President’s Speaker Series: An Evening with George Yeo

- At the President’s Speaker Series public lecture held on 10 March 2021, Mr George Yeo cited Yale-NUS College’s unique approach of seeking out commonalities while respecting diversity. He highlighted that it was important that Singapore continues to adopt such an approach when promoting international cooperation in the region. He also spoke on current issues such as the ongoing Myanmar crisis, United States-China relations, and Singapore's response to COVID-19.
The President’s Speaker Series was launched in 2013 to enable the Yale-NUS community and those beyond to learn and engage with accomplished and influential experts on a diverse range of disciplines including contemporary world issues.
Mr George Yeo is the Senior Adviser to both Kuok Group and Kerry Logistics Network and previously served in the Singapore government as Minister for Information and the Arts, Health, Trade & Industry, and Foreign Affairs.
Mr George Yeo is so intellectually insightful and hit the mark with every point, on the West/US, on the pandemic, on Human Rights and on Myanmar. One of the great leaders in this century. This discussion can be considered a watershed and a great talking point thats relevant and crucial moving forward.

Thank you NUS for such a great Content. Mr. George is indeed a very strong leader with in-depth clarity with the world issues, China-US relationship and even Myanmar issue. I just ended watching LHL interview on BBC today. That too was amazing. Singapore leaders(ex) are indeed based on facts.
However I hope the first NUS student who asked question, could be more aware of what is going on around, facts based awareness like our ministers(ex). Especially staying away on Western propaganda about China and Islamic-phobia. Especially he is in the degree program that related to global affair.... Travel more please, and see with your own eyes...walk the ground and get the facts...

Deep respect for this man. I had always felt that his loss in Aljunied together Ong Ye Kung was a net loss for Singapore. I would rather LTK exit then both of them. Looking at the contributions of Ong Ye Kung and this man compare to LTK now. I mean, what has LTK done to match them? Ng Chee Meng exit ok but not this one. We let a big fish loose into the sea from the fishing net.
I am certain Singapore will be a better place for all of us if we can have the old good George back in Singapore politics.

I remember a speech from Phillip Yeo, he was stressing about the importance of communication. He was saying something like if you cannot tell him clearly in 5 or 10 mins, he would throw you out of the office. That speech gave me a PTSD for life.

Still remember the time in parliament when Tan Cheng Bock was lambasted by George Yeo when Tan insisted the government should have policies that put SIngaporeans first. Mr Yeo can only narrate what had happen with a relatively factual view but short of The US losing stance on the world stage especially in the Hegemonic behaviour. The Yanks are frantically shivering at their last breath of Hegemony with fail sanctions to outright sanctions on any opposition to their demand.

We all know that Mr Yeo left politics because he lost the Aljunied GRC election. It was so sad to lose him. I suspect it is people like you who chose to vote for the wrong party which rewarded its supporters with over $30 millions.
@@arcencielc2065 my buddy was an active grassroot leader in Aljunied GRC during Mr Yeo's time. Support in his ward was fine but the 2 female MPs (one was a minister) were hugely unpopular, even with the grassroots leaders.. so much so that one them even joined the opposition.

All Singaporeans r expected to wear masks. We have tokens for safe entry. We observe safe distancing. We r protected with testing, contract tracing n vaccination
Yeo is being overrated understandably by his students here as if he were a professor. He is a good thinker no doubt, but not necessarily an effective politician and leader. He was ejected from Aljunied by LKY - read carefully what LKY did on the eve of polling day - which many would disagree cos they are shallow. Not unlike how Heng SK was thrown to EC hyenas during the last GE for reason LHL & Heng know best.Heng quitted on his own latter. He knew then he was not meant to be. I would say LKY pulled the rug beneath Yeo's feet to hurriedly make way for the nascent Workers' Party known as the Wanyang Party in the old man's secret plan of nurturing a stronger but controlled opposition for Spore like what you see in WP and Pritam Singh today. To summarise: LKY said, " we got the admin, exec and the judiciary. His son followed up with : Dad, I got them all ; now I got the Opposition. LKY started the ball rolling, his son got it started....finally. but no domesticated cheetah can beat a wild cheetah in speed and ferocity whc make for pedigree performance. I am not from Singapore and I have been wondering as to why he was voted out of office? What a waste!

As you know, singapore hardly has any credible opposition party. The biggest opposition party put all their eggs in one basket and competed against Mr Yeo's constituency. The opposition will be voted out 100% if they lose, while ruling government will still be in power even if Mr Yeo was to lose. Therefore voters in fear of having no opposition in the parliment, more voter for them to keep opposition alive.
What About the Problem of Inequalities of Means and Distribution of Means of Survival and Unsustainable Population Growth Under Climate Changes in the World ? How is "Criminalty" Defined Human Rights And "Racism" = Cultural Practises of Legacy of History !
