    In this video i go into great detail on how to build a set of closed in stairs for an outdoor treated deck. The total height is 48", so i will have 6 risers at 8" and 5 treads at 10 1/2".

    Thanks Craig, awesome video. Thanks for posting! Since a nominal 2x8 is actually 7.25" I chose to make my riser cut at 7.25". In my area this will meet code whereas the 8" riser will not. I understand this is not the case for everyone.

    I love your videos, I built my entire pool deck based on them! The only thing I need clarification on is on the stringers, you take off the extra 1 1/2 inches on the last riser but how do you measure for the tail cut?

  • @yangyang-et9wn
    @yangyang-et9wn 5 лет назад +1

    this stringer is way more stronger then cutting angles to weaken that ramp.

    I'm having difficulty understanding why the 9" cut at the top should be 9".
    You said it was to be for the finished deck height but you placed it at the top of the framing rim board.
    When you put the deck boards on and also place the tread on ( 2-By material ) it will still be 9" for the first step.
    Am I wrong???

    • @Deckbuilding
      @Deckbuilding  3 года назад

      In some of the decks i build the decking is on top of the framing and overhangs. In that case the finish cut on the top part of the stringer would be 8 1/2" because of the thickness of the 1" decking. In this video the the deck boards have a 2x10 border that covers the decking. So the finish floor is flush with the top of the framing considering the 2x10 border is the framing.

      After looking at the video again, I see that the deck boards are indeed recessed to be level with the band boards. It threw me for a loop as I am going to build top mounted deck boards with an overhang.
