I belatedly realised that the Peak was vacuum-braked only, I was relieved when the exhausters kicked in when I selected 'Vac Pass', it's not a given these days that the exhausters will work on a mainline-registered heritage loco! A great day that ended in the pub, trebles all round! 😁
This is why peak rail needs more than just 1 loco to run the passenger trains, because if D8 broke down, like what happened at this time, there isn’t another loco to run the trains.
