as a 12 year old girl, my uncle didn’t think how I was gonna do my first time frog gigging. I caught 35 by myself in 1 hour and learned to skin them . My uncle has never been prouder and I haven’t stopped frog gigging since. Bare handing beginning of the season then using a gig at the end is 🔛🔝
A good buddy of mine and I went fishing for Catfish one night and they weren’t biting. We were at this little pond but there were some monsters in it. Another buddy of mine caught a near 24 lb hog out of this pond. All night long we heard the bull frogs going insane. I decided to put my fishing rod down and go frog gigging, by hand. I single handedly(no pun intended) nabbed about 12 massive bull frogs. Went home, dispatched them and then cleaned them. I marinated them in Italian dressing and than cooked them in an open frying pan. They were incredible. I haven’t been frog gigging since that night. Mullet Man. You’re making me hungry for fresh frog legs. Think I’m fixing to go again soon, now.
Silver Ballesteros I imagine there are parts that can be eaten, but this is the only way I was raised to have them in the south. Like Gator, the tail is usually the prized meat. Enlighten me.
Great Video! Your video brought back some very good memories of times gone by. At 76 with some health problems, I have not done it is several years now. We mostly hunted for them in bush lined farm ponds, using a 22 caliber rifle and long handled dip net. Shoot them right at the waterline with hollow points and it would flip them over onto their backs where we could dip them up. SUGGESTION: When cleaning the frogs, get you a cutting board, if nothing more than a 1"x 6" a foot long. It will greatly enhance keeping your knives sharp. Modern farming practices, tractor side mounted brush cutters and herbicides have pretty much relegated our frog hunting to river, slew and swamp pond edges. Around seventy years ago, Grandpa taught me to clean and cook the frog legs the same way you do it. I have done it that way all these years and I have never had a problem with it or had anyone turn their noses up and not eat because they were not good. Keep up the good work, keep making the videos and I will continue watching and enjoying them. Oh, another suggestion, take a moment and give God thanks for the bounty provided you before eating. It doesn't seem to have hurt the popularity of Phil Robinson "The Duck Commander" Family.
Mullet Man,,,, on those bigger frogs you save the whole frog, they’ve got some nice back loins and front legs. Next time skin the whole frog give it a try,,,,,,,,,,,,👍 great vid
bullfrog gigging is my favorite! I’ve been doing it ever since I was little girl with my dad since we have a pond out at our house. Definitely something fun and easy to do with family like you said :)
You know impaling frogs with large polls or “gigging” is a very cruel way to catch frogs. If you wanna catch them, get a net and release them when your done. They eat pesky mosquitos and provide a role in the environment.
Loved the video and that is one cool retro kitchen. Look at those cabinets and the counter top. That has to be an old style house. The range is upgraded but that ok. I notice these things because I am a old retro dude.
Forewarning. Skinned out frogs are the absolute worst smelling thing when rotting. Which is what I learnt in my high school days frog gigging. Two trash bags, sort of quadruple wrapped, keeps the smell at bay. Put the frogs in the first bag, squeeze as much air out as possible, twist the bag down tight and tight a overhand knot in the twisted trashbag section. Then flip the remainder of the bag inside out, and tie with the normal strands. Repeat this process with the second bag, and you won’t smell it even after a week in the sun in your dump can outside in the summer. It’s a good way to bag up any skinned out small critter if you lived in a neighborhood like I did
Sadly I live in California now. But in the 80’s, I’d go to Caddo lake in East Texas and hunt bullfrog at night and bass fishing during the day. Love eating frog legs! Better than chicken wings. Thanks for bringing me back some of my fond memories.
How cum ya didn’t cry about your vidja being demonetized? I would love to live the Texas lifestyle if my situation was different I would move.. also love your content ya show every aspect of the hunt to the table keep em coming
I take a pair of pruning shears with me and as I gig the frog I cut just above the legs so they stay together and throw the rest of the frog back in the water. It less messy back at the house cleaning them and you can just use a grocery bag or something to carry them because they won't jump out.
Love your videos man! Good to see someone showing people who dont know, that we dont just kill for the sake of it 🤙ya defiently need to come to new zealand an eat good here!
I love giggin'! I do it every year in Indiana where I live. We got some bigguns out here too. We call em "moes". We always say that's Moe out there making noise when we hear the giants
