    From knifesteelnerds...
    “SPY27 has similar obtainable hardness to S35VN and similar corrosion resistance to S30V. The toughness is very close to S35VN. The microstructure confirms somewhat reduced carbide content relative to S35VN, S30V, and S45VN. The steel appears to be relatively well balanced and should do well for Spyderco.”

      Agreed 110%! It really should do well. Especially considering how well the maxamet did when it was released... And you can't even cut a strawberry with it without having to immediately wipe it off lol.🍻

      Based on the info at knifesteelnerds and zknives, it looks like Super Gold light, or Elmax extra-light, or M390 extra-extra-light. A Goldilocks steel that won't outperform any heavyweights. The real question is how much of the processing savings on Spyderco's side are going to end up in consumers' pockets.

    • @brianjohnson1519
      @brianjohnson1519 4 года назад +2

      Mike O'Brien the SPY 27 Manix 2 LW retails for $3 less than the S110 version, so they aren’t passing any savings, they’re charging a premium for it.

    • @Omniseed
      @Omniseed 4 года назад +1

      @@brianjohnson1519 well that's no good, aside from easier sharpening and better toughness I can't see a reason not to go with the S110V. That's the Manix2LW version I have as a jacket knife. It's light and flat and so it does well clipped to the inner pocket

    Para3LW, Spy27, Cobalt Blue color is amazing. It has an extraordinarily balance btw. lightness & durability. The wire-clip retention is perfect, as well, ease of in & out of pocket. I’m hoping the “Mysterious Spy Blade” will exceed our expectations and give the Bugout run

    I can't wait until the cut test channels tell us that this is basically another S30V-class steel, which I'm pretty sure is what Knife Steel Nerds said on his blog. Hopefully the price comes down to around $110-120ish on Amazon. I mean, the whole point of SPY27 is that it'll lower the BOM for Spyderco. It'd be pretty crap if SPY27 knives cost MORE than the S30V equivalents.

      almost 12 dollars I agree if you can get the g10 with sv30v for around 140 bucks the lightweight in spy 27 should be around 110$ or 130$ at most
      Still better than the bugout imo tho

      This is why I can't believe bd1n hasn't taken off more. It sharpens like a soft budget steel but performs almost as well as s30v at a fraction of the price. No point in coming out with steels that are similarly to a steel you've been using for years

    After reading all the various articles about this steel, and watching/reading the few reviews I've been able to find.. I cant help buy ask, "why".
    It 's like Spyderco was trying to fix an issue no one was having. I can't imagine that RD for a new steel is cheap, so why do it just to create something that's basically the same as something that already exists?
    It feels like they did it JUST so they would have a new steel to make sprint runs of, and thus charge more for.

  • @chestrockwell3491

    How come this knife cannot be found anywhere for purchase? It’s almost Nov for Gods sake. I suspect massive QC problems associated with blade centering and unacceptable action found in other Para 3 LWs due to using a single washer and half of a compression lock.

      Agree to disagree. To me, the normal P3 is just a weird less good shrunken PM2. The P3LW is probably my favorite knife, although it's a fucking bitch to get tuned just right lol. They say it’s a new steel but let’s be serious here. It’s got nothing going for it that separates it from regular S30v or S35vn to justify the price increase. In fact, Spy27 was introduced to keep production costs down that they could pass on to the customer. Lmfao, and yet they look to be advertising it as some type of new super steel that’s superior to S30v and S35vn. It better double the edge performance numbers and be just as tough as 1095 for it to be worth anything, otherwise why bother with it vs S30v or S35vn. 140$ plus tax for a plastic scale 3” blade knife. No thanks. Another fail by Spyderco that will still sell out to the easily manipulated fanboys.

      It takes a loooooong time to get the feel for a steel. And people looking for a review of the newest Para 3 because this one interests them and the others didn’t may have not seen a full Para 3 review. Please take my original reply in the sarcastic tone it was intended. “This review is useless” doesn’t fall under “constructive criticism.” In your world, I guess I’d spend two minutes talking about the steel that no one has any experience with yet and then point them to an old review and make them watch that where I talk about the other Steel for a third of the time? I review knives for everyone. Not just people who already know everything about every model.
