I'm dying listening to you talk about the strawberry runners lol I started a garden 2 summers ago and purchased aprox 40 strawberry plants so I could have one 8X4 raised bed devoted to just strawberries. I'd never grown anything before. They were throwing off runners everywhere. This past summer I decided to relocate one plant at a time into a vertical system I set up. I had almost FOUR HUNDRED strawberry plants in just that one-year lolol I was picturing your entire living room blanketed in strawberry plants haha
We have had a really tough time with this unit on our pool lanai in SW Florida. The lettuce grows well but beans, cucumbers, tomatoes and green beans have failed miserably even when the instructions have been followed meticulously. They now ask that I move the unit oustide the pool screen to better polinate the seedlings that need it. Well that is a no go for sure as the seedlings are advertised as self polinating. Heck, they can be grown indoors as well. I see your unit is in the greenhouse and seems to be doing great. I will do a reset and clean the unit and give it another chance, but if it fails me again, then it will be an expensive paperweight on my deck sadly. We have the 36 plant unit and with many empty holes they are telling me to plug those as they allow light into the unit which can cause mold/algar buildup (although I don't see any). They also tell me that if you don't have many of the ports filled with a seedling, that the other plants can get over-fertilized. Hmmm... never said anything about that before prurchasing. Growing your own seedlings would be they way to go to save you the $$$ as they charge $2.50 per seedling and that adds up (especially if your growing experience is not a good one). All in all... I would buy a smaller unit and see how it goes if you choose this route. Just want folks to know that their are folks who may not have such a good experience even though they are following the included instructions to they letter! Be well...
The reason you are not getting strawberry fruit is because you are not cutting off the runners. When you keep the runners, the plant uses too much of its energy producing the daughter plants. Cut off those runners and I bet you’ll see some strawberries. Also you need to hand pollinate those. Either use a paintbrush/q tip to transfer the pollen between the male and female flowers, or shake them or use a fan. Good luck!
@@MrsLyds Those are stems the plant sends out to start new plants. You can see them in gardens where the strawberries have been given a bit of space to spread out. They're the skinny little stems running across the ground that you see between the plants that sent them, and the plants that grew from them until they started sending out their own.

I'm considering Lettuce Grow and found your 3-month review video from 2 years ago. Just wondering if anyone with one of these systems has an update on how it works long-term. My use for it would be fresh salads and herbs. Would like to know what works and what doesn't work for people. Which plants are best? Did anyone get strawberries to work?

Currently yet another light only partially failed - as the light works but the lead to the next light has failed. No visible damage on anything. Just yet another failure. Here’s what everyone need to know: YOU CANNOT CALL THEM FOR WARRANTY OR CUSTOMER SERVICE! If you email them with questions about how to setup or use they will reply. If you have a common QC issue….good luck!
They may tell you to harvest the butter lettuce all at once, but I have been just taking leaves off of mine for months and it just keeps producing. All of my seeds have sprouted well. I am getting so much lettuce and leafy greens it is incredible!

I love my farmstand and have had it for close to 3 years but lately have been getting a lot of aphids on my seedlings. Neem oil hasn’t really done much for me as a repellent either unfortunately.
Diatomaceous Earth is a great aphid repellent, and is all natural, edible, and non-toxic to animals. It works by the crushed, fossilized organic matter being sharp, on a microscopic level, and slicing the insects, causing them to dehydrate and die. Need oil has only worked for me when I mix my own and add a couple drops of dish washing detergent.
It’s just me and my husband. The thing I worry about is if we would be able to consume this at the same rate it grows. I love to cook. I love the idea of fresh herbs. We both have smoothies almost everyday. Have you found yourself having to harvest more than you can eat and putting a lot in the freezer?
no actually not at all! It definetly takes your first round of seedlings to understand what you really use and don't use- we didn't need to replenish our herbs, but definetly had to replenish our lettuces. So it's about figuring out what you'll really use and then filling your stand with it! moving forward, I'll prune the herbs more to keep them in line as they were overgrown, but we only harvest what we need for that meal we cook, and then leave the rest growing!
Strawberry runners back into the soil and they will grow more plants and get light and also get a paint brush and pollinate the flowers because W I’ll get any fruit if you don’t pollinateAnd I’m assuming there are no bees or butterflies in your house
I would learn to find out what nutrients to buy and use so a person does not have to depend on buying a pre-made nutrient mix. Obviously one of the benefits of this set up is independence and self sufficiency. The less one has to depend on others, the more a person or family is self sufficient.
Great video! Question: do you have to replace the pod with a new one each time you harvest lettuce or box choy? I live in a city with close access to produce stores. Trying to figure if this is economical or a novelty give the steep $500+ price and the $15+ pods.

You mentioned growing tomatoes from seeds. Would you be so kind as to explain steps on how you did seeds. Did you use potting soil or did you buy little plant pods to put seeds into it?
It seems pretty easy to take out the roots/rearrange but do you ever run into somewhat consistent issues where the roots intertwined? Or is it constructed where the plant roots are separated?
Do the plants that have leaves touching the light bar have any sunburn from the lights? I notice that happens from time to time with the grow lights I use.
surprisingly minimal amount of them do- but yes some of the leave touching the plants get crispy- I just prune them back and write them off because I like the overgrown look so much!

I’ve figured out the seedlings I want BUT I’m still debating about the strawberries. I’ve always wanted to grow strawberries and the site says indoors is fine for those in my area.
The water noise is loud. Now perhaps it gets quieter as the roots grow? We just fired it up this weekend and it sounds like a toilet tank with a stopper stuck open.

strawberries totally grew indoors- but only like 6 so for me it wasn't worth it! outdoors, when natural light is a totally different story!

it depends on how much produce you buy and if you buy organic- but also this gives me control over what types i grow
You pay way more for those plants than seeds.
