Nestled at the foot of the Pirin Mountains and next to Pirin National Park, Bansko is considered the best ski resort in Bulgaria. With the magnificent mountain peaks of Vihren and Todorka as its backdrop, reliable snowfall from December to April and a combination of traditional and modern Hotels, it's one of Eastern Europe's best-skiing destinations.
This review will show you the essential things you need to know before heading to Bansko. We will share clever tips to help you make better decisions, save lift queue time and money, and have an enjoyable holiday in Bansko.
Bansko has 70km of piste, rising from town level at 936m to an altitude of 2600m, and with reliable snow cover between December and April. It has a relatively modern ski lift system that will get you anywhere you need. Bansko is a small ski resort that offers excellent value for money. It has eight blue runs, including two ski roads for those new to skiing. For more advanced skiers, it provides 8 red runs and the black Tomba run, named after the former World Cup alpine ski racer Alberto Tomba.
Half of Bansko’s runs are blue. For newbies, it’s best to start at the ski trails number 1 and 1a. If you have some runs under your belt, you can take the shiligarnik, Mosta and Plato lifts. They will lead you to the major blue runs: 11, 3, 5 and 10. There are a few ski schools in Bansko that can help you learn the ropes. They are located all through Pirin street, so even if you didn’t book online, they are pretty easy to find. If you need a ski school, check out Pirin 2000, Bansko’s ski school, located only meters from the gondola. 6 days x 4 hours group lessons costs 265€. 6 days x 2 hours priced 170€. These are the prices for ski or snowboard tuition for groups of up to 8 people in the high season which is Dec 22nd until Mar 7th.
You can take shorter courses, down to 1 day x 2 hours. Meeting point is in Banderishka Polyana, next to the gondola top station.
4 hours of private lessons costs 170€ for one, 220€ for 2, 250€ for 3 and 280€ for 4.
The prices for mid-season are 10% cheaper.
If you are advanced or intermediate, then the Banderitza lift and the 6 -seater Todorka are your best friends for the stay. They can get you anywhere on the west side of the resort, where nearly all of the red runs are, plus the only black run. From Banderitza 2 and Plato lifts you can ski anywhere. Bansko has 14 lifts, including one Gondola, six 4-seaters and two 6-seaters. Bansko doesn’t offer much space for advanced skiers, but the slopes are well-groomed, and plenty of snow canons keep them fresh.
Bear in mind that the slopes can get packed during holidays and weekends due to the small ski area and the cheap prices. Really really packed. So get to the slopes bright and early for open runs and fresh snow.
Six days skipass for adults will cost you 230 euros for adults and just shy of 100 euros for kids seven to12 years old. The local currency is the Bulgarian Lev which is around half a Euro.
To get to the ski area, only one lift connects the town, which is quite big for a ski resort. Therefore, the queue to the gondola can take up to 2 hours(!) In the high season. On these days, the town organises several ski buses that carry people to the top station, which is a 20 minutes ride, but the line to the ski bus is also 45 minutes. There are other tricks to avoid the 2 hours queue, which we will reveal in the insiders’ tips chapter later in the video 🙂
The 7km long gondola takes a 27-minute ride to Bunderishka Polyana, the base of the main part of the ski area at 1600 meters. From here, you can take the Banderiza 1 & 2 lifts to get to the top. To ski down from here, take ski road number 1, a 10km long easy blue run.
Bansko’s apres scene is small
But the nightlife scene is where Bansko excels, certainly for a modest resort. When the site is packed, the night comes alive and young people from all over get the bar hopping going.
Here are some of our favourite spots to hit After dinner. one of Bansko’s warm and folksy pubs, the Amigo is a good place for an early drink. It has live shows of cover bands that play mainstream classic with in a fun vibe. The disco is a bit wilder with more upbeat music and drinking contests. The oxygen is a great spot for some hardcore dancing and drinking and is the most popular club here. The Flash club has a bit more of a bling vibe and fency decoration. If you’re all worn out, and all that drinking made you hungry, Bansko has you covered with some late night spots especially for those with a sweet tooth
Bansko has several Casino's like the one in Platinum hotel.

I think this review is very generous. I just returned from there. €260 approximately for a basic lift pass. More for deluxe pass. Queues around 2 hours. Bus fights (no queuing just whoever gets there first) 40-50 min wait but have to pay more. Restaurant reviews accurate, definitely try the local restaurants, some absolutely amazing food. Night life is good too. Would recommend bar at base of the gondola, two bars with good music. Aprés vibes

biggest problem is gondola, waiting time 1-2 hours in the morning
i just went there first time last month from UK they had no snow was such a shame we only got one lift open missed out hugely unfortunately.

340 Euros for a six day VIP pass, that seems like such a bargain compared to the ski resorts here in California. That whole place seems like a bargain now especially with the current exchange rate. Wish I could be there, right now we are snowed in at Tahoe, we either get not enough snow or too much snow lol
I agree, the weather do gets crazy. in Bansko, only today, the resort got its real snow. only 1 run was open until today
I like how costs are very relative, depending on where you live. For the U.S. resorts 340 for 6 days seems very cheap, but for me it seems very expensive :D I live in Montenegro (South East Europe) and here I can buy a seasonal ski pass for 300 Euros. And you still get nice lifts, charming place, lots of freeride capacity and you don't ever wait to get on the lift for more then 5 minutes. I would love to snowboard elsewhere also, buy for now, it's a bit to expensive for me.

@@neznamtija8081 imam 30 godina, a bordovao sam samo u Kolasinu, jer sam prije 2 godine naucio da vozim :D Planiram da skupim nesto para i da probam Bansko ili neki slican resort ove godine
@@BatkoBrat even compared to Alps the skipass isn't cheap it's nearly the same price as for a port du Soleil pass which give you nearly 600km of ski runs, but for sure the accomodation cost is way cheaper.

Tip for the gondola, come 30min before opening, you will wait about 15min in the line and 20 more min for the ride.
It's not that true - there is waiting line 1 hr before opening if there are holidays...
Or go somewhere else. There are plenty of wonderful skiresorts with very little or no queue issues at all.
Sounds like Bansko could do with a 2nd gondola!!!

Oh God, don't come to Bansko anymore because it's extremely expensive: 85-100 euros a full dinner for 2 people, 50 euros/pers. gondola, unimaginable prices for accommodation (up to 2200 euros for 5 nights). I am sure that the rates are the same in Austria, Germany or France, and the services are clearly superior.

O Doamne, nu mai veniti in Bansko pentru ca este extrem de scump: 85-100 euro o cina completa pentru 2 persoane, 50 euro /pers. gondola, preturi inimaginabile la cazare (pana la 2200 euro pentru 5 nopti). Sunt sigur ca tarifele se gasesc la fel si in Austria, Germania ori Franta, iar serviciile sunt net superioare.

Definitely not true lol, I've just booked a 2 bedroom apartment for 7 days for around $800, and looking at the reviews and online prices of the local restaurants it's more like $20 per person if even that..

Having been there this year, the word is propaganda and its hard to get honest information. I went in February and the queues are biblical. Whether it's the two hour queue snaking round the car park from the resort in the morning, the traffic jam going up the mountain road in the morning, or the hundreds of people in the queue for the drag lift. Much of bansko is an unfinished building site with many building blocks from the 2008 financial crisis. So lots of unfinished roads, paths etc. At night it was hard to breath with all the locals burning wood to keep warm. The accommodation was well priced that said as was ski kit hire though food prices were high.

Yup. 45 euro for a 2 hour waiting time on the gondola and busy slopes... The French Alps give you the same price and you can't cover half of the slopes for a week.

I like bansko I really like it, but the price is bullshit, I'm Italian, I went to the Alps, go to Marmolada or near there you have thousand of km of slopes in 1 week you can barely cover it all, and there is more people just during the weekend, like normally everywhere even in bansko.
I pay 90$ in Canada and we get garbage food here . We get Just Hot Dogs and Crappy Burgers here in Ontario skiing . Been there and Bansko'' is amazing !

Really, I totally disagree with that. Went running there last year I thought they were the most lovely people I’d come across whilst travelling. Wonder if they bring outsiders in for the season

Decent resort for three days maximum for a cheap thrill. The town is a bit seedy though and not a nice alpine feel which is disappointing

Bansko and Panporovo '' are the Best for Ski !! And the Food is so Much better then in Switzerland !! Swiss Food is crap ! Bulgaria rules !
