BOSS PH-3 Phase Shifter EOL - Regulator & CPU Failure

A poke around a Boss phaser pedal which sadly was beyond repair, but to bring it back I attempted a 3.3v regulator bodge. Got the scope out to find missing clock signals due to CPU damage likely caused by the original regulator's explosion! In probably 20 dead or faulty guitar pedals I've bought, this is the first that couldn't be fixed.

Nice explanation. Did you try testing with a guitar just for assuring you didn’t miss another detail?

I think I put the signal generator through it maybe but yeah, completely dead

Is this a problem with all boss digital pedals, or from specific years of manufacturing?

Can't honestly answer that. I don't know what caused the regulator to be blown so violently. Could've been user error, wrong power supply etc.
