaviour during the shooting of this episode was so frustrating for the cast and crew. It was a rare blip for the master that we all love, but, we're all human, and we all have our moments.

We could think of a few reasons why he decided to do it this way. One is for the heck of it, for personal satisfaction in doing so; another one could be showing the girl who the general really is.

Was there ever a Columbo episode where the villain's acting wasn't top notch as well? I can't think of any. You don't see that very often in a long running show reliant on guest stars, usually there's at least one or two episodes where the guest doesn't really cut it. I guess the producer or showrunner or whoever really knew what they were doing.
I've commented excessively on this episode, but I will make two valedictory points (unless the redoubtable Ms. Willett cries: "en garde" again): (1) Suzanne Pleshette was classy, funny and luminously beautiful. Yes, her character here was slightly irritating but that's not her fault. She was terrific on the Newhart show and she was a great Tonight Show guest. RIP angel. (2) Eddie Albert, born 1907 actually won the Silver Star. Forgive me if somebody else mentioned this, there are 19M comments. You can buy the whole series on DVD. My wife bought them for me on my birthday. I must watch an episode every week, had to limit myself. I prefer the older episodes.
They’re trying to get folks to subscribe to Peacock. They carry the whole series including the later episodes. I don’t enjoy the later ones as much, but there were some gems, especially one episode with Faye Dunaway.
I always enjoyed Suzanne Pleshette, but here she plays a naive, petulant, whiny sort of character. A couple of times you just want to smack her! Eddie Albert is, as always, excellent.

The Marine sentries are the worst bit of acting in any Columbo episode. 1 - uniforms rumpled 2 - Hair and sideburns. - 3 - Head on a swivel 4 - rocking back and forth on post.
The mondo Columbus episodes were too short and the mondo 1950s TVs were too small to hold more than a 10 minute show. They didn’t have Claw Technology. No harm no fowl. The proof is in the pudding.

Ok, I've been binge watching Columbo for a couple of weeks now. I've made it to season seven and I have yet to see a killer actually get handcuffed and read their Miranda rights. They usually just walk off with the cops all dignified.

They’re trying to get folks to subscribe to Peacock. They carry the whole series including the later episodes. I don’t enjoy the later ones as much, but there were some gems, especially one episode with Faye Dunaway.
I always enjoyed Suzanne Pleshette, but here she plays a naive, petulant, whiny sort of character. A couple of times you just want to smack her! Eddie Albert is, as always, excellent.
Suzanne Pleshette's last husband was Tom Poston. Now that seems like a strange coupling.

This episode annoys me, because why would they give the murderer the address and name of the only witness.
If memory serves, they didn’t. He found out by asking the boat rental guy, who had no idea there was anything nefarious
The mondo Columbus episodes were too short and the mondo 1950s TVs were too small to hold more than a 10 minute show.

Ok, I've been binge watching Columbo for a couple of weeks now. I've made it to season seven and I have yet to see a killer actually get handcuffed and read their Miranda rights. They usually just walk off with the cops all dignified.

To me this wasn't a great episode, it was too slow and plodding getting to the point. Before this episode I only knew of Eddie albert from the sitcom "Green Acres"
