Was a single Airman stationed far away from much to do. Buying the Colecovision and the VCS adapter for all my 2600 games gave me tons to do. After buying the Super Action Controllers with baseball packed in, my roommate and I played many, many innings together. Favorite game: Frenzy. Add one vote for continuing your in depth restore.

Yes more please! Got my Coleco Christmas of '82. Was my first real console as I never had a 2600. Only device I have before that was a Coleco Telstar Alpha from 1977 (Pong clone). Those that had this and grew up on it know that the controller is actually awesome and better than the Atari 2600 controllers. First cartridge I got besides the included Donkey Kong was Mousetrap and was such an underrated game. Still have mine in working condition! You got a real nice selection of carts there. Ladybug, Venture, Mousetrap and Carnival got tons of gameplay. I flipped the score on Ladybug, Mr.Do! and Zaxxon. Some others that were tons of fun were Pepper II, Looping, Donkey Kong Jr., Frontline, Smurf, Time Pilot. Of course I have the Expansion Module 1 and picked up a bunch of Atari carts as well. Still have my Super Action Controllers with a few games for that, but those were poorly designed and the controls were hard to use and I found they failed after time. As a 13 year old, this console was amazing. Neighborhood friends were constantly coming over to play as I was the first around to get this. I miss those days.

I got this for Christmas the year it came out. So 81 or 82. I asked for an Atari like my best friend Kevin had. I was happy with this. I had Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Zaxxon, Pilot Wings, Venture, Mouse Trap. Plus a few others I can't remember now. Great times. There were some awesome games on that system.

I was lucky enough to have been able to play ColecoVision semi-regularly as a kid, thanks to two friends who each had one. I remember how amazing we all thought it was that you could use the ColecoVision controllers, especially the large Super Action Controller, on an Atari. It's funny to see all the unnecessary empty space in the case with "controller storage" as the only justification for it!

I asked my folks for the Colecovision because it had the best Donkey Kong port - I only found out around 10 years ago that it wasn't a licensed version. I had totally forgotten about the display case with the clear plastic lid. I also had the steering wheel and accelerator pedal controller for Turbo. I used to play sitting on my bed, so I just sat on the accelerator pedal.
'Venture' nearly traumatized me, the first time a Hall Monster came flying through the wall with that horrible distorted roar. I think I all of the games in this vid, and I also played a lot of Turbo, Pepper II and Burger Time.

I had a ColecoVision with the Atari 2600 "adapter" (which, looking back now, was probably more like a mini 2600 that used the main console's A/V out). Great console, but it's a wonder those controllers didn't give me premature arthritis.
WarGames was one of my favorites, made good use of the keypad on the controller. I remember my brother and I would try finishing the game in different states - saving everything, ending at DEFCON 5 or 1, losing all cities and bases (the end game screen actually had different messages if you lost everything). Also had the trackball attachment, which was great for the couple of games that supported it.

My parents bought me a Colecovision for Christmas back in 1984. I remember how great the graphics looked and the games looked almost like the arcade games. My biggest complaint with Colecovision was the joystick. I don't know why they went with a stubby mushroom style joystick and the keypad seemed kind of pointless. It would have been great had they just stuck with something like the 2600. I only had a few games for Celecovision and I remember them being very expensive. Eventually I got a Atari 2600 add on and I could play all the Atari games. By then, Atari 2600 was really showing it's age and it didn't take long before it got shelved for good.

I freaked out when I saw the cartridges that came with your purchase. My memory isn’t perfect, but those seem like the exact games I had back in the day. Could you somehow have ended up with my old Colecovision? But once you showed the manuals I realize it wasn’t. I would never have kept manuals in that good of shape. And I didn’t have the 2600 expansion module back then (I do now). So not my old unit, just a unit from somebody with excellent taste in games.

For instance, back when people took pictures on this thing called “film” and not a phone , if one were to make enlargements/prints (at home in a “dark” room) and furthermore mount and frame them, then it was important to know NOT to use 3M “77” spray
adhesive - lest your photograph be eaten away by the glue over time.

Having said that, I’ve read countless numbers of postings of people using the Genesis controller successfully with the 2600/400/800/XL/XE/ST and VIC20/C64/128 and Amiga.
I’ve also read about a danger regarding a certain button on the Genesis controller causing fried circuits … wish I could remember but I don’t use Genesis controllers. Intellectually lazy I guess. But if anyone knows the details please chime in.

And i have the wheel and trackball plus around 50 games. Its a great machine for its time but I'm not sure I can much recommend it to anyone nowadays. The homebrew scene is heavily just ripping off old MSX carts but requiring a hard to get modern ram and audio expansion board and most of the original carts are just compromised versions of arcade games.

What glue you use in the labels?

I would also like to know. A few of my labels could desperately use this treatment.

Nice assortment of games. Mouse Trap is a hidden gem! I still have my original ColecoVision but haven't fired it up in years!

This was my first console, those controllers are an experience all their own. I recommend getting a copy of Pepper-II, very fun game that's kind of like Amidar but every level is 5 connected screens of mazes you have to clear.

Absolutely loved and was amazed of Colecovision early 80’s. We used to rent it home after Atari 2600 from video store. It was first at Arcade at home experience . Donkey Kong feel like arcade game. Loved Smurf rescue game. Graphics were just beautiful. Remember Turbo gaming competition at local supermarket with steering wheel. After year 2000 when start collect those childhood memories back I was just amazed how many games Colecovision had that we never even heard here at 80’s like Spy Hunter, Tapper, Up’n Down. We used to play those with Commodore 64. These days have two Colecovision France units that have RGB scart output. Other modded with F18A with VGA output. Then got Collectorvision Phoenix that outputs HDMI signal. And Colecovision can also be played with many portable systems these days like Analogue Pocket, Anbernic and Powkiddy RGB30. Who could have believed that we still play it 2024❤

Great vid, brother! Loved seeing you bring those cartridges back to life with such care!
My best friend of my childhood lived down the street and he got a ColecoVision the same Christmas I got a ‘Vader’ 2600 (Xmas 1982).
I was jealous but, over the next couple of years…he spent more time on my Atari than I ever did on his ColecoVision.
I LOVED WarGames….but, he only had about 10 or fewer games.
    I had, like, 40. Haha!
But, hey, at least we both had fun!
Oh! And that receipt! That’s so cool! 🙂

Wow, I had 6 of those 7 games (only one I didn't have was Ladybug). In total I think I had about 20 Coleco games. I also had the expansion module, which is how I played all the 2600 games that I ever played back then.

Those GxG refurbished cartridge labels are looking nice and crisp. That’s a great unit you have there, love all the manuals and extras (especially the system organizer, game catalog with pictures of each game’s respective arcade cab and the receipt for the 2600 module). There’s a lot I don’t know about the Colecovision, consider this another vote for more. I’d also love to see some play tests and overviews of the games, I think you have the potential for a lot of great, additional content there. Example: In the future, I’d love to see a side by side comparison between the 2600 and Colecovision ports of Donkey Kong.
