- Can I tell you I need you, every single day of my life?
Dipping back into the Revolver era! I've always loved the Motown vibes from McCartney. Some excellent bass on this track.
For this cover, I listened VERY closely to isolations available on RUclips. I heard a buried rhythm track peeking out in those isolations, which I assume is John and George. To my ear, it sounds like George doubling the bass on a fuzzy lead guitar (probably the Casino, possibly the Tennessean), with John playing open chords on the quarter notes. I unearthed and brightened that rhythm track here, expanding it to the entire song. A little personal liberty, for the sake of mix completeness.
I also recreated the brass with Cinematic Studio Brass and panned the horns all over the soundscape. The ability to separate the brass into stereo (and the glorious result) tells me that "Revolver" really needs a remix! Hope Giles Martin comes through one day.
Very nice playing the Gretsch and Rickenbacker! Despite the potential historical anachronism, I insisted on using my new Country Gent. I love showing it off. I also dug out the old Rickenbacker 320B for John's rhythm. Love seeing them paired together.
Also note the '65-66 era drumhead! Courtesy of Russ Lease. Enjoy!

welp i've got good news for you
having heard the remix, all I can say is THANK YOU GILES. finally got the mix it deserved.
Great! the Rick 320 still There !
At least two standout Rickenbacker songs are on the way...
@@MichaelSokil
OK good. Now here's some people doing one of them instrumentally like you are so why not have a think about that.

This makes me so happy. Thank you. (and still love THAT RIC!)
Much obliged, William!
This sounds better than the final mix! I know there were some technical limitations, but always felt Geoff Emerick really let everyone down for this song. Norman Smith could have mixed this much better. The drums are buried and sound flabby (imagine if he had close-miked the snare like he did on Ballad of John and Yoko!), the guitars are almost nonexistent and all you hear is the bass and horns.
Not sure we should go ahead and start crapping on Emerick without knowing the whole story. I'm sure Paul had a hand in the brass being so overpowering. In fact, we kinda know he did as it's verified that, due to wanting the brass kinda crudely ADT'd by just shifting the time a smidge and putting it on a new track. Obviously this is a bit more important of a decision when you only have 4 track tape recorders to work with. They ended up having to mixdown the various tracks several times due to Paul wanting more overdubs, which degrades the original every time you do it ever so slightly. But it adds up. By the time recording was done, basically the entire rhythm track (actually quite literally the entirety of it) was on a single track, which, given that they had started recording the backing track on separate tapes by this point in their career, means it got mixed down at least 4 times. Given this, it's unsurprising that it sounds rather weak and it's not necessarily at all a fault in how it was recorded. In fact, I'd be shocked if Emerick inexplicably recorded the drums in a different way than he did for the rest of revolver, which obviously sounds totally fine on drums. And regarding guitars being almost nonexistent, that almost certainly has nothing to do with Emerick. George Martin was far more influential in mixing decision than Emerick at this stage. Much different process than engineering, where Emerick would have the final say.
And I'm certainly not coming at this from some Emerick fanboy perspective. I've long been annoyed by how he acted like he single handedly invented close miking brass with this song, which is just **complete** BS. But I also don't like taking shots at people who may not even be responsible for what they're being ranted against.
Norman Smith? You are out of your mind. Geoff Emerick not only made this song but the entire album as well as things to come. The Brass sounds the way it does on the album because there is Artificial Double Tracking on it.
@@horowizard You can still control the volume with ADT. Still doesn’t explain why the drums sound like a rubber band. It’s just a terrible mix in my opinion.
I was alone, I took a ride
I didn't know what I would find there
Another road where maybe I could see another kind of mind there
Ooh, then I suddenly see you
Ooh, did I tell you I need you
Every single day of my life
You didn't run, you didn't lie
You knew I wanted just to hold you
And had you gone you knew in time we'd meet again
For I had told you
Ooh, you were meant to be near me
Ooh, and I want you to hear me
Say we'll be together every day
Got to get you into my life
What can I do, what can I be
When I'm with you I want to stay there
If I'm true I'll never leave
And if I do I know the way there
Ooh, then I suddenly see you
Ooh, did I tell you I need you
Every single day of my life
Got to get you into my life
Got to get you into my life
I was alone, I took a ride
I didn't know what I would find there
Another road where maybe I could see another kind of mind there
Then suddenly I see you
Did I tell you I need you
Every single day?
It was too good! Huge fan from Brazil!
Thanks, Matheus!
Michael I love your version of this!
Thank you Michael!! Doug🎸
This was such a treat to watch, and I’m sure to play too!
Such a treat to play! Thanks for the comment!
Thank you again Michael. Your damn near the Best the Beatle's remakes. Man, Outstanding!!!!!!
Wonderful!
It’s such a cool rockabilly lick but it’s eluding me. 🙏
One of my favorites Mike! Thanks for the great cover! Keep them coming please 👍👏👏👏👏👏☺️
Aaaaaamazing!!!! And great to see you back on RUclips playing great Beatle's songs!
That´s incredible!!!! Awesome!!! Endless respect!!!
This is beyond amazing and near perfect
Like an energy shot through me. Beautiful!
Great!
love it!
I love this song, and I can play it too!
GREAT JUST GREAT SIR PAUL WOULD LOVE IT Yeh,Yeh,Yeh,
WELCOME BACK
Amazing!!! I was hoping to hear the hurried fuzz guitar in this .. I really wished they would’ve mixed it up on the album.
Great attention to detail at 1:04. I always noticed that bit but I wasn't sure if there was a guitar along with the horns!
Another job well done. Weren't George and John playing Casinos by this time? Agree with the other commenter that Dr. Robert would be a great song to do. Great guitar sounds in that song.
Yes, please see my comments. I took some liberties upon hearing the buried rhythm track, mostly just to show off my new Gretsch. It’s most likely both John and George were on their Casinos.
If you tabbed the guitar parts for this - I would certainly buy them off you - beautiful recreation of a great song !
Excellent! I enjoy seeing the different guitars as much as you enjoy playing them. This was never a favorite song when it first came out in 1966, probably because I preferred the guitar sound to the horns, which I always thought was over-emphasized in the final mix. But that doesn't matter now that i can watch you play it. Bravo. I don't suppose while you are on Revolver you are in the mood to play "Dr. Robert", are you? Not sure I have ever watched anyone do that one. Plenty of guitar there for us guitar freaks.
I think the Revolver mix isn't great! Too much panning. It's unfortunate because it dampens the power of a really great song. One of the selfish pleasures of these covers is that I get to control the mix! I loved putting this one together, which allowed me to center the bass, drums and tambourine while separating the horns and unearthing the guitars. It really sparkles with the benefit of a decent mix.
I do have a strong interest in covering all kinds of "Revolver" stuff. My plans are always subject to change, but right now I have two more early Beatles songs on my list, then 2 Pepper-era songs, then a likely return to "Revolver." I'm probably doing "And Your Bird Can SIng" before "Dr. Robert," but it's certainly on my list!
MEAN!
This is great lads, top performance, I sing a lot of Beatles songs and was wondering if I could stick my vocals on this, what do you think?
hey man really good cover it's amazing almost the exactly same sound ! I have a question, with which software do you edit you videos ?
Can you do the guitar isolated?
Proof they could've played it live.
I know it’s late but, it would be interesting if you also covered the Second (unnumbered) version of the song, the one released last September 2022
Whew! great.. Interesting.. never thought a Country gentleman and Hofner were on this one.. I guess they used all their stuff at any time if needed. I hear a little Tennessean is even on pepper. So.. the Casino ( i guess it's george) does the solo.. than doubled for a few bars? Solo always sounded like some tremelo.. or may leslie.. or adt on there.?
Great job, just a question, could George have used his strat?
McCartney had switched to a Rickenbacker by then.
Höfner in a Revolver song? I though Paul abandonated it in this album for the Rickenbacker...
the instruments here aren't authentic. I wanted to show off my new gretsch. wasn't going for accuracy!

Epic! What DAW do you use?
Michael, how are you playing the 5 chord short solo? You cut in to a close-up for it at 1:53, but are the Casino’s stings in standard (E) tuning for that insert?
What DAW do you use?
Sounds awesome! What strings do you use on your Höfner?
www.labella.com/products/760fhb2-beatle-bass-stainless-flats-39-96/
@@MichaelSokil I use the exact same strings on my Onyx Intruder violin bass.
What's going on with the end lick at 1:53? I hear 2 notes but don't see you playing the right 2 notes, that is, your fingering doesn't match what I'm hearing. Isn't the 2nd guitar supposed to be there before it comes in (visually) at 1:54-55??
This was just a stylistic choice for the video. Yes, two guitars are playing but I'm only showing one, at least for the beginning of that riff.
You got tabs for that lil epiphone solo?
@@marcusphelan57 oh than how did he get it to sound right?
@@isaiah.fabela (marcus was wrong) - soundcloud.com/michael-sokil/gytyiml-guitar
@@MichaelSokil but tabs tho
What is the chord at 1:27 (rhythm guitar)?
F with a G on top.
I meant the one right after. I assume it’s just B minor?
@@JesperSalama Yep, just B minor.
@@MichaelSokil Ah, thanks a lot. I figured so. This song is so fascinating, I always felt like the guitars were mixed very poorly. Hearing them brought to the front is just brilliant!
@@JesperSalama RIGHT? It sounds so alive with the guitars turned up! I love it.
1) The only person on YT who plays the end lick properly.
2) To all the complaints about this guy not playing the correct period-specific guitars/bass/whatevers, all I can say is,
Oh FFS!
Amazing! Thank you!
I must say though, I found the editing a bit disorienting, I think your videos will benefit from a slightly slower pace of cutting.
Appreciate the feedback!
i wanna see you play various pets etc.
Bass too low in mix, makes whole thing too thin
