Escape from monkey island on the PS2 was my intro to the series and gaming as a whole, played it with my mom when I was really young. I actually love the game so much so it does pain me to hear that everyone dislikes it for the most part, but they’re not wrong the tank controls and graphics have not aged well. Still a 10/10 game in my heart
Man I must have been about 4 or 5 when I first got to experience Monkey Island because my aunt would let me and my sister watch her play it. I so distinctly remember staying over at her house and the three of us crowded around her laptop late at night (probably about 10pm but I was a toddler so that felt like at LEAST 2am for me 😂) and tried to help direct her where to go! I would spend all day excited about getting to play Monkey Island at night, only to eventually (and sadly) fall asleep to the rhyming sword fighting. Still, the art style of Curse of Monkey Island unlocks deep and loving memories in me!! I always worried that the Monkey Island series was one that lived a bit more beautifully in my head than in reality, but this video wholly convinced me I've got to give all of them a try when I'm able, even the more 'meh' ones! There's something about this world + the clever wit and charm that is just so *fun*! Plus I'm pretty sure my aunt and sister and I stopped right after Escape, so I've got some catching up to do anyway! I just need the time, bought Curse of Monkey Island not too long ago looking to relive my nostalgia now that I'm all grown but WOW was it harder than I thought 😂 Definitely harder to play by myself than as a young'n with my aunt and older sister to guide me. I might also have to try some of those other games you mentioned around 8:25 - I've ALWAYS loved a good point and click! Thanks so much for the video, and the push to get back to these gems!!
I’m glad this video helped push you to replay these classic games! I’d definitely recommend checking out those other point and click ones if you like Monkey Island. Day if the Tentancle is going to blow you away, I guarantee it
Wow that’s really cool to hear! I felt like no one would want to watch it if they hadn’t played it before so it’s cool to know that the video is good without knowing it! I’d definitely recommend playing them, especially since I didn’t really spoil any of the puzzles for you!
I think to be fair to Ron, it is his game/creation/world and he has a particular vision for it. His inspiration for MI was the Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disney. MI was his first creation, I don't think he wanted to make million sequels to that and be that "MI guy". It makes sense for an artist wanting to do more and diverse things. And for the sequel, he probably wanted to homage where the MI idea fist had come to him (ie: the Pirates ride at Disney). So, just because Lucasarts decided to continue with the series because people liked is not his fault. Could he have retconned everything with the final game? Sure. But I don't think there is any harm in these stories just being imaginative play in a theme park. It doesn't matter if they are "real" adventures or not. At the end of the day, we are playing stories contained within videogames. You can still pretend that fantasy world MI exists in is real and there is no theme park.
Sure, you can pretend, but that feels like giving up in the way. Like “man that movie was really bad but I can pretend it did what I wanted”. Some people will inevitably resonate with the ending and others, like, me feel unsatisfied. Endings are tough and you’ll probably never please everyone. Anyways I totally get what you’re saying but I don’t think I’ll ever change my mind about it
Great video! Got me wanting to play more of the games (i only played the first two special editions). Mad respect for disliking the French tbh. And altho its not like amazing preforming im glad to see it got more than the 100 views you said at the end and it only deserves more. Cheers and I would highly recommend King's Quest of you like these games. (It has the same point and click gameplay and tons pf comedy. At least the new one)
Thank you so much! I’m always glad to see people checking out this video. Maybe I should check out kings quest, I’d definitely be interested if there’s a remastered version of them
Wow, apperantly everything about Tales from Monkey Island had gone over my head when I was little, I don't blame myself, I didn't know English after all😅. Regardless, that was a nice video. I'm 7 months late but, nice job, mate!
I disagree. Although the graphics are very dated and were even questionable at the time, and the controls were clunky and gamepad only, the storyline was engaging, funny, and definitely canon in the series. A lot of people crap on it, and I get why, but for me, even with Monkey Kombat, it will always be a "must play" for any MI fan.
The real version of the secret of monkey island is the egA version

Okay, we have to admit MI4 was pretty bad.
That’s the one with 3D models, right? Their transition to 3D was not pretty
