  • We use fabric of the highest quality. This video is to show some of the reasons behind the choice of our Arcx-n fabric based on the High tenacity nylon, - nylon 66 with silicone coating on both sides of the fabric. Our findings are that the tear strength of the fabric is dramatically reduced when using PU over silicone.
To be able to tape-seam the seams on a tent to make them 100% waterproof from the factory, you need the PU. Because nothing sticks to silicone. This is the reason why many manufacturers replace the silicone with PU on the inside of the tent. To be able to tape-seam the tent from the factory.

It would have been interesting to know the weights of the fabric as a comparison

what about PE coating for tent floors? Will PE have less problems developing a bad smell and falling-apart compared to PU coatings ?

For the floor it is practical with a PE/ Pu coating. (PE is an evolution of PU) As this coating gives a much higher hydrostatic Head which it needs as the floor is subject to pressure when stepping on it, etc. But on the floor we only use PU/ PE and not in combination with silicon as many manufacturers do with the flysheet. The silicon wanders through the fabric and makes the PU/ PE peel off after some time. This is not the same case when the fabric contains only PU/ PE on just the one side of the fabric. So. For the floor we are able to use PU/ PE without the same deterioration as you will experience with the flysheet.

Veldig bra video innslag , mykje ny lærdom om kvaliteten på stoffet som brukes. ka blir det hydrostatiske nivået ( mm vannsøyle ) når en bruker Nylon 66 m sil/sil?

Is it important to seam seal a Nortent right away when you get it? Or is it fine to just seam seal before you use it (like if it sits in your closet for a year before you use it)?

Seal before you take it out.

Love your tents but for the very high MSRP you charge it should be silpoly, not silnylon and should be factory seam sealed.
Dan Durston uses SilPoly in all of his tents because it has superior UV resistance and does not sag when wet.
