Anyone that has ever read 19th century Russian literature could tell you how deep that culture is; they're an extraordinarily romantic culture that learned early on to embrace suffering and tragedy and to prosper the human spirit despite the atrocities visited upon them. Hearty, soulful, resilient, people. Their women are exemplars of intelligence, beauty, grace, and an uncommon stoicism.
I can't say enough about the Russian people. Truly remarkable.

I admire how the majority of Russians are fellow Caucasians who believe in Patriarchal Christian Marriage, are opposed to the Women's Lib, and are just as adamantly Abortion, Anti-Homosexual, Anti-Pedo, and Anti-Trans, as I am. However, they would be pleasing Triune God about 20% more of the way of the Cross Theologically, if they would stop with allowing Women in their Military Marches. The Military Infantry is meant for Men only.

@rocororphan6146you have to understand that, where there is no struggle, there can't be any great Saints or people who uphold Orthodox virtue.
You read Crime and Punishment and you go through Raskolnikov's inner struggle, the people around him are mostly possessed by the same ideas he has, but he still has this inner light which makes him hate people like Svidrigailov. Eventually he finds salvation through his punishment. This is an example of the Russian spirit.
Then you go west and you read The Count of Monte Cristo and Dantes simply goes through life. There's no inner struggle, there's only an outward struggle, only the dungeon and the men who sent him there. Punishment is inverted, one struggles for because of his sins, the other is sinless but struggled because of other people's.
Dantes still goes on to join the same world which sent him in prison, by mingling with smugglers, bandits and elites. There is no struggle in the west, this is why it's in deeper waters now than Russia.

They taught me in highschool that the last czar Nicholas was an antichrist. In addition l was never taught the horrors of the Bolsheviks. Only that they resisted the autocrat who was similar to the French monarch. And they headed a revolution which sprang another antichrist Joseph Stalin. I then read a rare book written by a Russian writer which described Czar Nicholas as a good and decent extremely religious man of Orthodox faith who was always God fearing and never wanted to ne Czar. A man who put his family God and his nation ahead of himself.
In addition he was surrounded by ill advisors who's evil motives and bad decision policies painted a very unfair picture of Russia's last Czar. Never mentioning the murder of thousands of Christians who would not hold rhe Bolsheviks in a higher regard than Jesus Christ. The atheistic agenda of the Bolsheviks desteoyed many churches in addition to killing many innocent civilians and peasants in addition to the entire Romanov clan. The same was done to all the other countries of the former iron curtain, especially the Orthodox Christians.

With love and respect to father Josiah, I'd say that he is in some sense wrong about what is happening here in Russia. I am from St. Petersburg and I can clearly say that the state, secular and postmodernist, uses the church in it's own agenda, funding the facade ( giving money to built more churches) , but at the same time abusing the true faith with it's ideology, using the church hierarchs. Today's Russia is an extension of Soviet system, that uses postmodernist narratives to fuse it's components into very strange and decietful structure. The USA does it too, but in the other way.

People tend to forget that some of the first people to be persecuted during the communist takeover, and prior, were orthodox christians. In fact, if i recall the history right, there were orthodox priests who held peaceful protests to ask the Tsar for better treatment in that time, before being martyred by military gunfire.
For that they have my respect, despite me leaning protestant in doctrine. In no way should they be considered in the same category as their governments, tsar nor soviet. So I find it weird if people are criticising orthodoxy just because of communism, when orthodox were one of the persecuted groups🤷‍♂️

The resurgence of the Orthodox Church after 70 years of aggressive exterminating atheism is truly a remarkable story.I personally believe it is because the church never fully embraced the rationalism of the Enlightenment which kept its core beliefs intact despite intense pressure to curse God and die.Mysticism has always been greater than either Catholicism or Protestantism

Wasn’t the reason Lenin was so harsh on religion was because of what the Orthodox Church in the Russian Empire had done? Hadn’t they turned the Romanovs into religious figures? I mean, Stalin was literally sent to a Siberian death camp by the Russian Empire, so I understand (although Stalin was the one who reconciled with the Orthodox Church). Have I been misled?

In all seriousness, it might only leave a residue that would have to be buried as hazardous waste..
[ I saw it with my husband in 1985. Dreadful place and experience. Then with a few university student groups. They tried to lie about his body and try to make it look like something that the Orthodox have truly venerated for years in the Holy Relics of Saints. They DID NOT succeed. And the Orthodox knew that best.. I have been blessed to venerate bodies of several saints. The experience is totally different. But these comments i am making are bringing that contrast into my mind in ways i have never thought of before. ]
