They wanted something that was cost effective and low maintenance and thereby pushed the small label Hip-Hop genre that has evolved into what we see today. Once the genie was out the bottle on explicit/violent language, all music with meaningful lyrics and song composition in the R&B genre went bye-bye.
Maurice White was deep into Egyptology. Their hits were fantastic but the deep cuts showed their awareness and understanding of a deeper chord. Not just album covers..
