    Hello again young man, a few tips for you.
    1. When driving your tractor's, never ride the clutch! Always put your left foot on the tread plate otherwise you will cause premature wear to the clutch disc. What you are doing is pressurizing the clutch pressure plate which allows the clutch disc to momentarily slip. This takes the meat off the disc or it can put a glaze on it which makes it less effective.
    2. Hay, the hay you cut in this video is very mature and as such dusty because the seeds have dried out and are ready to fall. The best practice for cutting hay in my opinion is laid out below.
    A. Allow the seed head to form and then dry out but do not let the seed head get too dry and go brown otherwise the grass begins to die back. This results in over dry, dusty hay which is bad to mow, bale and handle.
    B. Cut the hay after 11am in the morning and before 3pm in the afternoon. This allows the Sun to warm the grass up effectively by which time the sugar levels in the grass have risen so when you mow the grass the sugar is trapped in the stalks and it makes it more palatable for livestock to eat and convert into meat of milk. Cutting too soon or too late in the day yields low sugar content and as such poorer quality grass.
    C. Your mowing technique. I always go into a hay field and mow it from the outside in. So, mow with the fence or wall to the left side of the tractor and go around the field three times. Then I take the middle of the field out and then do the final back swath (with the mower up to the fence but not touching it) last of all.

      Yes indeed, riding the clutch isn't a good habit at all.
      Damage risk in doing that.
      Also thanks for explaining when it's the proper time to cut the grass.

      grand father always let the heads of the grass bow over before mowing so the seed drops and refreshes the sward

    I have one. These mowers came out in the 1970's and was the beginning of the end of the sickle bar mowers. They would cut anything standing or not. Never clog and maintenance free. You see how easy to change blades. They basically float on the ground but can cut a bit shorter than you like. No adjustments for cutting height. Quite heavy unit too. They did come with a full deflection apron. Is very risky to mow without one. Zwegger brand mowers.

      You adjust the height of the cut, by using the "draft-Control", which you also do when ploughing !
      But: You are right about the protective skirt, without the protection, You could be Killed by or shot if a Stone comes in your direction. 🇬🇧

  • @truethought369
    @truethought369 26 дней назад

    Yes, those new blades are cutting very well. I am concerned that the "Cutting Drums", should not be used "Without" the metal top cover, it has been removed, also there should be a protective skirt hanging from the top cover!
    I hope You realise? If your blades hit a stone: "You could be killed". Not to mention the Camera man, following on behind the mower???
    Don't use it until the "Guards" are put back on! A little knowledge can be dangerous???
    Stay safe. PS, if the blades hit a stone in your direction: You won't know about it, until it's too late.
    Please take note, I started farming, a long time ago. 👍🇬🇧

      These mowers have been around for 40 years and they came out the same time as the PZ Zweegers HAYBOB which would shake the grass out for drying and then row it back up again before baling in Ireland it would take ar least 4 days of dry weather before u could bale Both are still for sale today and very popular

    Also lads sometimes the clutch pedal is heavy or hard to press therefor it's able to hold the weight of your foot with out it going down. Or engaging

    • @duanedean3256
      @duanedean3256 7 лет назад

      First time you pay and put a clutch in you'll think other wise. Your clutch plate springs and throwout bearing takes the abuse before the clutch disk. Once the clutch disk takes on wear from this then the other two are already shot. Fields are not smooth so the bouncing up and down creates downwards pressure on the clutch from your foot. If you ever have to slip the clutch for any reason then your going way to fast and are actually doing less but it's costing you more. Use a lower gear and use the throttle in turns and such.

      I grew up in the commercial hay farming in northern california -- we used JD's w 7 ft sickelbar mowers before we switched to 14-16' hay swathers - raked it up w tandem 12' reel rakes -- first place I ever saw those drum mowers was when I lived in New Zealand --

      drum mowers are the best but only on flat soil, if you find an anthill or mole heap makes the hey not good for animals.

    Fahr KM 22? We had one of the first Fahr mowers imported into The UK, a KM4 which had 4 small drums instead of 2 big ones and I believe the cutting width was about 5 feet 6 inches. It did not have a skirt either but it had a guard running across the top. Even then my dad had a very lucky escape when the mower picked up a stone and smashed one of the tractor cab's side windows! Dad was unscathed but, as I said, he was lucky. As others have said, they are way too dangerous to use without some sort of stone guard. We used it for many years until it literally fell apart! It was MUCH better than a sickle/cutterbar mower ( It would cut through anything, long thick tangled crops which would leave a cutterbar helpless) but far inferior to the disc mower.which replaced it, Having said that, it was one of the first , there has been a lot of developments since then.e.g. the first round balers were no where near as good as they are now!

    • @Dave77

      Mackeson3 Hi!... I have a Fahr KM 22 mower. But i know that it's risky to use that mower without skirts on it... it's dangerous! Risk of serious Injury... you said about you're dad, and right now, i can understand the risk of this thing!

      same here and there were a lot of strange sounds from that. personally i prefer a disc mower because they are a lot safer and leave a better finish. but i would use a drum mower to cut rushes and dock leafs

    I spent many hour cutting with that mower. When you put the mower into cutting position be out on the end you can't get crushed and have better mechanical advantage to control it. I see what you guys are saying about him riding the clutch, Don't . After your second time around/ cut do a reverse back cut then your grass dries better evenly . Your grass looks light so run it at 540 and just watch your wheel placement. Your only cutting 5 ft 4" if I remember? Our grass had too much clover in it to dry so the rotary was the only thing to cut it! The rotary mower conditioner was the best for cutting and drying the hay! You should be wearing hearing protection. It really looks like your center hitch is too short, the way you are cutting the soil at the 6:52.

    Nice job! What country are you from? Needless to say, the drum mower was invented by the Dutchman Piet Zweegers in Geldrop, and they still build the best drum mowers in the world there!!
    I mow with a Ford 7610 myself and front + rear drum mowers, 5,5m together. Unstoppable combination :)
    Oh and by the way, the people here are quite right about the covers! The drums spin so fast that if they hit a rock, it can hit you in the head killing you instantly!

    • @Dave77
      @Dave77  7 лет назад

      Bikerchic No... Actually we are cutting everything like this. It doesn't really matter about the times when we will cut again. For us, it is important to maintain the field mostly cut, to cut a lot of grass once, so the result will occur in the number of balers.

      Beni Andrei Priza merge incontinuu.
      Doar ca daca nu este cuplata, nu opune forta la rotatie (o poti opri cu mana).
      Maneta de cuplare este cea din partea stanga a soferului sub scaun (aproape de lonjeron).
      Un lucru pe care eu cel putin, l-am observat este ca in momentul cuplarii pornirea prizei se face brusc. Si trebuie avut mare grija pentru ca in mod normal cuplarea se face finut (din ambreiaj).

    It really appears that the drums are set too low. They aren't supposed to grind in or ride constantly on the ground. You can see this especially when cornering and the dirt is shooting out. 3:16 and 6:45 (just a couple of many through out the video). Gonna wear it out out. :-( If the ground was just really uneven in those spots and it bottomed out in a few spots, that's ok, but it really looks like the bottom of the drums were scraping along most of the time.

The code is 15K6, where 15 is the day of the month, “K” represents the month october, and “6” is the year of production, 1966. It cannot be newer since it has the old type of oil filter, the metal one.

MfG, MS

    No safety gear whatsoever, lucky not to be blind or deaf using that mower, I can remember how noisy they were.
