- The idea of what we know today as India was sown by the Rishis of yore. This seed was watered by countless kings and sages until it took firm roots at the time of Sri Krishna. Its full efflorescence however took place with the advent of Sri Aurobindo on the national scene. This blossoming of the seed of India is the subject of discussion in this talk. It is focused on the concept of the Indian Nation as revealed to us by our great ancestors. However, this knowledge of the greatness of our past should not become a chain for our march towards a yet greater and luminous future as foreseen by Sri Aurobindo.
About the Speaker:
Dr Alok Pandey is a retired Wing Commander from the India Air Force. He is a medical doctor by profession, a poet at heart and philosopher by temperament and a disciple of Sri Aurobindo. who presently resides at the Sri Aurobindo ashram for the practice of Integral Yoga. He has authored a few books and writes and speaks over a number of subjects.

(शांकरभाष्य, गीताप्रेस पृ. 262) - पश्य आदित्यान् द्वादश, वसून् अष्टौ, रुद्रान् एकादश, अश्विनौ द्वौ, मरुतः सप्तसप्तगणा ये तान्, बहुनि अन्यानि अपि अदृष्टपुर्वाणि मनुष्यलोके त्वया अन्येन वा केनचित् पश्य आश्चर्यणि अनेकानि भारत।
तैंतीस कोटि देवता-
8 अष्टवसु - धर, ध्रुव, सोम, विष्णु, अनिल, अनल, प्रत्युश्च, प्रभास।
11 एकादश रुद्र - हर, बहुरूप, त्रयम्बक, अपराजित, वृषाकपि, शम्भू, कपर्दी, रैवत, मृगव्याध, शर्व, कपाली।
12 आदित्य - धाता, मित्र, अर्यमा, शक्र, वरुण, अंश, भग, विवस्वान, पूषा, सविता, त्वष्टा, विष्णु।

33 कोटि अर्थात् श्रेणी- (गीता साधक संजीवनी, गीता प्रेस, पृ. 748-749)

(शांकरभाष्य Adi Shankaracharya’s commentary, गीताप्रेस पृ. 262) - पश्य आदित्यान् द्वादश, वसून् अष्टौ, रुद्रान् एकादश, अश्विनौ द्वौ, मरुतः सप्तसप्तगणा ये तान्, बहुनि अन्यानि अपि अदृष्टपुर्वाणि मनुष्यलोके त्वया अन्येन वा केनचित् पश्य आश्चर्यणि अनेकानि भारत।
The verse is from Gita - 11th chapter, 6th verse. The bold letters joined together called This has been explained by Sri Adi Shankaracharya in his commentary. ‘Samaasa’ (समास) has been done to indicate these devtas are of same category/type.
मरुत is another category. It has 49 devtas.
In the 11th chapter of Gita, Sri Krishna showed Arjun His divine form. In this verse(6th) Sri Krishna says - Look Arjun, twelve Aditya, eight Vasu, eleven Rudra and two Ashwini brothers.
In Mahabharat - Adi Parva, 65th & 66th chapter - is given names of Aditya and Vasu.
In Harivamsha, first Parva - 3rd chapter - is given names of eleven Rudra.
Koti (कोटि) means category/ type.

Not all so called Hindus are liberal. Sri Aurobindo talked about Sanatan Dharma not the orthodox Hinduism To deal with the societal ills came the renaissance came. We should beware of the ills of dogmatism

Sorry I deleted my previous comment, because I want you to start with easier ones , synthesis of yoga and the essays on the Geeta. I am saying this because i could not complete life divine. That book is quite difficult. Still if you want to learn about it you can watch channel named integral studies. Tv. Sraddhalu Ranade ji has made series about that book.

I shall recomend you to start with listening from the channel called auromaa ( both Hindi and English)
And sraddhalu Ranade .
And then one life time is too less to complete the teachings of Sri Aurobindo but it shouldn't stop us from starting because the grand journey is of the delight of the divine ...
