I don't understand why we even have to wait for a carrier to push anything out to an unlocked phone. I believe Samsung should do that directly. It makes zero sense to anybody

@@Truecrimeresearcher224 T-Mobile are morons as said same to me, and so I called Samsung, talked to tier 2 tech for 10 mins (w/ a 3 min wait, AWESOME IMO 👏🏼👏🏼, compared to my 48 min wait time for T-Mobile for general support, 24 mins for tech support, and then 5G mins for a tier 2 agent to help me…..which in the end, said it’s Samsung’s responsibility to send me updates to my phone 🙄😱😳, & they get paid! 🤦🏼) and they said no…..comes from carriers, even if an unlocked phone, 🤦🏼
This is why we have so many issues with carriers, updates, and android; and why Apple kinda got THIS RIGHT, as they control and push out updates and support phones for years!👍🏻; unlike Android, where you can have a Unlocked Note 20 Ultra 512GB black model/version and be using t-mobile like me (was Sprint, but before I even turned phone on for first time, I made sure had the new T-Mobile SIM, as knew would save time and headaches later on, which family is going thru now on their S20 phones trying to switch from Sprint SIM over to T-Mobile SIM…..something should be able to do by self thru Acct, but b/c Sprint and T-Mobile SIM cards have diff number of characters, MUST call and talk to tier 2 for swapping/activating the new T-Mobile SIMs, 🤦🏼 kinda frustrating IMO) WHICH was a gift, a very EXPENSIVE gift after all accessories (case, screen protector, SD card which is awesome till Samsung killed and now apps are stopping Support which makes you have 2 options really. Buy google cloud or Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage….both suck, or suppose a 3rd, do nothing and run out of space eventually. Migrating from Samsung cloud to OneDrive was a COMPLETE AND UTTER F****P for both Samsung/MS parts. Ended up losing complete 1-2 yrs worth of images/videos and some docs/etc….ended up somewhere in the ether of “cloud storage”…..🤬.
So, left with an expensive Phone that is on May 2021 Firmware [when my ‘Rents S20 phones have August Update on their carrier bought “locked” phones.] and really annoying tbh. Also, think b/c the NOTE LINE IS OFFICIALLY DOA, Don’t think T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and Samsung really give a crap and care. Why would they (even w/ Google’s promise of guaranteed update support for ALL Android phones for XX time) when THIS IS PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE FORCING US TO BUY A NEWER PHONE, which aren’t cheap, and again, imo, that is 100% OUR FAULT. WE LET APPLE GET AWAY W/ IS FOR IPHONE X AS PPL PAID THE PRICES, THEN other brands followed right along and ppl PAID AGAIN, REGARDLESS OF PRICE. 8F WE ALL WOULDA NOT BOUGHT FOR A WEEK, EVEN FEW DAYS….EVENTUALLY would hit wallets and May get the point. But doubt it, as someone will always pay, always.
But just think when new iPhone 13 launches soon and NOT 1 PERSON BOUGHT IT IN ANY PLACE ON EARTH AND WE DID TNIS FOR A DAY, 2, 5, A WEEK, ETC… how much money would Apple lose, & w/ silicone shortages….believe the shareholders would take some serious looks at what was happening and why.
Or maybe not, but I’d hope so; as paying the prices for flagship phones (which really, aren’t special really as budget phones can compete now, for most part, imo)…..should make anyone scream & shout. Can by a used car for what pay for a fold 2/3 phone!!!
Usually Carrier have to modify the firmware with all their carrier branded bloatware. They are the gate keepers. They don't really care if you get updates or not. I mean it was such a problem that in 2015, the Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act made it legal for customers to unlock phones without penalty. Carrier can try to indice you to stay on their network by locking you down on software updates. I mean look at carrier phones compared to a Google Pixel which gets to dicate how you get your updates. Not sure if it's the same with carrier branded Google Phones but it seems like an Google phone directly bought from Google gets prompt updates. Google tried come out with pure android editions they called "Google Play Edition". They seem like they didn't do too well because they aren't selling these phones anymore. Seems like customers just didn't care about updates or a pure android experience.

This actually worked on my unlocked GS20U 5G on T-Mobile. Swapped it with a VZ SIM and it immediately downloaded the latest update. Thanks Greg!
Also, you may want to add in a future video that the SIM does not have to be active, as it was in my case.

Great trick for Unlocked device's. Unfortunately I'm on Verizon also but my phone wasn't bought unlocked so hopefully this *might* work for some users but ad I said we already got the updated version. Enjoy to everyone who's able to use this work around

So I have a oneplus 7t pro that's unlocked that was through T-Mobile originally, would I need to find a sim card that's been on a phone with android 12 or would I need to find someone with a TMobile sim card that's been on Android 12 for me to force the update?
Does it work for blacklisted AT&T phone? Only phone in the house with AT&T. -I got my dad's Note 9 and looks like it is blacklisted from AT&T, and it won't Update to android 10, that's just bs right there. I have a Note 9 AT&T, and S9 T - Mobile, both missed payment, and both blacklisted

I just purchased a Verizon unlocked s21+ and noticed the android version was still 12, with the security patch from Feb 1, 2022. Trying to update the software via the settings menu said the phone was up to date. After seeing this suggestion, I took the SIM card from my locked t-mobile phone and put it in my other unlocked phone. Lo and behold, I was able to update the software to Android 13, with security patch of Nov 1, 2022. The only downside of this was that it installed some t-mobile specific bloatware, but the phone works just fine otherwise with an international sim card. Hope this helps!

Have a s20 ultra unlocked it shows no carrier on start up I tried verizon sims n t mobile sims but from straight talk sims cards my T-Mobile unlocked works fine n gets updates with the t mobile sims but how to update the no carrier unlocked phone?

@@aaronthomas7010 . So is 5G faster than wifi now? I have not seen any test comparisons. Although I use wifi at home 24/7 even when my phone is showing 5G network and don't notice a speed difference.
5g is not twice as fast... maybe in perfect conditions. My experience is 4g is still faster considerably since its widely rolled out

My S21 Ultra doesn't do that "phone will reboot to support new sim card" even on unlocked firmware. I'm forever stuck on Verizon software. What gives?
Like I can literally put an att or tmobile sim into my phone and I'll get service but it'll continue to use verizon settings and won't support the proper frequency bands etc. for the new provider

Depending on the service divider depends on when you will receive an update from what Samsung Verizon and other companies told me I'm using S9 plus Verizon and I'm still on ui 2.0 and I can't even see when the last update was installed or toggle download over wifi because that feature is not on my device

On your computer download and install smart switch, connect your phone to the computer, open smart switch, in the smart switch there should be update button

Same here I have Samsung Galaxy s9 plus Verizon 2.0 ui security patch April first and I can't even toggle download over wifi because the option is not there I called Samsung Verizon and my current phone service and they all said that once an update becomes available you should be able to download it even if you're using a different phone provider
