I struggled for hours trying to figure out how to do this and your video explained it in less than 10 minutes. So incredible thank you so much! You made my day at work so much better!
Very well done! Clearly explained at a pace that doesn't drag at all. I did pause and rewind as needed because I was taking notes to be shared with others, but I'd rather pause/rewind than fall asleep waiting for the next piece of information. Pausing also allowed me to work along with the video to ensure that there were no surprises when working with a slightly different version of MS. Thank you for taking the time to post this video!
+Ashley Brian I'm thrilled to hear that, Ashley. Well, not the part about being overwhelmed. That's my least favorite part. But I'm happy that you were able to get your project done. If you want more mail merge tips, we have a free webinar www.redcapeco.com/classes/5-mail-merge-secrets/ showcasing my top 5 timesaving secrets for mail merge. I hope you find it just as valuable. cheers! Vickie
This tutorial is awesome!!! Thank you! It saved me from typing each on individually and we have 300 plus kids in the program. You are so clear and detailed in your explanation and presentation.
Thank You! You I volunteered to do this task for the PTA, and was completely lost when they forwarded me the excel document...I've always been afraid of excel..But this was easier than I thought...Awesome instructor you are!!!
+redgirl559 Thanks so much for your comment. I'm thrilled to hear that the video helped you overcome the fear of Excel! Hope the project went well. The PTA is lucky to have volunteers like you. ~ Vickie
Tracey Frugoli Oh great! So glad it helped you. I will be hosting a Mail Merge webinar Aug and Sep 2015. Hope you can join us! Visit our Classes page on redcapeco.com for registration details.
Thank you Very much, I've been trying to make this work for 2 days now, just decided to come and watch a RUclips video to figure out what I was doing wrong. This wasn't even my first time but it had been over a year since the last time, thanks again. Success!
Great instructive video! Thankyou, Vicky. It can replace my 4 pages of written notes that I used to hand out to members of the Local Organising Committee when they were organising a Meeting of our society.
Thank you...life saver! I don't do mail merge often enough to remember how to do it the next time, and than it's always a different version of Word I have to do it on. This is a nice, quick, and easy to understand way of getting going on badge printing.
Thank you SO much, I honestly don't know how to best express my gratitude to you for this video. I was on inDesign for 6 hours straight trying to make about 800 name tags and it just would not listen. And then I come across your video, which is so straightforward and so helpful, and just really honestly thank you, and God bless you. So sleep deprived...
+Gabriella Rodriguez That's great to hear! We'll see you next year, then. :-) By the way, we have a free webinar on our classes page at www.redcapeco.com called "5 Timesaving secrets for mail merge" if you want to learn more tips.
Charity Kunold That's awesome Charity! Glad to hear that it was timely and that it is what you needed. Good luck with tomorrow's event. Hope it's a HUGE success. ~ Vickie
Thank you so much! The last computer in our office to have the Avery Wizard on it was recently updated so we lost the wizard. This just gave me back the ability to merge name badges!
This is fantastic. I knew how to do a mail merge to do nametags, but I could not figure out how to do it with a logo. I actually have to do a nametag in a month or so that has 2 logos and people's first and last name. Wish me luck!
Thank you! Really helpful. One more suggestion: beware of paragraph breaks at the end of tables- these stopped my document filling fully, but once deleted it filled up perfectly. I was using a Fuji Xerox template from my local print shop, in Sydney Australia.
Porsha, is it a requirement that the list is in Word? If not, then I would copy the list from Word and store it in Excel. Excel is much easier to use when managing a list. However, if you have to use Word...you can create the list on the fly from within Word. When you select Select Recipients, choose Type a New List. Add people and then you'll be forced to save that list as an MDB "Microsoft Office Address List" file. Let me know if that helps! ~ Vickie
This is great! My question pertains to adding names to my list after my original nametags have been created. For a club that I am creating nametags for, how do I add names down the road as our membership grows and I don't want to reprint all the nametags again?
Hey, this may be a stupid question, but with the latest version of Office, I've tried creating nametags. My only issue is that it only does one page with six name tags. I need over 300, but for some reason, when I have 50 blank pages, and I make labels, it only does one page and the 49 pages disappear. Am I missing something?
This is great except for one small detail. I rarely add a logo or titles, just names, so I want the contents of the cell centered. On a single cell I get the Table Tools tab and under layout options I can center that cell. When I update labels it does everything except the center alignment (horizontal is still centered, but vertically it's aligned to the top). I have to manually change each cell or add returns to the first until it looks correct. Why does that not update?
This was so helpful! But unfortunately, although the name merge works for me, the artwork I see on my screen doesn't print on the labels - only the names do. What could be wrong?
Thanks for the video, fantastic.. I have a question.. i follow the instructions on the video but everytime I open the world doc (the layout that i chooses for the name tag) the curser appears in the middle of the box left aligned. and when i insert the picture, it places itself right there that cant move. Can you help me please??
While Microsoft Word can be used for making name badges, the ones created through it don't even come close to those created by a professional name badge maker. Since name badges symbolize the brand and are instrumental in giving it the much-needed visibility, it's only given that it is designed and made by a professional badge maker.
If the image is a background instead of a logo, and I want to have the names over the background, do you know how to make sure the words are still visible even with the background?
Hi, I am making security badges and the template I have created is in a table for with columns and rows and border shading. Is it possible to do a mail merge this way or will I have to create the cells in each cell of the label template I chose? Or when I hit update will it recognize the columns and rows I have added?
10 years later in 2022. This is still the most helpful name tag making tutorial on RUclips.
10 years later in 2023 and this helped me ENORMOUSLY. Bless you!
This is seriously the most useful and efficient mail merge tutorial in history. Thank you.
Jill Miller so glad you found it helpful! Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Couldn't have been easier to follow & detailed enough to enable me to tweak the name tags to perfection ... Thanks
I struggled for hours trying to figure out how to do this and your video explained it in less than 10 minutes. So incredible thank you so much! You made my day at work so much better!
Julie, so happy to hear you found this helpful! Thanks for the comment. - Vickie
Very helpful, thank you! And not 30 minutes long! Informative, yet straight to the point!

I needed a refresher on how to do name tags - great tutorial. I did not know about the update labels button - hugely helpful.
You are an angel. I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to do this and you explained it clearly. It worked perfectly!
What a HUGE help! I was overwhelmed before watching this video, but in a matter of minutes, my file was created! THANK YOU!

Great video. Solved MOST of my issues - but I'm here to say the list of names you used is classic.
Thank You! You I volunteered to do this task for the PTA, and was completely lost when they forwarded me the excel document...I've always been afraid of excel..But this was easier than I thought...Awesome instructor you are!!!

Great instructive video! Thankyou, Vicky. It can replace my 4 pages of written notes that I used to hand out to members of the Local Organising Committee when they were organising a Meeting of our society.
Awesome! This really helped to get my "Update Labels" button working and being able to view all the labels at once. Thank you.
Thank you...life saver! I don't do mail merge often enough to remember how to do it the next time, and than it's always a different version of Word I have to do it on. This is a nice, quick, and easy to understand way of getting going on badge printing.

Nice job explaining this!! I struggled for awhile also!! I couldn't figure out why Avery doesn't have a tutorial on their web page! Thank you!!
Best explanation AND tutorial ever!

You are a HERO. The only thing is that I see most do it in Excel. I was wondering how can I do in word. (make a list of recipients)

Saved my life 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If the image is a background instead of a logo, and I want to have the names over the background, do you know how to make sure the words are still visible even with the background?
Hi there. Which template were you looking for? Did you want the Excel file with the sample names in order to practice the mail merge?
Do you have video showing how to print double sided name tags?
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUU
Thanks
Thanks for this information, allah razı olsun
hi vikki
