Hey sorry to be late to the party but I’m trying to replace my drivers side headlamp and I accessed it, swapped it out, reconnected that power cord and it still doesn’t work. Did your guy gave to reconnect the other end of the power cable assembly? I put the bulb in the power cable and it didn’t work even without reinstalling it in the fixture. Trying not to have to replace the whole damn thing.
Great video. Replaced my passenger side headlight. Very tight quarters. Unfastened the wheel well cover and was able to use my left hand from that access point while my right hand accessed from the top (to left of wiper fluid). (You can't see anything when you do this - so I just used the Force to see it in my mind like Luke training with Obi Wan). Remove the plug from the bulb before you "unclip" the bulb. We mistakenly unclipped the old bulb first and it came out with the plug - but couldn't get the old bulb off. Reinstalled, reclipped and then unplugged leaving the old bulb installed. I'm interested in improving the power of the rear lights. Have attempted a re and re of bulbs in rear lights of 2022 QX60. Is it even possible to change bulbs? It appears to be sealed units. Thx
Officially, there isn't a way to swap between the first gen and second gen QX60s. There isn't even a way to transfer between the original QX60 and the mid model refresh. you are right that they are sealed units, with individual LEDs. The only way I can imagine changing the power of the rear lights is to either have custom ones made, or have them open and have the LEDs changed to larger, more powerful ones. Since I never opened the units, I'm not sure how intensive that is, but I imagine a fair bit of soldering would be required.
Your videos are super helpful thanks -- any chance you have instructions on how to open the engine fusebox if changing the bulb fails (problem could be the ballast or the fuse). Have some recently found some humidity inside the light housing and started having issues with bulb/
Thanks, much appreciated. If you need to access the fuse box (on the left side, called an IPDM by Infiniti), it pulls right out. It looks like a box that's fixed in. But if you release the clips around (3 or 4, if I remember correctly) and gently lift it out, and carefully turn it over, you'll see the fuses on the underside. It's a stupid design to be honest, one of the very few things I don't like with this vehicle. Hope that helps a bit
My 2015 FX60 has some weird fuse box thing in the way of the Driver side and its so difficult to move my hand with it in the way and i have small hands for a dude 😅 i need a vid on how to remove that box first 😂
Sorry, just want to be sure here. Are you asking about the FX35, or QX60? If the QX60, the fuse box is located under that box. You have to remove the latched all around and lift it (carefully) out. The fuses are underneath. A very annoying design!
is there a reason why after swapping out my HID bulb, the new bulb blinks out like the one I just swapped out was doing. so now I think that the bulb was not bad, but something else, any tips?
Hmmm. I would start off by swapping your left and right bulbs. If the one that was blinking still blinks on the other side, then it may be a lemon bulb you got. But if the same side still blinks, then you know for sure it's not the bulb. At that point, the number one thing I would look at is the ballast. The connector that the bulb hooks up to could have an issue too. I would look at those 2 things
Ok I have a bulb out on our 2017 QX60 right side and I ordered the bulb but is not the bulb test the new and old bulb in the working side! Could it be the ballast? and help will be appreciate it thank you!
It can definitely be the ballast, but there are other things too, everything from a wiring issue to a bad/corroded connector. There first thing would say to check before anything else is the headlight fuse. There is a separate one for each headlight. The fuse box is under the hood. If the fuse looks good, if you are good with a multimeter, I would say to check the circuit bit by bit, starting with the connector. Ballasts can go for sure, but I have seen a lot more bad connectors vs bad ballasts, and it would suck to replace the ballast and still be in the same spot.
Honestly, no idea. The 2019 qx60 does not have an integrated bulb. Now, if the turn signal goes, that requires a whole new assembly, since it's all LED integrated. Not sure why they would tell you that though
Thanks for the video! I did my wife's QX60 but instead of going through the top, I went through the wheel well. There are three screws on the outside (they suck by the way as they appeared to be self-tapping so they did not go back in as easily but I managed) that I took off and then pulled back the rubber well liner. From there, his instructions were very helpful and yes, the dust cap was the hardest part. Agree with the other folks that it was much easier than I expected and saved me so money!
Nice! Awesome to see how you changed things up to make it work for you! Great news on getting it done and saving some money! Thanks for the great feedback
Pace and detail of this video are helpful. I actually need to replace the parking lamp; think 5W Bulb No W5W. The video says this process will provide access to any bulbs so I'll dive in and see if I can identify the right way to access the parking lamp/bulb. Thank you
Thank you so much for your video. It saved me a bunch of money. I had to get condensation out of my headlight, so had to take off all of the same stuff. It was a great walk through.
This video is saving me also. I purchased a certified qx60 last year and it came with a "4 year certified warranty " head light started developing moisture inside less than a year. They will not warranty it. They said they have never heard of this happening before and that its $3k for the head light replacement. The scummy dealership is called LIA Infiniti located in Latham NY FYI. Obviously do not recommend them.
One thing for me, my forearms are on the thicker side so I had trouble squeezing in to get the bulb until I took the bolt off that holds the coolant reservoir in place. That one extra inch made the difference. Otherwise, 👍🏾
I hear that. Especially on that side of the car. I don't have the biggest arms by far, and it is a bit tight for me. Glad to hear the video was helpful and you got the bulb changed!
That is a very good question, and one i'm unsure about about. I believe it may work, but i've never tried. However, I would advise against trying it. The HID bulbs are very sensitive, and get hot quickly. The light isn't good for the retinas either. One mistake or accidental drop, not only could it break, it can actually explode. Be cautious for sure.
@@NexusAuto I wasn’t getting any power I feel. I just ordered a ballast and new connection . Great video by the way!! Saved me from taking bumper off to test 🥹☺️
The headlight bulbs are HID, so there is a ballast there to control the electrical output to the bulb. They can fail, but that is rare. Most times it's just the bulb that burns out.
@@NexusAuto You right I just changed my passenger and it worked ! Went ahead and changed both with DMEX D2S looks like thay have good reviews on amazon :) I see OEM japan ballast less than $30 on ebay so not a big deal if i need to replace them
@@silvergameofthrone awesome! Great news that it's just the bulbs. Damn, those ballasts have come down in price. Hopefully it shouldn't be an issue, but good to know that they're so cheap now
When you say QX60, I assume you mean the refreshed front ends from 2016 and up? If so, yes it is technically possibly, but the headlight housing is significantly different. You have to change the whole front end of the car, including Front Bumper.
@@eldersteveharris no problem, sounds good. I did show how to take out the washer fluid neck for the passenger side, but from the dust cap on, that's the driver side.
Great video as always brother, how is it possible your headlights look that clear? Amazing! Ive sanded and polished mines, they look good but as good as yours. Whats the trick? Im also thinking to replace mines with D2S HID 6000K, what are the specs on yours?
Thanks! Much appreciated! Believe it or not, I haven't done anything to the headlights yet, at all. They are still clear and haven't restored them. I will say, since filming this video, the headlights have hated a bit, so I'll have to restore them soon. Also, the bulbs are still the factory for me too. I made the video to show people how to change the bulbs, but haven't has to change mine as of now. So still OE spec!
Need help! Followed the awesome instructions, and the new bulb doesn't work. What did I do wrong? What else could be the problem? The blinkers still work... Thanks.
Hi Marie. There can be a few causes. First and foremost, I would say to check the fuse. There is a fuse for each headlight individually, so check that first (if you haven't already). After that, there really is 4 other things that could be an issue, ultimately 1. The ballast for the HID lights 2. Some wiring has gone bad/been damaged/got chewed/became corroded. 3. The wiring harness that connects to the bulb is bad/burnt/corroded 4. the computer for the car has an issue (although this one is HIGHLY unlikely) There is also the possibility that the new bulb is bad. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. If you have the time, you could swap the bulbs on the left and right side and see what happens. Always good to double check to be sure. Hope this helps
Thanks for the video on changing headlight. My driver side LED headlight went out, dealership said I have to replace entire headlight assembly, is this true? 1900$. Can I just change actual LED bulb?
Excellent video. I have doubts as to which bulb to purchase, would you be able to provide your experience with brands you've used and their respective longevity? Thanks in advance!
HI Celso. Unfortunately, there isn't a bulb I can recommend. Only reason is because I am still using my OEM bulb. I made this video to help others, but I have never changed my bulbs yet. In my description, I did include an amazon affiliate link to a set of bulbs that have a great reviews. But I have not used them yet, since mine are still functional as of now. Hope this helps a little bit
Thanks, appreciate it. Unfortunately, I don't have the specs on the new 2022 QX60s yet, so no idea on how to adjust the high beams. Did you check with the dealer?
@daviddavids-e3y it's not impossible, but it is difficult if you're not used to working blind. Mechanic life does that to someone lol. If you have a Stepladder, try that to see if it can give you a better view. Hopefully you can get it changed
Good point, thank you. On a hunch I removed the front passenger side wheel, then removed the inner fender well. Very easy to do. After that everything was easy to see and easy to reach. Thanks for your videos!
Hello. You can do a drain and fill on the transmission fluid, and you can also flush the Differential as well. I do have videos on both of those procedures that you can check out.
Honestly, that's one of the best compliments that I can receive. I'm happy to hear the videos help out and worked out so well. I appreciate the support!
Great video, Thanks! I would love to see how you take out the other 2 bulbs in that casing, but also I want to upgrade the bulbs to brighter white. Any idea what the numbers are on the bulbs?
I believe the bulbs are D2S hid. I noticed many on Amazon, but not certain of the quality. The factory bulbs are ~5000k white but no bluish. If u want bright white with subtle bluish (my preference) go with 6000k
Thanks for the helpful videos. I'm a new owner of a 2013 JX35 and I'm in the process of my led upgrades. I was wondering why you didn't upgrade your headlights. I'm running into a problem of finding the right led upgrade model. Any insight or advice you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks and keep giving us your helpful videos.
Hello, and thank you for checking out my videos. Glad they are proving helpful. I have not done the headlights yet for the same issue... you cannot just put any old LED on here, due to the ballasts for the HID. There are bulbs out there, but did not actively look yet. Additionally, even if you find an HID compatible one, does not mean it will project well in the housing. The good news is that I plan to tackle exactly this in the future, but it is not the next video I will be making in the next bit. Hopefully I can get to it soon.
Aw damn. Hopefully you were able to since posting this comment. It is tricky to do, and it does involve working and squeezing that clip in place a bit. It may take some working with it. But unfortunately, there's no other special tricks to getting that clip in place
Unfortunately, I don't have a video on the QX50. I pulled this from a service manual...hope it helps 1 . Remove the fender rubber protector in the engine room. Keep a service area. 2. Rotate the resin cap counterclockwise and unlock it. 3. Disconnect the headlamp (LO) bulb connector. 4. Rotate the bulb counterclockwise and unlock it. 5. Remove the bulb from the headlamp housing assembly.
Great news that you've been following my channel! Bad news about your QX60...Sorry to hear that. But I'll definitely have more videos in the future too. Thanks for the support!
Not a dumb question at all! Do you have to? Absolutely yes, for safety measures and to make sure electrical components do not get damaged. I do it without disconnecting the battery, but I take that personal risk. 99 out of 100, everything will be fine. But that 1 time is the worry. Especially when working with electrical ballasts (that power the HID). You don't want a shock from one of those.
Unfortunately, I haven't tested any LEDs for replacement headlight bulbs, so I can't recommend one that I am confident at this point. But I may look into it for the future
Very true. A plastic trim tool is much better. I prefer using the screwdriver for the videos as most people have screwdrivers, not everyone has trim tools. Even so, if someone has a trim tool, it is by far the best way to go! Glad the video was helpful too!
I have one q when changing bulb is high beam different socket bulb r same bulb does both jobs low and high beam please let me know just bought 2015 qx60 trying to change to led bulbs Thanks.
If the fuses and bulb looks good, the next thing I would look at is the ballast. The ballast is what gives the HID its bright discharge. If it fails, the bulb will not work. They do not fail often, but it does happen.
I have a pry tool...tons of them, actually. But these videos are not for people who have opportunities to buy tools they will likely only use once. It's for people who need help only have a couple of things like a screwdriver at their disposal.
very informative. i'm trying to find a reputable mechanic for my qx60 do you do referrals? am in the los angeles area btw, a Philips xenon bulb is $35 on amazon. just got one, but prefer to have someone do it for me
It is really hard to find a good mechanic these days. I do get people coming in, but I'm reaaaaally far from you, on the east coast. Ontario, Canada. If I were local, I would have told you to come by
I haven't tested an LED bulb on these headlights yet. It may or may not work, due to the HID ballasts. So unfortunately, I can't confirm 100% at this time
When changing out these bulbs, did you have a clear line of sight to work like how the perspective is from the camera angle? Or did you just have to feel around back there and hope you are doing it correctly?
A little off topic but do you have any idea if there is a oil change indicator light on the QX60 ? I can't seem to find it on my 2018 , i'd like to know how much percent i have left until an oil change. TIA
No problem at all. There is a place to check the oil life, but you have to remember to reset it every oil change. If you go into info, then maintenance, it will show it as an interval. Unfortunately, you will not see an oil life percentage, like some other cars, just how much mileage you have used since the last oil change

Video is very helpful. I would like to ask, do you have any feedback on the bulbs you have linked in the description above? I ordered a different aftermarket set on Amazon and after doing a little research it appears they don't work with the Infiniti JX35 ballast?... Just wondering if you've used the bulbs you shared the link for personally and if so what are your thoughts? Thanks!
Hi Taresa. This is an excellent question. First, to be honest, I have not used the bulb. I made this video to help people out, but my bulb has not blown (yet). I am still using my original bulbs as of now. So I have not tried the bulbs as of now. When I selected this bulb, I researched many to find one compatible. With the link I attached, I checked the questions and found answers indicating it works for both QX56 and QX60 models (JX35 included). They all use the same ballasts. Based on this information from the seller, I believe it will work. But I have not tested the bulbs for quality, lighting quality, and longevity. I list the bulbs as a helpful link. I hope this helps. I know it may not be the best answer, nor is it completely reassuring, but that is the honest answer.
@@NexusAuto Thank you for your help. With you research I will attempt getting the bulbs from the link and I will let you know what my outcome of them is once they arrive and I get them installed.

This was great. Really saved $200 in labor to replace a $20 part.

Thanks . But why did the dealer told me I have to replace the whole assembly piece . It’s the low beam and high beam bulb . 2019 qx60

I know it may seem obvious or you may have done it already, but check the fuse. If it's ok, then it could be a wiring or HID ballast issue.

Does the bulb need to be sitting inside of the unit for it to be working fully ? Or can I plug it in to the silver connector to see if it works?
That is a very good question, and one i'm unsure about about. I believe it may work, but i've never tried. However, I would advise against trying it. The HID bulbs are very sensitive, and get hot quickly. The light isn't good for the retinas either. One mistake or accidental drop, not only could it break, it can actually explode. Be cautious for sure.

my passenger looks like burned out ... are there are some other electronic or only bulb ?
The headlight bulbs are HID, so there is a ballast there to control the electrical output to the bulb. They can fail, but that is rare. Most times it's just the bulb that burns out.

Hey there, I was wondering to replace the headlight assembly on Jx35 with a QX60 head light design would it be possible to do so?
When you say QX60, I assume you mean the refreshed front ends from 2016 and up? If so, yes it is technically possibly, but the headlight housing is significantly different. You have to change the whole front end of the car, including Front Bumper.

After that, there really is 4 other things that could be an issue, ultimately
1. The ballast for the HID lights
2. Some wiring has gone bad/been damaged/got chewed/became corroded.
3. The wiring harness that connects to the bulb is bad/burnt/corroded
4. the computer for the car has an issue (although this one is HIGHLY unlikely)
There is also the possibility that the new bulb is bad. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. If you have the time, you could swap the bulbs on the left and right side and see what happens. Always good to double check to be sure. Hope this helps
Two thumbs up! 👍👍
Thanks, much appreciated!

May be a dumb question but do I have to disconnect the battery to do this?
Not a dumb question at all!
Do you have to? Absolutely yes, for safety measures and to make sure electrical components do not get damaged. I do it without disconnecting the battery, but I take that personal risk. 99 out of 100, everything will be fine. But that 1 time is the worry. Especially when working with electrical ballasts (that power the HID). You don't want a shock from one of those.
Hi Sir, cery great video. Any led alternative for recommendation?
Unfortunately, I haven't tested any LEDs for replacement headlight bulbs, so I can't recommend one that I am confident at this point. But I may look into it for the future
I would use a plastic trim tool instead of a steel screwdriver so you don't tear up any paint
