Was going to post the same thing. Everything else I’ve seen on these has not been good, with E strings practically hanging off the edge of the fretboard.
I’ve tried a good few new Fender Jazz basses recently, across three vendors - Andertons, GAK and Guitar Guitar. In no particular order... the one with the gold foil pickup had a misaligned bridge, the ’62 reissue with bound neck [looked really good] had a shocking set-up, of the two American Professionals only one was decent, and the two American Performer models were truly horrible - the volume controls went from 10 to 2 in less than a quarter of a turn, the tone controls simply didn’t work, there were swirls on the finish from the buffing machine and the action was HIGH but the bridge saddles were LOW [neck relief okay]... You need to add shims on from-the-factory basses? Seems so. It was like being back in the ‘70s again - the decade when Fender [and Gibson] forgot about quality control. In the end I picked up a second hand Japanese Fender Jazz bass for a fraction of the cost of a new US Fender... and it’s just the ticket. Retailers have a responsibility to check their instruments before putting them in the hands of potential buyers. Of the six basses I played, only one could be classed as sellable, IMO. ……and I’ve always wondered why p-bass shaped basses are still made. The jazz is a far more pleasing shape. So a p configuration in a jazz style shape is fine by me. This combination of colours looks great.
Too many people on here are watching one video from a RUclips bass player and claiming to all of a sudden be an expert on this particular bass series. That bass was handed to other YT channels, so of course they are going to spot the same issue. The one on this video looks and sounds fine.
@10:45 Just a note: tone wood is a myth in electric instruments. It’s not even debatable these days with all the videos out there comparing identical electric instruments who’s only difference is the wood.
I like the sound, and almost bought one, but then all the quality control problems showed up. Fender really has to address the manufacuring issues on this bass. Besides Lobster and Bully, Dave's World of Cool Stuff had to pull the neck off one and fix the frets which were not finished at all. Not to mention having the truss inaccessable in a modern bass is unforgiveable. I live in the country, I don't have a guitar tech I can call on. This damaged the trust factor with Fender
I am not a guitar tech and adjust the vintage truss rod without issue or concerns. I am sure you can. Easier than soldering pickups to be sure. Do not always follow whatever people say online as "facts"-often these are merely opinions. Form your own. My MiM bass was totally fine out of the box. There will be basses with problems considering the amount of instruments Fender puts out. The unfinished frets thing is not even the norm, even on the Gold Foil Jazz bass. The latter could have had bad batches at the factory-many of the basses seem to be fine. Negativity breds even more negativity. For instance, there seems to be no output problems on the E on the above bass, yet many are "hearing" the lack of output the other reviewer had on Bully's bass. Easy to pile on criticism. Again, the vintage truss rod is an stylistic thing. It's utterly "forgivable" by *Fender*; perhaps not so much if done by any other manufacturer. It is not a big problem at all just because it's rare among modern basses-just a Fender idiosyncrasy. Not attacking you, Mr. Grant. Have no reason to do so. Just stating not all is Dark and Evil at the MiM factory. Definitely should catch major problems, but that doesn't mean they should shut down the factory, or that they are incapable of producing high quality, MiM basses.
@@rexrathtar3893 You and I will have to agree to disagree on this. I get why they do it to make it more vintage, but it's a design flaw really and they shouldn't propagate in a new bass design which isn't vintage
Fender must be pooping in there pants on acceptance of there foil bass. No one seems to give it a good review, it doesn't improve on the P-bass or J- bass sound. Bottom line, why?
Make an American version, with nitro, and a traditional wood case I would buy it in a second. The Mexican instruments have way too many QC issues, I have seen two of these with off centered bridges and the fret work on all the Mexican necks are terrible.
I'm not a bass player but that bridge looks misaligned to me- one of the strings isn't over the pickups and has less volume. And there are ppl in the comments saying they have one that has the same issue- looks like Fender dropped the ball on this one to me.

Too many people on here are watching one video from a RUclips bass player and claiming to all of a sudden be an expert on this particular bass series. That bass was handed to other YT channels, so of course they are going to spot the same issue. The one on this video looks and sounds fine.
Parabéns à Fender
Sting has ordered 30 of these...
Watch the Low End Lobster review of this bass for a true representation of what this utter Joke of £1200 is all about
Lobster reported this correctly. Terrible QC
That's fender nowadays
£1300 for a one pickup MIM jazz bass that isn’t even a gold foil. Absolutely bizarre. Fender have been so dull the past 5-6 years. Urgh.
Sounds a ton better out the gate than that trash epiphone on the last bass video
Fender must be pooping in there pants on acceptance of there foil bass. No one seems to give it a good review, it doesn't improve on the P-bass or J- bass sound. Bottom line, why?
Not much different about this from any other Fender I’ve ever heard, which is to say it sounds sterile and run of the mill
And yet nothing sits better in a mix than a Fender.
Lee is great. That pup is simply underwhelming :/
Just purchase a P bass already.
Make an American version, with nitro, and a traditional wood case I would buy it in a second. The Mexican instruments have way too many QC issues, I have seen two of these with off centered bridges and the fret work on all the Mexican necks are terrible.
A Jazz with one misaligned pickup? Absolutely not....
I'm not a bass player but that bridge looks misaligned to me- one of the strings isn't over the pickups and has less volume. And there are ppl in the comments saying they have one that has the same issue- looks like Fender dropped the ball on this one to me.
Why Fender?! Why?
shit gold foil 😂
$1300 for a Mexican made Fender. Nope
I heard they're garbage
Gold foils meh
Where is Nathan? Lee and Nathan have it. Whilst Nathan’s replacement was a nice character there was not much going on in the demonstration sense of things, not that I could not get from any basic rock player. It was all a bit one dimensional. Same can be said with the chap who has that bald long haired thing going on, and who needs to visit baldcafe on RUclips. I am sure I am going to get roasted for my comments. I could care less. They are both better than the Alan Partridge of guitar, also known as Rob Chapman.
Damn I really want to buy a bass instead of using midi : ( haha
lol the same old p/j bass body as usual .... smh. I'll pass.
Useless
Why is every guitarist I see on the streets a bass player? Are youngsters no longer playing type-T or type-S or single-cuts or acoustic guitars
youngsters are no longer playing much of anything
@@looking_33 think it's the music they watch. I saw a Glastonbury set the other day. And it was just a guy spinning decks surrounded by screens doing a light show. It was all on a platform which raised when the feed of the song intensified
I did t understand it at all but the crowds were losing their minds.
So no musicians to emulate is my point
@looking_33 Get outta here with that age-ism. I don't see _you_ slaving 14 hours a day in a mine like your ancestors.
@@josephpbrown in days gone by people used to talk about stuff on all sorts of subjects. It didn't matter if people were right or wrong, it was just talking around with your mates. It also didn't matter if you were young or old, young people used to talk with young people. Old people used to talk with old people. And yes, young and old people used to talk together too. It was a blessed time where there was no Internet so a lot of time people didn't even know if something was right or wrong. Debates could go on for hours, days and yes, even weeks. If it was important enough we would sometimes go to the library and search for an answer. Many times those searches were fruitless. So the to and fro of ideas continued. People argued their corners but it was a friendly arena where people respected opinions even if those opinions differed from their own. The debates would still carry on over a few beers. A lot of friendships were curated off the back of having a debate and more importantly listening to opposing views.
I welcome hearing your opinions of why a dj spinning decks staying in one place with headphones on is as good as a 70s style rock concert. I would like to know what I am 'not getting'. I welcome your debate
Ah, I do miss the times when people could speak their opinions without someone taking offence (which was not originally given by the way). Truly magical times
@truthtorpedo99 To be truthful, I wish I was around to see 'em too. Working in retail and being a young musician gives you some distasteful knee-jerk reactions to older people insulting what you love simply because they can't comprehend what's going on in the new world any more, like our friend @looking_33 up there. I apologise for misreading your comment and will edit my reply to reflect this.
