3DO Mortal Kombat 2 Port Update 07-23-24 - Improved Gameplay with Special Moves and Projectile Demos

- Significant progress has been made over the past 10 days or so, so I wanted to post a video showing the improvements VS the previous video.
Showing specials and projectiles for Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, Reptile, Kitana, Baraka, and Scorpion as well as alt palettes and arena variations.
Once all of the fighter specials / projectiles are finished and I've gotten the 3 arena fatalities working I will drop a limited test ISO to a handful of users for early beta testing.
If anyone has any interest I am planning on posting another dev vid as well showing the behind the scenes coding and gameplay logic.

I can only imagine that getting MK2 on 3DO has required blood, sweat, tears, and the occasional prayer to some weird Elder God that hasn't been spoken of since humans were sacrificing each other thousands of years ago, but you, sir, deserve ALL the kudos for the work that you are doing. It is honestly amazing what you have done so far, and I hope that you hit your goals with this endeavor.
This goes to show you how actively sabotaged the developers were at every step. There's absolutely no reason why we could not have gotten a near-arcade perfect port of MK2 on the 32 bit systems.

Just the clouds whizzing by in the background and lighting up the demon masks eyes in the first level was crazy! 😮❤
Even in this early state, this is looking VERY impressive! Keep up the great work my friend. I'm glad to see the 3DO finally get the love it deserves.

This port is coming along excellent 👌👍 just be careful when it's finished , make sure to upload it to Multiple file share sites ( Media Fire and such ) then after it's been uploaded wait 18 hrs before telling us , , , , very important because everything MK is now owned by Warner Bros and they have a Scary Army of brutal Lawyers , , , , the ,18 hour jump allows good chunk of folks to Internet aquire it and float it back n forth preserving your hard work , , , ,😬😮 , 🏆😸👍👍
This is such a great project, it's very nice to see the progress made on the last days. I'll gladly help with game testing, as this is one of the most promising projects I've seen in a while.

Wow, this version is already better than the Saturn & PSX versions. Keep up the great work! It would've been cool if the Dreamcast had stuck a souped-up version of MK Trilogy on Mortal Kombat Gold

O problema foi a má vontade dos devs das versões 32bits. As versões do ps1 e Saturno poderiam ser muito melhores.

This looks fantastic. I just saw that the Jaguar has a MK1 port in the works and Realbout Fatal Fury has a Genesis Port. Incredible. I love seeing all these new fan ports.
Thanks for putting in the hard work on this port. I don't know why but I really have a soft spot for the 3D0. Maybe it's because I couldn't afford it back in the day before it was cancelled and only managed to buy a console about 5 years ago to play the "one that got away."

Just had the sd card in my ODE corrupt, perfect time to install the rgb mod while I have it open..... Cant wait for this to be available. Hope you can monetize on future projects!

About a decade ago I made a mistake of selling a large chunk of my retro consoles and games collection. Thankfully, 3DO and games were still too cheap to be worth selling back then, so I'm eagerly awaiting this release: )
Wow the physics are much better. I can only imagine if Midway or Acclaim actually ported this game to the 3DO.

Great work... I will say the speed of the character animations in the select screen is just a tad faster than the arcade. Which also means their in game animations are faster as well. Its looking extremely well done though.
ty - So it could be the arcade is 54fps and this is 60, so similarly timed animations are effectively 11% faster. Or it's possible there's certain animations I just have timed too fast :)

Wow! You are awesome at programming! I am amazed by what you have done so far!! I want to ask your opinion. If you are familiar with Sega CD hardware, how accurate and improved would a Sega CD port of MK2 be given time and the technology available? I don't know much, but I would imagine the Genesis sprites would have to be used?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with it. I do know that with CD consoles, being able to load everything up front into RAM is critical to avoid mid game load times

Okay I'm being a little lazy here are you porting this To the 3DO or FROM the 3DO to another system? I can only imagine playing this on the 3DO with its original stock crummy ass controllers 😂
To the 3DO.. and yeah I'd recommend using m30 controllers.. not the 3do stock
Jp2x controllers are tight and responsive.

it's weird that a version of this game is currently being ported to the Atari2600, NES, Atari Lynx, Atari Jaguar and the 3DO all at the same time. And another dev is a Shawn.

Are you gonna do any other 3DO ports after MK2? How bout a Sega Super Scaler racer like Racing Hero or OutRunners! I'm guessing anything 3D like Virtua Racing would be way too hard to do. Maybe an expanded version of Final Fight? like add a few selectable SF2 characters(Ryu/Ken/Guile) and add SF2 extended stages!

Yeah it's the 3rd variation.. every arena has 3 variations with minor changes or different backgrounds

That Desert stage looks quite silly maybe replace it with an actual stage from MK2 or MK1?
What MK2 stage is missing

Can I do the same with Mortal Kombat Trilogy N64? I mean I could modify the game and change the characters' clothes color? I have an ever-drive.
I'd love to see a fixed N64 version with Goro, Kintaro, the alternate MK1 & 2 versions of some characters, improved music (I wish they would've just used the SNES music from MK1, 2 & 3- except the Bank & Soul Chamber music, which were pretty decent on N64) & de-compressed sound effects, all wrapped in HD

Pretty much Notepad++, a C compiler, and emulators

@@3dohd I had the wrong idea that it could do pretty much arbitrary horizontal resolution. From some reading I did a while ago, it sounded like at least the framebuffer size was flexible.
The Mortal Kombat series are very renowned of being the worst games to convert.
Its a pity 2d MK has horrible ai. Its why I stick to Mugen versions of the game when I want my classic MK fix.
Yeah - needs an easy mode, and a more enjoyable hard mode where it's not constantly just cheating.
