Turns out the McDonald's lady had a legit case, she had to get skin grafts all over her body, they gave it to her at an insane temperature and didn't have a cup holder for her. She asked for help with medical bills because she didn't wanna sue and they refused despite knowing they were wrong so she sued and won easily because of how terrible her injuries were. You should look it up.
Edit: also, the media made fun of her relentlessly because of how it sounded without looking into it and a lot of it was fueled by a desire to trick the country into crippling the ability to sue big companies so people would have no recourse when they're wronged by them...in the end it was a tiny fraction of McDonalds weekly profits she was paid and stuff like what's in this video is impossible due to the Americans with Disabilities Act (not due to fear of getting sued) as otherwise they could just get you to sign a waiver. If it's more of a ride instead of access to a business it's still possible here.
oh yeah. and mcdonalds actively ran the campaign to make her look crazy. many people fell victim to corporate propaganda. classic murica
Yeah was just gonna say I feel so bad for that old lady because McDonalds genuinely did her dirty yet everyone is always like "UHHH she sued them for hot coffee, how dumb" without ever actually taking the time to look into it.
@@SilharaTheChoseneah, people who think it's silly should look up the pictures (CW: Gross/Disturbing). Basically the whole media push around it was propoganda to remove the only way we have of pushing back when companies abuse customers and is the reason we have monetary caps on lawsuit amounts in many states. Sadly, it's really easy to get people to go against their own interests with a well crafted story (see anti-union propaganda in the USA for a good example).
I was about to bring up that case when he mentioned it. It’s really messed up. It’s been years, but I think that McDonalds location had been warned about the machine overheating the coffe & burning other ppl. But after her injury McDonalds had her sign an nda & then McDonalds had spread rumors about the case to misinform the public & play the victim.
This, yea it is totally my rando favorite legal case that is always brought up. Not only was she in the right she won. I believe the McDees was also told several times before it was too hot by the authorities.
The lady that sued McDonalds was 100% in the right, she deserved every penny, the coffee was unreasonably hot, it gave her 3rd degree burns, it was so hot skin fused together. The reason everyone thinks she idiot who was just trying to get paid was because McDonalds was spreading those rumors around trying sway public opinion against her in hopes that she would drop it or so they might have to pay as much
A twelve-person jury reached its verdict on August 18, 1994.Applying the principles of comparative negligence, the jury found that McDonald's was 80 percent responsible for the incident and Liebeck was 20 percent at fault. Though there was a warning on the coffee cup, the jury decided that the warning was neither large enough nor sufficient. They awarded Liebeck $200,000 in compensatory damages, which was reduced by 20 percent to $160,000. In addition, they awarded her $2.7 million in punitive damages. Personally i don't drink coffee the second its given to me. Anyone who goes for piping hot coffee right away is somewhat at fault. not saying she was in the wrong, but also who drinks piping hot coffee right away?
I literally just commented the almost same thing!
@@Watashi_wa_robottodesu recall hearing that isn’t that she was drinking it already, she was the passenger of her nephew or son, they pulled in to parking spot and she was taking the lid off to add the sugar and cream and when she popped the lid off it spilled. She was preparing to drink it while the spill occurred Edit: because you’re right, nobody drinks coffee that’s too hot to drink….
@@deannewhitney recalling and knowing are two different things. Hint why there's comparative negligence...the "who drinks piping hot coffee" because everyone tends to sip it right away and go "ah it's hot". Like no shit. The big thing is people were lying saying there wasn't a warning label when there was
came here to say this. The urban legend has become that it was a frivolous lawsuit, but it certainly was not. With that said, Leon is not wrong about people trying to cash in with these types of lawsuits.
I’m so grateful everyone is down here defending the woman who was burned. If y’all look up her photos make sure no kids are around bc it is GRAPHIC. She was not just looking to get paid, she was so brutally burned she could have died
right !!!!!
I worked at McDonald's in 2011-2012, my first job. I remember the hot coffee was usually brewed and left in the ALL METAL carafe on the burner with the burner turned on to keep it hot. And it was like full power or nothing on that burner, so it doesn't surprise me people would get burned by mcdonalds coffee. There's a reason it's 1 dollar
The worse part was they had been told by authority that thier coffee was too hot and they ignored it and that woman suffered for it.
I'm grateful to see it too. I haven't heard anybody refer to that as a frivolous lawsuit in quite a while so I was surprised to see that neither of them have heard the more up to date understanding of what happened
Yep 💯
Glad to see everyone jumping to call foul on the McDonald’s Coffee misinformation.
there isn't any Mc donalds mis information. The editor correctly displaced the settlement amount and just cuz she got hurt doens't mean it was their fault. Its not negligent to serve a hot beverage to someone who pays for said service. Sorry she got hurt. But thats not on the people who you paid to provide you a service.
you want Coffee, Guess how thats made?
The reality:
The woman was in the PASSENGER seat.
The car was parked at a McDonalds parking lot after having gotten the coffee.
She had placed the coffee cup between her knees.
She removed the lid off of the coffee cup to add cream and suger which weakened the structural integrity of the top of the coffee cup.
Coffee then spilled on her legs causing 3rd degree burns.
As for money:
She did NOT get millions of dollars.
What she did get was: $160,000 in compensatory damages.
The jurors also awarded her with $2.7 million in punitive damages, BUT the judge reduced punitive damages to $480,000, three times the compensatory amount, for a total of $640,000.
HOWEVER the decision was appealed by both McDonald's and Liebeck in December 1994, and the parties settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
WE DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH SHE GOT.
Stop saying she got millions, she didn't.
In all likelyhood McDonalds covered all her medical costs (compensatory damages) and a liitle (or a lot) on top of that for the emotional damage.
McDonalds also changed their policy on coffee temperature.
Calm down, fella.... consider decaf.
@@benc.enlots I am calm. I just wish people did 5 minutes of research instead of clinging to something false that has been going around the internet for decades now.
@@Eustify because we know it was less than the adjusted amount? Because that’s how settlements work? That means less than 900k or so max so yeah, not millions.
Damn boyy, you went all out and killed it! Good job
And she didn’t even want to sue them in the first place. She asked for $20,000 to help cover medical costs.
that mcdonalds story take is wild😭the cup was heated past the limit, and it was so hot that she got 3rd degree burns all over her legs.
Not JUST her legs 😳
you put your hand on the stove and burn yourself is that the appliance manufacturers fault cuz you stuck your hand on a hot sureface?
You really need to do more looking into the McDonald's Hot coffee case it's actually really messed up and the extra messed up part is the fact that McDonald's ran a PR campaign to smear her name and get people to believe that it was no big deal like you were saying
Coffee is a hot drink
Duh
Was just gonna type this out. That poor lady is ripped on by too many who are uneducated on the facts of the case
@jgreen2015 she got severe third degree burns. Had to have several surgeries, including plastic surgery to rebuild her genitals and skin grafts. The coffee was far hotter than "regular" coffee. Mcdonalds coffee, then, was nearly 200°. Starbucks is served at 150°. McDonalds knew if their coffee was spilled it would cause 3rd degree burns. It was money saving somehow to serve it that hot. The smear campaign was diabolical.
Her suit was far from frivolous and she was not a litigious person.
@@jgreen2015yeah and hers was hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns, well above what anyone would consider hot and safely into the scalding territory. She couldnt walk for months.
@@jgreen2015No, this coffee was SO hot she had third-degree burns on her body, including her genitalia. This isn't something where you take a sip of it and blow on it because it is a tad too hot. They made this coffee so hot so as to allow for the cooling that would occur between the restaurant and their destination because, otherwise, people would bitch about their coffee being cold.
Warms my heart seeing people speaking the truth about the McDonald's coffee thing. It drives me nuts when people blame her, no it was 100% McDonald's fault and there's actually a really good documentary about it "Hot Coffee"

In addition, they awarded her $2.7 million in punitive damages. not according to the people who defended her. There's still negligence on both sides. Don't drink hot drinks right away or try and drive and drink them (didn't think that would needed to be said but some people are special and eat and drink while driving). Mcdonalds is clearly at majority fault, but there was a warning label (Most people say there wasn't, but the people who were there saw the cup) But to try and drive and drink a piping hot cup of joe isn't the smartest idea either.
I'm in the same camp. I came to the comments to see if someone had spoken up or if I would have to lay down some facts & every comment I'm seeing is someone who beat me too it!
I can’t remember if I saw that documentary but nonetheless thanks cuz I’ll watch it again!
@@Watashi_wa_robottodesuthe coffee was way hotter than the 185 degrees it was supposed to be served at. Also, she didn’t attempt to drink it right away. She had it in between her legs because there wasn’t a cup holder while she was fixing her coffee. And either the cap came off and it spilled or she took off the cap and it spilled. But coffee should never be so hot that it melts clothing to your body or requires skin grafts to heal the resulting burns.
@@Watashi_wa_robottodesuand she wasn’t driving. Her grandson was. Also, the car was still when the spill happened. It was not in motion.
The lady got 3rd degree burns in the passenger seat while her grandson was driving. She only wanted McDonald's to pay for medical bills. McDonald's didn't want to help her or lower the temperature of their coffee despite other people in the past getting seriously burned from it as well. Which is why they put so much effort into twisting the story to make her look like an idiot.
And now only people who defend McDonald's look like idiots.
AND the car was actually in park when it spilled. She was taking the lid off to add her cream and sugar.
@@lauriehand1021and for compensation they offered her some coupons
Also, if I remember corretly, they were breweing the coffee hotter than they were supposed to be because they figured that people wouldn't drink it right away beause they were driving, and the coffee would have cooled down to the "normal brewing temp" by the time they did drank it.
Leon, the coffee case is not about lables, its about how the coffee was extremely hot and got her 3rd degree burns.
People misrepresent the case soo bad. McDonald's had been cited and fined numerous times prior to the incident. They also never changed the temp of the coffee (180-190°) to this day...
Coffee is gonna be hot -> don’t spill on self
@@Tixbomber I believe they did change the temp, but over some years gradually raised it back up again.
Thank you, I was just about to comment. One of the outcomes from the suit was putting warning labels on everything.

McDonald’s paid news outlets to make the coffee lady’s story sound stupid but I’m pretty sure the coffee was hot enough to scold her skin and left scars
3rd degree burs all over he "lap" area which included her genitals that required emergency life saving surgery. The woman nearly died from the coffee burns.
@@gameface6091emergency lip saving surgery*
Yeah she needed multiple skin grafts. It was 3rd degree burns all over her crotch, thighs, butt, and legs.
@@cured_bacon647no, she could’ve died. Let’s not make jokes about an 80 yr old lady’s vagina.
it is stupid. it would be like me suing my stove manufacturer when I burn my hand on the stove when its hot.
I honestly thought somebody who spends their life on the internet like Leon would know the facts about McDonald's coffee
His "life" is not the internet it's criticism of the internet and actual life as it's socially unacceptable to certain individuals.
Same! I cannot stand to hear people act like she was seeking millions when all she wanted was her medical bills paid. McDonald’s was successful in spinning that cause people still get it wrong.
he knows enough to know its silly that anyone won any amount of money for purchasing a hot beverage
McDonald’s lady slander will not be tolerated
👏👏👏
Btw, the whole McDonalds thing was McDonalds fault. They had their coffee set over the allowed temperature and it caused her to have to have skin graphs, melted her clothing to her crotch, thigh area. YES, McDonald’s paid millions but not TO her. It was for violating the temperature policies, etc. she only received a small amount of money. It’s actually really sad
I saw a special on the McDonald’s hot coffee spill and it’s not what you think. She was in the passenger seat with a relative who witnessed the mishap. The temperature was nearly boiling and the vicious burns to the inside of her thighs were extreme. The pictures were horrific ~
That poor McDonald's woman got a second or third degree burn on herself she was an elderly woman and she wasn't even driving I believe they like took it home to her and since they gave it to her so hot that when it fell on her lap she like got permanently scarred
PLEASE do more research on the hot coffee lawsuit. I used to think like you, but it's not what you think. She just wanted enough money to pay for hospital bills. You need to see the horrific burns this lady got.
It was a huge joke to everyone but she was seriously injured. And, yeah, she just wanted to cover her bills for the medical care.
Was just getting ready to say the same thing.
That story is a good example of a corporation twisting the narrative. Disgusting what they did to that poor woman and they've never apologized or corrected the misinformation and never will. Good thing other people find out about these situations and get the truth out.
I'm pretty sure that the coffee was dangerously hot and because of the lawsuit they stopped making it so hot.
ruclips.net/video/p17RvTWxhdg/видео.htmlsi=gVKvBu4P5pyvHgR0
That's McDonald's lawsuit was actuality more complicated than that, John Oliver did a great piece on it. It wasn't needless litigation, the lady was a grandmother I believe and the coffee was too hot for human consumption, it literally would given you severe burns if you tried to drink it. When it spilled on her I think she got 2nd or 3rd degree burns. She might've even needed skin grafts.
She burnt her labia with hot coffee, Leon. HER LABIA!!!
which one? the labia majora or labia minora? you know there are 2 different ones right? also she burnt her legs, thighs, crotch, butt and had to have emergency surgery because the coffee was hot enough to melt her pants to her flesh and she stood a very real risk of dying, so maybe instead of trying to suck up to leon you learn the actual facts.
JESUS, ARE YOU SERIOUS?! That is absolutely horrific
3rd degree burns@@staceynewby7504
7:15 that story about the coffee ladybug is so fucked. She got disfigured by the coffee. It was spilled on her scoldin hot, you should see the pictures of her wounds from that. People got the same perception as Leon. The lady didn't even want to sue, she had to to get her medical bills paid for by insurance.
Look into the truth if that case, meet the lady. Leon like many are just blatantly wrong.
4:49 I got this one... been in construction all my life, that effect is created by the way the light hits the grain of the wood. The light side is reflecting light, and the darkside is the valley of the grain. And the older the wood, the more intense the effect.
To clarify on the suit amount, she only wanted to pursue medical costs, the lawyers set a price equal to what McDonalds made in revenue from coffee in a single day.
Oh my god. When mrs lush said she got goosebumps and Leon said “you got the GB’s?” IS THAT WHERE HEEBEE GEEBEES COMES FROM?!
True “woh dude” moment
I was today years old...
Poor Leon getting roasted in the comments about the coffee thing lol
I know he is being facetious, but I like her intros. Short, clear, concise, no bluster, no bullshit, lets get to it...perfect intros.
Leon being paid by big McDonald's haha
Those Ronald dollars.
Ur wrong about that McDonald's lady. You should look that up cuz what you explained is not what happened. The coffee they gave her was right under the boiling point n the found that out by the settings they had on that McDonald's location coffee machine. She was not driving, they were parked, she suffered 3rd degree burns all over her legs n the top wasn't on the cup properly. Theres a lot more to it than what i just explained but i suggest you go watch a few vids or read a few articles about that case bcuz that specific McDonald's location was extremely negligent.
You know who else complained about safety features? The guy who invented that OceanGate sub..
Too soon dude
The McDonald's law suit, was not frivolous, like the media made it out to be. The woman actually had to have skin grafts, and the coffee was much hotter than reasonable. She originally only wanted her medical bills paid, and McDonald's tried to give her something like $1,000 - which did not cover her costs. She only then went after the larger settlement, after being insulted. A normal cup of coffee would not give more than a first degree burn - no need for surgery.
There is a lot more to that McDonnald's hot coffee story. The press kinda sensationalized it and it admittedly sounds ridiculous on the surface. But the the real story in a nut shell is that the coffee was so hot it burned this old woman and spilled entirely on onto her crotch and fused her skin to her clothing. She was suing for her medical bills because she couldn't afford it, not as a ploy to make money from the incident. It pretty much ruined her life as I recall.
So for the Coffee Lawsuit, the woman actually wanted McDonald's to pay her medical bills (20k) and they offered her like 800 so that is why she sued. She acknowledged that she was at fault but the coffee was at 190 degrees F and McDonald's had hundreds of other complaints of the coffee being too hot and burning people. Hers seemed to be the most severe
The LSD clip was on point, everything seems to move in a scooby doo way, in waves . Nothing stops moving and when you move your head it's worse, it takes a sec or two for things to catch back up.
She was not driving. She was a passenger. The lid was not properly secured and the coffee wasn't just "hot" it was on the verge of boiling and as such was not classified as food but a hazardous material. McDonalds had been made aware of over 700 severe burns caused by their coffee. Not just owies but over 700 times when people needed significant medical attention after being burned by McDonalds coffee. this particular woman needed emergency LIFE SAVING surgery as she had third degree burns all over her inner thigh and genitals. She was almost killed by the "hot" coffee.
McDonalds kept their coffee hotter than is standard in the industry. Was made aware this was hurting people and they didn't care.
There are two types of monetary awards in this type of case, compensatory damages are to compensate the victim for their tangible damages (surgery costs, lost work, etc.) and punitive damages which are not related to the victim at all but are intended to punish the perpetrator. Punitive damages are intended to motivate the offender to change their behavior. So the woman didn't get millions for her burns, McDonalds had to pay enough so that they would stop doing the bad thing they had been doing well after they knew it was bad.
Dude you definitely have ti watch a documentary about that case. Its way worse for the victim than the media played it out. Her life was terrinle after the incident and she wanted only a few grand to cover her surgery
That LSD simulator is 110% how it feels to be on acid. Everything looks/feels like it's breathing around you, light and shadows dance around, and the tracers around the hand is what made it look completely accurate!
I was going to say the same thing.
That's not the experience I had with LSD. In fact, the three or so times I used it the effects were pretty different one to the next.
That video looked more like my experience on shrooms than LSD. LOL But everyone’s experience is different.
Tell you what, I've took lsd alot, but one time I had someone give me N-BOMe and I'd never tripped so hard in my life.
If that is your trip experience then you need better drugs.
To be fair, they were hyper heating their coffee and her leg basically melted. But. You know.
Leon comin in with the homeschooled off-the-cuff wisdom yet again. At this point it's just to drive up interaction lol
8:04 I love that kind of furniture. Saving so much space for tiny apartments.
The comments made about the woman who sued McDonald's with the hot coffee there is totally more to that story and once you know it you'll be on her side, there is an episode of Adam ruins everything about it, it's amazing how burned this woman actually was she had to have skin grafts, all she wanted them to do was turn the coffee down regulate it they wouldn't do it she wound up having to sue them, I don't believe she even got any money and then they turned it into look at how petty this woman was and wanted to sue, it's very interesting.
The local hospital in my hometown had that type of elevator when i was a kid. Used to ride it all the way round. it's basically a big chain that goes round and round.
My favourite couple on RUclips ❤
Same
YES! That one that started with the hand was ON POINT for being baked. I rewound that 3 times to watch and see you make fun of me loving weed as well. ❤😂
I'm really happy to see everyone in the comments talking about the coffee case and how the women was justified. Glad to see that the majority perspective of this case isn't what it used to be
Mrs Lush, such a team player. You two are an amazing duo.
MC Donald lay got third degree burns,
Coffee was actually too hot.
Love the LSD visual at the end. Very accurate
I'm about 98% sure that staircase thing is actually turning. If you actually look you can see there are people standing in one place and they are still spinning. Even though they aren't walking.
Lol. He said 'shutterspeed' instead of 'framerate'... ohhh, the nostalgia
I love that elevator in Prague! They're called paternoster, they used to be more common, and now only a handful are still operational. I used to love to take my visiting friends and family to check out the one near Kino Lucerna. But I think these days it's closed for tourists
I was definitely coming to the comments to write a little something to help that lady out because if anyone should know to do the research and not just assume it was a meaningless lawsuit, it should've be Leon 😕
There was a Paternoster lift in St Thomas's Hospital, London, in, at least the 70's.
As 15 year olds, we had races on wheelchairs to get on to an up and down lift simultaneously!
Great fun and just wait until you get to the top before it goes over and comes down again...😉
I'm feeling "whoa dude" for most of these.
The staircase is from the San Siro/Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan
that is a pretty accurate representation of moderately tripping...
Trust me, Leon. You can control your trips on most psychedelics. Also there are things that can kill your trip if you want to. Multivitamins kill acid trips, for example.
Leon, if you want to experience pyschs for a very short time. Dmt is the way to go. It lasts 5 minutes and you completely sober back up in about 10 minutes. Its amazing and the most beautiful experience one can have
Nice to see the Rocketeer getting some love, I was about 7/8 when that came out. Still love it.
Saw that Lush Life pop up and immediately changed my content viewing. Good stuff!!
legend
I know that everyone else is defending the coffee lady, but just add it to that as well… If it hasn’t already been said. In the case it was proven that the coffee was a lot hotter than it should’ve been, and her pantyhose literally melted to her skin. It really makes me upset that so many people villainized a poor old lady, because we believed the lies that corporate McDonald’s spread to dox her.
We need the update video when he does the research on that McDonald's case and realizes that he was very wrong
an elevator like that would be a MASSIVE liability. That could only exist in a private residence where the public isn't allowed or if they are allowed then they have to sign some kind of waiver absolving the owner of any liability for injuries.
Had them at the college I went to in the UK, slight difference though, they didn't have the hand rails.
Much more efficient moving large numbers of students round an 8 story building than normal lifts (elevators).
Safer than you'd think looking at them for the first time.
LOVE THE ROCKETEER!! Such an underrated movie
We used to have that nonstop elevator at a local hospital (idk if it's still there), I was never brave enough to try it.
Dude the woman who burned herself with the hot coffee actually did get 3rd degree burns and needed medical attention after words for the burns. McDonald’s did a smear campaign all over the news to make her look like she was doing it for the money. Honestly it was probably some asshat employee that boiled the coffee and didn’t care. She took a sip, was shocked by how hot and the shock made her fling the coffee towards her. In a shock response you can’t really control that. It’s better to be cautious with the label anyway. Doesn’t really matter though. I do agree litigation in this country is ridiculous. This case surprisingly wasn’t
Bro have you seen the burns that lady got from the coffee, absolutely brutal
Mr. Lush, I'm sorry sir, but every fact that you said about the coffee burning that woman was incorrect.
If you're having a hard time understanding the humming bird speed, look at a flashing light and close your eyes just before it turns off and open them after it turns on, it'll look solid because your "shutter speed" is now low enough. cameras work the same way, they blink, just really really fast.
Socks have been knocked off with that opening from Ms. Lush
I felt like I was on acid again watching that one crazy effect video
The whole point of the floating bridge video was the car in the background that crashes and falls in.
Just checking the comments to see how many people correct him about the coffee story lol Not disappointed.
That is the most accurate video description of tripping on lsd ive ever seen no you dont see hands grabbing at you or shit that isnt there. Like the movies have you think. The floor is not gonna turn into lava.
The boardwalk is the grain of the wood that changes .
Third degree burns in her privates? Not about labels. And I grew up in the 1980s (born ‘78) and my dad had been an attorney…that case was so publicized but also really truncated to make it more ridiculous and sensational. The actual case was valid and tragic. Look for the photos 👀
Yeah, watched a documentary about it on Hulu I think...McDonald's tried to do her dirty, I think the coffee was like 380 degrees or something crazy like that.
You should look up the video of the guy who found a huge bristle worm in his aquarium; he accidentally cuts it in half so you have these two huge segments wriggling around in his tank.
My guy just a called a house sparrow a humming bird 😂
My husband and I have dropped lsd and we loved it!!! You gotta have someone there with you the first time that has already done it, cause they are level headed enough to calm you down if you start having a bad trip!! Someone you trust, ya know!!
7:20 man I want ALL OF THESE furnitures
Thumbs down for perpetuating the absolute defamation that woman has received for the coffee lawsuit. Do better Leon.
No
Drugs like LSD can be very therapeutic. People also think that drugs like that make you lose your mind and all control over decision making. It does not. I wouldn’t drive a car or go to work on them, just like I wouldn’t do those things drunk. I honestly believe alcohol impairs your judgement way more than psychedelics do. I’m not advocating the use of illegal drugs, but used correctly they can be life changing.
I've heard a lot of great things about DMT the last 3 - 6 months. Never heard of it before and then ALL my stoner friends be talking about how they met kind eldwritch beings who cured their depression and told them the steps to achieving their dreams - in 15 or less!
It's super interesting how drugs can open up the mind to insane self-healing and growth
the Rocketeer was and still is a great movie :P
As someone who has done too much acid. This is pretty damn accurate
its scary how good that was done.
All I know is I’m waiting for my skydiving video from the Lush family 😂
You refer to the 'hot coffee lawsuit' & insinuate that it was a frivolous lawsuit. You might change your mind if you knew a few facts about the case, known as Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants. In Feb of '92, 79 year-old Stella Liebeck purchased a cup of coffee & was burned when the coffee spilled. Here are some little-known facts:
- Between 1982 & 1992, McDonalds had received over 700 reports of people burned by their coffee to varying degrees of severity, & had settled scalding injury claims to the tune of more than $500,000.
- Ms. Liebeck spilled the (overly hot) coffee onto her lap & it scalded her badly. She went into shock & was taken to an ER, where she was found to have suffered third-degree burns on her thighs, buttocks & groin. She remained hospitalized for 8 days, & needed skin grafting. During this period, she lost 20lbs (nearly 20% of her body weight) reducing her to 83lbs. After the hospital stay, she required care for 3 weeks, suffered permanent disfigurement, & was partially disabled for 2 years.
- Liebeck initially sought $20,000 to cover her actual & anticipated expenses. McDonald's offered only $800. On Aug 18, 1994, applying the principles of comparative negligence, the jury found McDonald's 80% responsible. They awarded Liebeck $200,000 in compensatory damages, reduced by 20 percent to $160,000. They also awarded her $2.7 million in punitive damages, arriving at this figure from Morgan's suggestion to penalize McDonald's for 2 days of coffee revenues, about $1.35 million/day.
Those elevators exist. I embarrassed the hell out of myself with one of those in the Amsterdam police station in '93.
The rocketeer definitely isnt for kids brother its pretty violent 😂😂 but one of my alltime faves too
A great time on shrooms led me to my backyard where I laid deep inside elvish lands in World of Warcraft. Top tier❤
Fun fact, I recently found out the Law Firm I work for represented the McDonalds hot coffee lady
Didn't see a mention on the comments that seems to have one important detail missing: She in the beginning, only sued McDonald's for the amount of the hospital bill not covered by insurance. That's when the whole can of worms got opened and they escalated the issue.
There's a floating bridge here in Vermont, I'm not sure that it's still open to vehicle's though. The last time I drove over it was probably 20 years ago.
First year I went to Glastonbury, my friends boyfriend took A LOT of substances on the day we got there. He saw a rabbit in a field and spent the ENTIRE festival in his tent “hiding from the killer rabbit”. That was an 8hr hot car journey, muddy trudge and £250 down the (rabbit) hole.
Already was cool on the first one. Reminded me of when the boys and I used to go cliff jumping at a lake out here.🎉
She waa seeved coffee hot enough to make her need skin grafts I'm so glad people are defending her!
Hot coffee lady was actually an elderly passenger and the coffee was well over 180°F, she had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her elderly lady bits and went into shock. No one was trying to take advantage of anyone.
PS, psychedelics have traditionally been used over millennia for religious rituals. There's a lot of history of the Hebrews and psilocybin mushrooms. Of you want a quick trip, try DMT 15-20 minutes, called a "business trip"
EVERY SINGLE COMMENT BETTER BE DEFENDING THAT PLD LADY THAT GOT BURNED LEON YOU NEED TO DO A WHOLE VIDEO APOLOGIZING AND EDUCATING THE FACT ABOUT THE CASE.
Ok, I decided to pause and blaze a blunt before viewing when you said you should be on that one spelled out word. Let's go 😂
A great comedian Chris Porter has a bit about idiots and warning labels. " Do not assist in child birth with this ski." And I love the 90's references. Shit I get. I gave up on what they say is "cool" these days. I managed a burger king and had mostly teenage staff and I felt so old when I didnt get my references.
@Leon look the coffee thing up. I bet you'll be surprised how it akshually turnt out.
Look into that coffe-story more, and stop retelling it like that. It makes her sound like a B.
