Dr. Schuttler thank you for providing this overview. It helped me have a better understanding compared to reading about field tests. This video provided nuances in which text does not. Is there a scholarly article or text that you recommend that has a protocol regarding a field test?

Thanks for your comment Herman! There are different 'schools of thought' about a field test and who should be included. A Google search for "qualitative research field test' will result in a number of options and Sage Research Methods Online is a great resource as well.

You just describe a subject matter expert review panel not a field test. Field testing and pilot testing is not the same thing as SME validation. Yes, Capella tells their students to call it a field test but it is not a field test. Field testing is the process of testing your interview or focus group questions in the actual setting where it will be used. For example, asking a few individuals from your specific population to do a mock interview to ensure the interview questions are clear and relevant to your population. and this will help you see if you need to add more probing questions. or just add more questions because your interview did not last but 10 or 15 minutes. it should last 30 to 45 minutes

Thanks for reply and insights. Different school of thought. A field test is 'with researchers' to help ensure interview and research questions align to research design applied to ensure one gets the correct data whereas an expert panel (pilot study) is with the 'content SME to ensure correct information is asked.
