- sights on the early cap n ball revolvers were not that great. they can serve as a good sight system for target of hunting with a few simple tricks to bring them more in line with modern sight pictures. In this video i will be talk on how the sights came about in historic times and how we can improve them to better serve in hunting or trips to the shooting ranges.
Very informative. Actually one of the few things I can truly say "I did not know that."
Awesome video, we really enjoy watching you and gaining knowledge!
Sometimes things irritate me just a little bit for no reason. Have a great spring. My first Black Powder revolver arrived in the mail yesterday, an 1860 Colt. Have a great spring.
thanks
I am new to cap and ball revolvers. I am enjoying the learning process. Thanks, Blackie!
Another consideration for blackpowder is cleaning. Adjustable sights would need to be cleaned under or corrosion would occur.
Blackie, Great Video and outstanding information, I never shot a cap and ball pistol, but one day hope to have one. Thanks again. You Are The Master Woodsman and Bushcrafter and passing on the knowledge and craft. Tim L.
Blackie, you're very knowledgeable on 19th century hand guns. Very informative. Thank you.
Hello Blackie, awesome percussion revolver video series as always sir. Iam interested in the PERCUSSION REVOLVER SEMINAR if you ever set it up, it would be quite a welcome change to meet people that share our same interest plus nothing beats being out there in nature. Thank you again sir, be safe.
Well said and explained Blackie
Great video as always Blackie, very smart thinking on the sight mods. Would like to do that when I get my revolver. Thank you.👍
Interesting history Blackie, thank you.
That's awesome information. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Surface reflecting light on front sight ? Was that why Alvin York always licked his fingers
and wet his front sight on his rifle before he shot? Well that was what Gary Cooper told us.
I need to get my rem. Back out again.
I have thoroughly enjoyed your Black Powder revolver series. But I have one comment. It is Patridge not Partridge front sight. Most people make this mistake. We, all of us have a tendency to see what we think a printed word is rather than how it is actually spelled.
you are correct
A comment just to help a good creator!
I just might make this modification. I seem to throw a fairly wide group and find it hard to easily pick up the front bead.
Doesn't filing down the front sight, raise your point of impact? These guns already shoot pretty high, out-of-the-box
Colts are mostly notorious for that problem, the purpose of filling a flat spot allows for a greater angle of light to avoid glare. It also helps keep a consistent sight picture as opposed to a rounded front sight that changes your point of reference at each shot. It took me awhile to learn this power, it cannot be learned from a Jedi… too uncivilized lolzs
very cool blackie
Hi Blackie, I have an old Arime San Paolo 1860 army. I just got some new nipples for it, fortuniately it takes the Pieata brand
thread pitch. But I have noticed even though it physically fits the caps are too close to the frame face and it binds. I think the cones are a little thicker and are causing this. Have you ever run into this problems and if so, how did you fix it? Thanks a lot!
Blackie. If I was normally using .454 round balls in my 1851 And I wanted to use some kaido conical for hunting what would your recommend. 451 or 454? Even if I loaded the cyil off of the revolver.
Do you find any difference between using the lands or the groves when shooting conicals?
Yeppers!!!
I just take a candle and smoke my front sight all around
Yeah the "stroll" out in the street over a pocket watch lost in a poker game idea came from James B. Hickock... That wasn't dueling. That was a flat out gun fight😂
They smoked the whole top of the barrel to cut the glare in competition.
2 dislikes? OoOoh.. Blackie..whatdya do?
I've been thinking about putting a tritium/fiber optic front sight on my 1860. I know it's not traditional but I'm looking for practical as this is the only legal means of protection I have access to. Any thoughts or tips?
Now that you've said this I can't help but think about how cool it would be to have a pimped out cyberpunk style 1860 or 1858 revolver
@@marblemarble7113 I'm actually trying to design a plate to mount a small picatinny rail to so I can run a micro light/laser..if it's even possible.
