My take on ExpressLRS. There are 4 main benefits of it: 1. High-performance, 2. Inexpensive, 3. Versatility (with both 2.4Ghz and 900Mhz capabilities), 4. Open Source. If I were just starting out in FPV, I'd go with the RadioMaster Tx12 with the standard module bay (or TX16 if my budget permits) and any of the ExpressLRS modules and receivers available in the links below. Great video Tmac it was very clear all the information u have giving us for the installation when I'm ready to do it I will take a look again on this video thanks 😊.
I don't know why 2.4ghs is making such a comeback. When I started a year and a half ago all the big names in this hobby was running 915mhz Crossfire. Now they seem to be doing 2.4ghz Tracer and ELRS. I just ordered my BetaFPV 915mhz ELRS nano module and a receiver. I like the penetration of my Crossfire. I can fly all the way around the building I work in, which is a carbon fiber shop and a machine shop. The building itself, plus the contents of the building should block the signal but it doesn't. This is a large 6 unit building. I love that reliability. I also love the $16 per receiver price tag for ELRS receivers over the $36 price of the Crossfire receivers.
Well said 👍The 2.4ghz "craze" these days is due to LoRa protocol. However, I also prefer the penetration of 809mhz band. In my newest video (RadioMaster Zorro), I explain basically the same thing you just stated. I've got the 2.4ghz ELRS version of Zorro and also put a 900 Mhz band ELRS module on it ruclips.net/video/pYJ1XduQVc0/видео.html I'm definitely with you on receiver cost too!😉👍
Hi, I have a question? I Flash my R9M 2018 ACCST Module to ELRS and it working. My (Frsky R9 slim+ ACCST) died two days before in a crash. I just order (FrSky R9 Slim+ OTA ACCESS), will is be possible to install ELRS firmware to be compatible with my R9M 2018 ACCST Module? Which RX ELRS firmware should I use? R9Slim+ (ACCESS/OTA): r9slim_plus_ota_elrs_bl.frk (18kb) or R9Slim+ (ACCST): r9slim_plus_elrs_bl.frk (14kb) My Module is the R9M 2018 ACCST Module that I have install ExpressLRS. thanks
Do you have any instructions for setting up Logical Switches and Track Plays in Opentx to provide audible warnings when LQ and RSSI drop below safe levels? Similar to what you recommended for Crossfire. I'm setting up my 1st ELRS quad and so far so good following your playbook. Thanks
Great video TMac. I have updated the firmware on the Happymodel external module, however, my LUA script isn't working. Every time i click LUA on radio, i get the (Loading....???). I have removed LUA scripts and downloaded it again but i'm still getting the (Loading..???). I have been on ELRS website reading the troublshoot page, their facebook group, etc. but i still can't get the Lua script to work. Also, there are no videos on this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I've got my firmware flashed to both radio and quad, they are both connected, I've updated all my drivers, and am following the proper steps to connect to betaflight. I see my fc port in betaflight but it will only connect half the time and when it does connect I'm unable to do anything but look at the first pop up screen (Setup). When I click on ports or any other category on the left I just get a loading wheel saying "waiting for data". Do you have any advice on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Enjoyed your video, I'm new to FPV. Actually I'm new to all of this, but I'm looking at getting into Fpv with one of my planes. I have a Aero Scout and just got a Goblin. I purchased a RadioMaster TX12, which I still haven't quite got a "grip" on programing this critter, lol, but I would like your opinion on which module should I get, I watched your video on FPV equipment but I'm not sure as to which module I should buy. ELRS or Crossfire? What size , nano, micro....? Thanks for the help
Welcome to FPV. Danny! Nice choice on transmitter. 👍I prefer a 900 Mhz control signal myself for better penetration when flying through and around objects such as trees, buildings, etc. So, I'd go with either the TBS Crossfire Mico module or the 915mhz (if in U.S.) version of ELRS. Although for flying fixed wings, you're gonna need PWM, correct? Check out this Matek 2.4ghz PWM ELRS receiver www.defiancerc.com/products/matek-elrs-r24-p-expresslrs-2-4ghz-pwm-receivers . Crossfire is more established at this point than ELRS and I've never had any issues with it. It's "worry free." ELRS is the "newcomer," however I expect it to become "the standard" very quickly. That's because the receivers and modules are less expensive than Crossfire, it's open source, and it's advancing rapidly. I have both Crossfire & ELRS. Crossfire also has a PWM receiver here pyrodrone.com/products/tbs-crossfire-6ch-pwm-nano-rx IF I were just starting out in FPV today, I'd go with 915mhz ELRS, but not sure if ELRS has 900 Mhz PWM for you yet. ELRS is slightly more work right now to get started with it but you'll save a lot of $ in the long run. My recommendations & rationale are on this page of my site tmacfpv.com/fpv-transmitters/
Thankyou for the video. My ELRS csrf shot is not working, when i increase packate rate it suddenly comes "attempt to compare number with nil" message I put the correct ELRS.lua file even didnot solve Anyone have idea how to solve this?
Nice tutorial, but all that to get it up and running? 😳😳 I feel like I got lucky now. Bought module for my tango 2 and installing it was hardest part. It said came preinstalled with v2. The mobula 7 elrs quad also came v2 preinstalled. So all I did was put lua script on my radio...copied from website. That was it. I have no experience yet with the Elrs configurator. I don't understand why I didn't have to install any firmware on my radio tho? 🤔

Hi Tmac, thanks for all your work is a great help for everyone . I’m having trouble with the telemetry with ExpressLRS 2.4? I can only get it to find 10 sensors: (1RSS, 2RSS, RQly, RSNR, ANT, RFMD, TPWR, TRSS, TQly, TSNR) I already tried updating the RX and TX to the latest firmware with the telemetry option, I also deleted all sensor and discover new sensor, and also increase the Packet Rates but still doesn’t seems to work, any suggestions? could it be that I’m missing configurating something in betaflight?
1. Enable telemetry (toggle it on in Betaflight) as shown in this video at about 24:50 time mark. 2. Enable Advanced telemetry must be enabled for both the RX and TX firmware. 3. Try with Hybrid Switches enabled if not already done - see Enable Telemetry section here www.expresslrs.org/1.0/quick-start/firmware-options/

to my knowledge the baud rate is not selectable on the TX16S. I do not know for certain what the default baud rate is. ExpressLRS is supposed to automatically switch to the correct rate being used by the transmitter on power up. Are you not getting the desired packet rate for your ELRS signal? To get high packet rates you need to be on OpenTx 2.3.12 (at least) or EdgeTX. www.expresslrs.org/1.0/quick-start/tx-prep/ I use the ELRS 900 mhz band. My packet rate only goes to 200 hz. I'm able to change my packet rate by pressing System button, paging over to Tool menu. Scroll down to ELRS LUA script & press Enter. first line that appears is Pkt rate. Short press Enter and it should start flashing. Use scroll bar to change Pkt rate then press Enter again. Press Return button to escape from Lua script.
