I am from Zimbabwe and came to study in Russia. This country gave me a diploma, amazing friends, many memories. Russia is incredibly welcoming and very beautiful. And this is not the only country where I have been. The people here are the most sincere. I still live here and in the 6 years I have been here I have never once come face to face with racism, either from the older generation or from the younger generation.

Russia wasn’t involved in colonizing Africa and wasn’t involved in slave trade ,no wonder they are open and welcoming to blacks . Most western countries at one time or the other viewed black people as inferior.
The only thing Russia did was help Africa fight against colonization . That’s why Africa will never turn against Russia , never been to Russia but I understand why their attitudes to blacks are different. We in Africa love Russia and will support Russia always

Rather, Russians had their own people in slavery, so just about everyone was historically equal.
Even "Negry", aka "black" is just a neutral word to refer to the race rather then being a slur.
We have nothing much about blacks coming as tourist but we are very much against welcoming blacks as permanent residents. Don't confuse these things.

I'm black and african. I live in a rather small russian city, my friends and I were actually the first black people there lol. What has been my greatest shock? Everything I was told about russia before I came here was a lie, my family and friends were always worried about me because of the things they read in the media. I tell them to this day, I feel safer here than I ever felt anywhere else. Its been 8 years and I can only say I've had only one racist moment, and when it happened, a russian woman defended me and almost beat up the person lol. Of course in the beginning I drew a lot of attention, but it was out of curiosity. I look different, it's a fact. Here once you can even just say one word in russian, like привет, they will be happy and will call you a real russian just to encourage you. I have made a lot of family, my classmates have invited me to their homes, I've never spent summer alone. That's what my mom was most worried about. I have more grandmas here than anyone, I get treated well, everyone makes sure I never feel left out, in short, I've blended in well. I'm just sad I will be leaving soon.

They treat us Gypsies bad because we never accepted to incorporate their societies having bad reputation but it's far away of racism of Western ppls and US. Blacks are treated really like the gods that they feel uncomfortable. Big problem are migrants from Afghanistan, Syria and other countries of Middle east which are so violent and problematic that they love us Gypsies more than these savages who rape, steal, make problems. I am half Russian half African, was born in Russia and live in Chelyabinsk since I was 1 year old(south ural). I can say that I feel pretty safe here the biggest problem for me is that people are staring at me a lot but I can understand why)))
I finish school and university here in Chelyabinsk and all of my classmates and teachers was kind and nice to me, they never pointed out my skin color. Probably it really depends on how you act not what your skin color is)

Потому, что вы приезжаете к нам, учитесь. Знакомитесь с нами. Это делает наши народы ближе. Я улыбаюсь, когда вижу людей из Африки.И мне бы хотелось бы с вами поговорить, но я боюсь вас обидеть.

Ну вообще это смотря где жить и во сколько выходить. Конечно, если вы будете жить в Москве и гулять по центру это одно. А если идти в час ночи, то во многих городах можно нарваться на бухих быков. У меня достаточно этого было. Кто-то плечом специально заденет, кто-то выкрикнет что-то оскорбительное или просто подойдет и начинает докапываться. Привет. У нас с Западными странами были разные пути. Они эксплуатировали рабский труд других народов, в то время, как в российской империи мы эксплуатировали сами себя. Если быть точнее, то дворяне и особы благородных кровей которых было 10% эксплуатировали остальных русских крестьян которых было 90%. Так что если на Западе встречаете белого русского, то он не белый, а просто русский. У нас исторически сложилось, что мы не считаем будто какие-то народы хуже или лучше. Россия многонациональная страна, так же как США к примеру. Разница в том, что у нас в России у каждой нации есть свой кусочек территории с их земляками там где они всегда будут чувствовать себя дома. Во всех этих народных республиках свой язык, культура и религия. Это называется малая Родина. Россия эта общая большая Родина для разных народов, культур, конфессий, но у каждого представителей любого народа есть ещё его малая Родина

I’m from Afghanistan and i have lived in Russia for almost three years. I haven’t encountered any bad behaviour from anyone. You will be respected as you respect them. You can walk anywhere in the middle of the night and feel 100 percent safe. I have made lots of friends which i will remember forever.
But you still have to be careful at night, there are fools everywhere It doesn't matter what country you are in

@@freedommits a sad fact but kenya is very unsafe compared to Russia.. I lived in Russia for 7 straight years while in school and I didn't have any incidents. The next year while in Kenya I lost 2 phones to street thieves and got mugged at gun point when walking to my gate. I had to move to the countryside to enjoy peace of mind. Kenya right now is just a big piece of***, thanks to that guy on the top messing the economy. Crime rate is high up.

I travelled to Russia many times and have met many black people - mostly students at university. The very first time I went to Moscow, from the airport to checking at hotel, it was almost midnight. Still I so much wanted to see the Red Square that I went out - I felt safe. I would NOT have gone out in my country at midnight. Am not black but still there are not many countries where a woman can walk in the streets at night without feeling afraid. I would love to live in Russia. ❤🧡💛💚💙

@@Котяш-и4т Дружище я приехал в Италию, центр города Генуя, не нашел где курить, и вышел покурить на крыльцо отеля, на меня там сразу напала какая-то толпа бомжей. В Испании в Барселоне у отеля была перестрелка и убили человека. Курить я уже не выходил перед сном.

I felt very safe in city such as Svobodny, Blagoveshchensk, & Khabarovsk that i visited and stayed. I lived in a small town of Svobodny with a Russian friend/ family and i felt very safe being an African American. I feel safer in Russia than i do in American being a black man because i am not being harassed , discriminated or threatened by anyone while in Russia than i am in the states sometimes. I respect the Russian people, laws and the police in the cities i stayed at and never had a problem being an American and Black.

Russia Is a great country. I lived in St. Petersburg for 6 years hoping to go back. The Western media always have negativity to places like China, Russia, etc... to put fear in Westerners not to invest their money. Is there Racism in Russia of course like any other country in the world. Racism is a heart issue, not a country issue. It's in a person's heart that makes them a racist. So yes, do I feel safe in Russia absolutely!!!
That is important to mention, there is no place that 100% safe and perfect.
But Russia is one of the safest, especially in Moscow

It is a huge reality check to hear someone say that in Russia they don’t have to worry about someone with a gun shooting at a crowd. That is a very heart-wrenching reality that we face here in America. I’m so tired of America, I have wanted to live abroad my entire life ever since the first time I went to the Philippines. All of my life never have I ever wanted to stay here in America and die here like a dog.

Ну вообще-то это не безопасно, вам просто повезло. Я раньше часто поздно возвращалась с работы, да ещё и через парк, но у меня всегда был с собой складной нож в кармане и заряженный телефон в руке. Нельзя беспечно относиться к своей безопасности, психов и маньяков в России всегда хватало.

В США могут просто прирезать и средь бела дня на улице. Особенно в наши дни, там сейчас просто п....ц. и особенно плохо с кражами. В магазинах многие стали даже туалетную бумагу на стеллажах закрывать стеклом с замком или проволочными сетками, потому что лутинг просто космический. Магазины вычищают просто под чистую и полиция ничего не делает

as a russian this makes me really happy to see. i moved to the UK when i was young and grew up with people seeing harmful stereotypes about russia and russians in the media. it’s really nice to see non-russians say nice things :) i hope that more people can see what russians are really like and stop listening to stereotypes and harmful media

I live in England: Normal people do not hate or have negative feelings about Russia/the Russians. My feeling is that they are respecting Russia/the Russians. When I told them that some of my ancestors were born/were from Siberia they did not look at me differently...

I was talking to my mom about Russia and how I didn’t believe what the media says about it and she then proceeded to tell me how Russians where the ones who helped our country (Mozambique) to fight for independence and how throughout history they have always been helpers… that is something they don’t teach us in school or even speak about on media

I believe you guys I am from the Caribbean living in Canada I met Russians for the first time here its amazing how friendly and educated they are. and the woman and children are beautiful far from the picture the western world was showing us. In my building they are he only one who would open the door and salute the blacks tenants.

I was living in Saint Petersburg for almost half a year and traveled a bit around in Russia and can say, there were only 1 or 2 times in total, where I felt unsafe. And usually I am a bit paranoid when it comes to walking around in big cities at night. But never has anything bad happened here and I can say, that Russia feels much safer than my home country of Germany. I mean, just a few days ago there were some knife attacks in my small and rural town and somebody got killed. Sometimes you are not even safe in small countries in Germany, but big cities in Russia are super safe. In in some scatchier situations there was never a real thread. And even though I am very opposed to a lot of over watching and police control, Russia is the evidence, that things can be great

I don't know what made me search on RUclips, "What's black people experience in Russia?" 🤔 I guess I'm really sick of living in the US and desperately want to move my family out of here. Maybe it's a sign from God. Russia looks soooooo beautiful. Every video I've watched, which is only one. Lol..😅😅 everyone who looks like me 🙋🏾♀️ love living their. Our media here in the US doesn't really show case Russia in a good image. Unfortunately, many of us here in the US believed the things that were sad. Now, I'm finally waking up, and I'm realizing much of what I thought I knew was a complete lie ☹️ to all the people in Russia, I'm sorry for believing the lies and believing the negative press. I am Russian and one day I was riding in a commuter train and a black guy, apparently a student, sat across from me. I was listening to music with headphones on, holding my phone in my hands and closing my eyes. When I opened my eyes, he gestured for me to hide the phone. I couldn't understand what he wanted to tell me, because in Russia I can't even imagine someone snatching my phone out of my hands on public transportation.
There were a lot of device snatching (mostly audio players but also pocket pc and even first Mobil phones) in metro in 90-s, that is both due to very high value of devices and overall lawlessness in these days.

Если раньше людям было порой есть нечего, то сейчас вопрос об этом не стоит, люди спокойно могут оставить куртку на стуле в кафе чтобы занять место, хотя раньше это было опасно, человек может спокойно реагировать на полицейских, которые его остановили (например в метро, чтобы посмотреть большую сумку), а раньше был страх, что подкинут вещества и тд. Я сама спокойно открывала вещи для проверки, моего мужа часто останавливали в метро и на улице около метро (он худой, высокий и носит шапку с капюшоном, поэтому иногда, когда не выспится и ходит с синяками под глазами, похож на наркомана, его могут остановить, один раз даже пробивали по базе данных, но потом спокойно отпускали и желали хорошего дня, не было никаких проблем, это только бдительность, но никак не желание навредить или что то подкинуть человеку)

I worked with some Russian immigrants back in the mid 2000s and they were some of the sweetest, most polite people I'd ever met. Don't listen to everything you hear, that's all I have to say.

hey, if you actually wanna try to go to Russia, just do it. The only expensive stuff in this travel will be ticket on airplane. If you really want it, you firstly need to try to go here as a traveller. You won't need too much money. The month-salary of an american call-center worker is enough to live in russia for may be 3 or 4 months :) Haha
You can easily get a job as an English teacher and getting a work permit is easy as well. There are lots of language schools that would love to have a native speaker.

Generally Russians do not care of skin color or origin. They have no feel of superiority over people of color like white people of western countries, as most of them are descendants of white slaves, identical to enslaved people of color in any sense but complexion. Most of them remember it. Black man in Moskow is a normal, but in some drawback places he may meet some extra attention which may be felt as racist, but indeed it will be not a racism, but a feel of surprise. But generally Russians is OK with black people, especially if Black ones understand the 'Negr' (meaning: Black male)/'Negrityanka'(meaning: Black female - yes, Russians have special femenitive for Black women) words have no racist connotation in Russia - it is just common name for all black-skinned people. As a lot of people will call them and refer to that by that word

Могу сказать про двойной опыт встречи мной африканцев, я жил в Красноярске (Сибирь) и никогда их не видел, но ближе к Универсиаде стал замечать и было удивительно, но ничего необыкновенного, просто непривычно видеть, кого-то с другим цветом кожи. Когда в 2018 году я переехал в Санкт-Петербург, там было много темнокожих ребят, многие из них хорошо говорили по русски, с некоторыми даже давалось пообщаться, все они были весёлыми, добрыми парнями и из своего круга общения, я никогда не слышал осуждения в их адрес, ведь они себя ведут хорошо, приехали работать и учиться, законы не нарушают, соответственно и мнения кроме положительного для них быть не может. Да и в целом, не нужно забывать, что Россия никогда не эксплуатировала рабский труд Африканцев, у нас нет предрассудков к другим нациями, так как мы интернациональная страна и нужно жить всем в мире, так или иначе, любой человек появился с Африки и все мы братья. So, we are talking how's it going, how does she like it here, where does she live, etc. She names her neighborhood. And one local gal comments that is very bad neighborhood. Nigerian girl disagrees, says she likes it, malls, parks, convenient commute and stuff. No, explains the local girl, last year there was a rape in your neighborhood, and another one the year before last.
