I wanted to make a sight without a lens, like the APEX 1x HCOG Classic.
I made one that works like that.
A light spot appears in the air without a lens.
The light spot actually shines at its position, there is no reflection or illusion.
However, it does not use any amazing new technology.
It is a craft level thing that can be reproduced if you have the patience.
There are still some issues to be solved before it can be put to practical use, and whether it can be used as a website or not is still unknown.
I think it's quite interesting from a pictorial point of view.
I uploaded a video once at this stage.
Since it was a prototype, the finish before painting was not very good.
    It's not a pretty finish.
Also, the reticle is not very clear.
    It's really not ready yet.
I hope you will take a look at it with warm eyes.
In order to convey the image of the prop produced more clearly, images of the prop when mounted are included.
All firearm-like objects in the film are airsoft guns.
What you see is an airsoft gun.
This is not a video about making a sight scope for a firearm.
It is a video of verification and discussion on how to reproduce props from science fiction works in reality.
We are not planning to distribute 3D data or Arduino sketches on this channel.

Thank you for all your comments and questions.
I apologize for not being able to respond at all after a certain point.
I'm currently editing the English version of the production video.
The whole thing is now over 20 minutes long, so it will be split into two parts, just like the Japanese version.
I will upload the first part within a day, so please wait a little longer.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, this sight is not made for airsoft guns or actual firearm applications.
I just wanted to recreate a prop like in a science fiction movie in reality without CG.
However, since it was in the shape of a sight scope, I thought it would be better to make it somewhat of a sighting mechanism, so I included the idea of making a front and rear reticle and using it like an iron sight.
Perhaps that was not a good idea. Here, I think I've made some viewers think that this is a gun sight scope.
In the comments, I received a fair amount of "this is not practical for real firearms." started to be posted in a certain amount.
I regret that I didn't communicate it better.
However, the technical content they gave me was interesting and full of various knowledge that I did not know.
It was very exciting to be exposed to them.
    Thank you.
Also, thank you to those who politely replied to my concept for those posts.
That made me very happy, too.
    Sure,
"it's not practical, it's not good here, it's not good there, existing sites are superior, it's useless, I wouldn't trust my life with it....
    So this doesn't mean anything."
I am sure I am hurting when people say only that.
It's very important for me to learn about improvement plans and weaknesses through comments.
But it would be nice if you could keep the concept in mind a bit.
I want to read everyone's knowledge, but comments that only make me feel sad will discourage me from creating.
    I've written a lot.
Thanks to all who commented, protected me, and watched. I love you!
It might be difficult to reply to all of them.
◆I'll try to answer some of the most frequently asked questions here on behalf of all of them.
Some of the questions are answered in the two videos I'm about to upload.
    I'll categorize them as part1 and part2.
    (The answer is in part1)
    How do you achieve this?
What is the shape of the POV?
How do you supply power to the POV?
Why is the distance between reticles so short?
    (The answer is in part2)
How do you control the timing of the glow?
Is it possible to adjust the reticle?
Your finger is slipping through. Isn't it a fake?
    What is the noise level?
■Where can I download 3D data and sketches?

I'm sorry. There are no plans to release the 3D data and sketches used in this channel.
There are many reasons for this, including copyright issues, support issues, assembly methods, and compatibility with generic parts.
    ■How much does it cost?

    About $32, I think.
The breakdown is: $3 for resin, $2 for LEDs, $6 for the motor, $5 for the Arduino, $8 for the rechargeable battery, $2 for the wiring, $3 for other small parts, and $3 for the paint (converted to the amount I used). Unless I'm forgetting something.
■What is the title of this background music?

    "X Ray Vision" by Slynk
    from RUclips audio library
    Great music.

    Thank you.

That is of course if I'm not mistaken in how this works. Because it looks like it works like those "LED hologram fans" that you can find on RUclips, except it's been changed to stick up from a horizontal plane (hard to put what I'm thinking of into words sorry)

    • @space6707
      @space6707 3 года назад +15

Also look up flex LED it's a principle similar to this but it uses magnets and a flexible LED strip to make a hologram like effect. It's much more low profile so you could make the sight smaller. Although an unfortunate drawback is it can be somewhat noisy (though it really depends on how you do it).
PS. It's actually a very simple way to make a hologram effect while being very compact

I didn't know about the "flex LED" to display the hologram. I'm going to check it out and learn more about it.
The weak point of the current POV method using a solid arm is that it can only draw a predetermined trajectory. If it were possible to change the hardness of the arm to any desired level using a soft material, it might be possible to create a more mysterious appearance.

I too feel a sense of romance looking at this. :D
The only advantage I could see from this style of sight over a standard holosight is that you immediately know where the gun is pointing, even if your eyes aren't behind the sight, which means it's easier to find the point of aim when raising the weapon. With a holosight if the red dot isn't visible, you don't know where the gun is pointing until you find the red dot. Of course that issue goes away with training, but some people might prefer this.

That's a red-dot, not a holographic sight. Completely different thing. Not even remotely the same.

@@daggerace9918 I airsoft and target shoot with red dot sighted pistols. normally you can find the dot easier if your pistol has backup irons, my current main and only pistol with a dot (P320/M17) and the airsoft pistol I replicated it with do not have irons, and thus it's just come down to practice. Once you are practice you can bring up the pistol with the dot where it should be though it's still far more forgiving than irons lol.

on the first glance, I thought it uses steam or other particles to project the dot on. However, this approach is vulnerable to, as u said, a "reticle leakage" - dots will be visible from each side. When I watched the video for the second time, I noticed the principle. This is a great concept, but the device will most likely be noisy and fragile. Also it will die from sand and dust

This is some fantastic work, especially for a prototype!
Now as a firearm owner here are some things that could help if you were designing this for practical use.
    1. Air Tight- such as seamlines, battery charging ports, or accessible openings for maintenance, any openings will allow dust, debris, and water which can potentially damage the sight.
    2. Robust- the sight has to hold it's zero when being fired or dropped.
    3. Maintenance- should be easy and practical no need for special tools to access important components, a simple pocket knife or bullet tip should be plenty for special tools.
    4. Battery- power output and battery life should be more than 500 hours from low light to high output light from the sight. And no special battery, should be something common and easily accessible through hardware or electronic stores.
    5. Weight- the material used to make this sight should be lightweight and rugged at the same time. Should be able to take a hit while also being light on the weapon. Ounces equals pounds or grams equals kilograms stuff can get heavy when doing long walks/patrols.
    6. Sight Picture- this comes down to how clearly you can see the dots and target at any point of the day. You mentioned the dots get fuzzy and no worries for that since the dots look like they are being projected. The EOTech sights are holographic and have a fuzzy ring and dot.
You really did a great job for a prototype I'm really impressed.

Having to line up the front and rear dots makes it very similar to iron sights. It may actually be faster to get on target with this than a reflex sight but perhaps not as accurate. One thing that would improve accuracy is having the front and rear dots as far apart as possible. Perhaps a front and rear unit like iron sights.

It's a lttle spinning wires with LED's on them, using persistance of vision like those clocks that you spin around an LED stick to see. There's no "lens" in the way, but there is a spinning wire thing in the way.

Super great concept, but that's a step back in methodology. The point of red dot sights is so you only have 2 things to think about. Your target and your point of aim. So you only superimposed the dot on the target and squeeze. This is basically a floating iron sight with really short sight radius, which has the detriment of less accurate sight alignment due to the sight radius. So you still have to align the sights, then maintain alignment while you align the aligned sights with target, then squeeze. So far my favorite sight concept is the docter prism sight. It's small, sealed, with minimal frame width. It also maintains the single point dot
