Maybe the mowing with access to a machine. But the trees etc are the landlord problem. He is being a jerk in my opinion.
Brilliant job. Refused to give back ?…Seems reasonable given the landlord will need to pay someone to clean up before the next tenant moves in…isn’t it customary for landlords to retain a tenants deposit if they failed to keep the property clean & tidy ?
Here in Cape Town that is the point of deposit
Sorry I don't think renters should be responsible for landscaping..
Mostly deposits should be used just in case inside the house gets damaged or leaving trash in the yard
Where I’m from, we use the word "landscaping " when we refer to altering an existing garden design…typically landlords do not permit tenants to landscape. Mowing the lawn isn’t viewed as landscaping, just part of keeping the property clean & tidy.

Nah it depends. I can't tell you how many times I've moved into a home and the yard wasn't cut by the day of the key handover. And then they wanna catch amnesia when it's time to move out.

Fall River Lawncare and It's His Turf are the A-Team of lawncare/landscaping. That is a lot of property to maintain without the necessary commerical equipment, and it takes time to clean up.
Well been there done that . If they do no give her a refund after you do all the work tell her to put a $1000.00 lean on there house . Every year that goes by she will make interest on the money . Sometimes the landlord has to learn the hard way .
She should definitely get her deposit back with the blessing just bestowed to her .Both lawn services have given way beyond the gift of helping out the lady and you Blake !!!

That landlord was all concerned about the yard being cleaned up, but cares nothing about the rest of the house. Look at that black stuff all over the siding that needs a good pressure wash, and that cheap, leftover plastic siding all around the bottom of the house just slapped in there to cover up the open area underneath. Looks like he had cousin Bubba install that stuff. And the broken gate in the fence the guys kept having to move out of the way, bet he never fixes that either. He just wanted a good yard cleanup that he didn't have to pay for. 😡
That landlord probs didn't want to repay the deposit.. Used the lawn clean up as excuse.. Shame.. Haha.. She got it done.. Hope she was reimbursed OK.

So glad you were able to help this lady out. I can understand the landlord’s position. However let’s be honest that tree didn’t grow up from under the house overnight. Landlords need to protect and maintain theirs assets. Maybe with the next tenant they could arrange a regular contract with someone. Then it doesn’t get out of control. I’m sure adding a little extra to cover that cost will be less work for the tenant. And it will maintain the property better.

The LL is an ass. I hope your daughter is feeling better and it wasn't anything serious. I hope your truck smells nicer too, lol. It was good of you to not only offer to help the renter out, but to be able to get Blake to get it done when you couldn't. Life happens and sometimes messes up our plans. Kids getting sick can't be planned for but must be cared for before all else. I really understand this because I've had migraines as long as I can remember. I messed up many plans in my life. My own, family's plans, friends'... I always felt terrible about it even though I had no control over it.
It's great that you and Blake help each other out when in need. Friendships like that are few and far between. Treasure it.

Here in Australia a bond of 4 x weekly rent is held until tenant leaves ppty in same condition as when they moved in. House and gardens. Eg $500 PW equates to $2000.

Great job, guys. From the little information given, it sounds like this landlord was taking advantage of the tenant. If he hadn't provided her with a mower, I'm not sure how he expected the yard work to be kept up. If the roots of one of those trees had broken a water line or punched through the septic tank, he'd have had a hard time proving in court that the tenant was responsible. With a property this size, he could have just set the rent $100 higher and hired someone else to come take care of the lawn in the summer and do snow removal in the winter. Withholding her entire $1000 deposit for a yard that looks as though it's made up entirely of weeds and dead spots is asinine. Thankfully you guys went above and beyond. I'd wait until she gets her deposit back and then send the landlord a bill. But I'm petty like that. 🙂

I think that the landlord has a bit of a cheek since he clearly has not been maintaining the property very well! That crawlspace covering is bad, and the wooden porches clearly had rotten wood.
Where I am, the deposit is to ensure that tenants don’t trash the home, not to ensure the renter does yard work.
Oh well, you guys made a fantastic job of the cleanup and I hope she gets her deposit back and has a happy future. 👏👏
Proper title of the video should read, "tenant breaks lease contract by not maintaining property and landlord needs to be made whole by collecting the deposit check". This click bait title makes it sound like the landlord is evil and should let the tenants ignore the lease they sign. But obviously the truth doesn't generate clicks.....

In defence of the landlord, I used to work as a maintenance man for some rental property and I can't begin to tell you how many renters moved out on us in the middle of the night then demanded their deposit back. The places would usually be a total disaster. Maintenance was in their contract free of charge but you'd be surprised at how many would move out and never tell us anything was in need of repair or broken. One deuce set fire to the property and another took a shotgun to their place! Had they just asked for repairs their deposit would have been refunded and them on their way. Sadly, they faced criminal charges instead. I'm glad this young lady reached out and asked for the help she needed.
What a landlord - so upset over the slightly (well, compared to other videos) un-kept yard but looks like he isn't keeping up the exterior of the house - the lower panels are out of place or missing, the gate isn't fastened, the house needs to be washed and the door/window next to the rear entry is bad. This crew did a great job - she had better get her deposit back pronto!
