The becoming skeleton is a metaphor to what Kenpachi has become by limiting himself. As you can see, he was only half a skeleton. While Unohana is a full skeleton. Symbolizing that Unohana is fighting with her all to the death and to kill. While Kenpachi is just half-assing to get that high he felt in the past. When Unohana is reflected in his exposed eye, he finally understands what he has been doing all along.

Unohana's Shikai summons the creature to store opponents in its stomach to heal them and basically save them for future battles, while her Bankai makes the arena itself the stomach, where the stomach fluids heal Unohana (and her opponent if she so chooses I guess), prolonging the battle in the present.

People kinda assumed the undead association was tied to the "imortal" aspect of kenpachi, but after this revealation we can also assume that zaraki is associated with the "undead" bc until this moment he lacked in emotional drive when in combat like a zombie, he knows he loves battle but he tricks himself when he think hes enjoying the battles he had until this moment as he uncaringly slumbers to combat... I have been waiting on this. I can’t wait to discuss unohana bankai I remember when I was a teenager. I was so confused, but thankfully due to the animation, I understand it better now my theory is that her bankai instead of creating the monster, she directly applies the stomach acid into a physical domain which amplifies healing abilities to the max she can also use the acids as an extension of her blade I also have a theory that she can actually apply the healing properties only to herself, but due to her love for the eternal battle she lets her enemies get healed as well. That's practically the only way it makes sense given rules about Shikai and Bankai abilities. I remember theorizing that part where it was inside the manta ray thing, but now I have more confirmation that Kenpachi's whole skeletal vision was meant to be figurative of "dying" and getting stronger, not Unohana's Bankai melting them to the bone like I originally speculated

Said this before on Twitter, but the next 3 Episodes of Bleach: The Thousand Year Blood War has the potential to surpass not just the anime, but even the source material itself. EVERYTHING BUT THE RAIN is to put it succinctly: THE MOST IMPORTANT MINI ARC IN THE ENTIRETY OF BLEACH, as well as possibly the greatest flashback arc in the history of the medium. The anime team has already confirmed that Episodes 12 and 13 will be an hour long back to back premiere the day after Christmas, signaling the end to the 1st cour. This is important because Taguchi (BLEACH Director) clearly knows the sheer weight of the next 3 episodes and how it will affect the series from here on out. Unohana fans, rejoice, we have had our moment in the sun, but with the death of our beloved Captain, it is time for the sun to fade, for the clouds to form, and for the rains to drop once again.

Honestly, out of all the Bankai we get to see that aren't explained by a character, i think Unohana's is the most straighforward. It creates a bloody liquid that can both heal Unohana, and melt away wahatever the liquid touches (including herself). It probably is a sort of acid, considering her Shikai heals people inside its own stomach (pressumably using "stomach acid"). I think that is also one of the reasons she learned Kaido, if her Bankai runs risk of even killing her, she would want to find a way to extend the time that she can use it, so in another interpretation, the healing that we see may just be her own Kaido and not an effect of the bankai, as her bankai is probably also literally melting her own body away.
Also, Kenpachi's comment about "I am melting" can have multiple meanings, it can be that he is literally melting due to Unohana's bankai, but also metaphorically melting away his restraints. I mean that is how Kubo writes a lot of things sometimes, it has both a literal and metaphorical meaning...
Also, your question about "Whats beyond the Rukongai ?". Was that not essentially answered in Kubo's "Burn The Witch" ? Beyond the rukongai you eventually reach other sections of soul society such as the "Soul Society West Branch" that we see in Burn The Witch.

    • @D-Havoc
      @D-Havoc Год назад +5

To be blunt, the "blood" that's on the ground and surrounding the battlefield doesn't appear to inherently damage either Unohana nor Kenpachi. In fact we get a good indicator that it's still healing in nature, but rapidly from when Kenpachi cuts her across her chest the mist around them healed her. The "blood" does also seem to be capable of "cutting" when congealed for her sword blade or her flinging them as makeshift projectiles (very reminiscent to the daggers she used earlier). But I don't disagree that the melting is metaphorical. There's just not much to support that it literal given that they've been standing in the pool of blood with no damage to themselves nor the prior damage Kenpachi took when hit by her blood attacks.

Any Quincy could defeat him and Yumichika would defeat him with his Shikai. His physical stats are also very low. If he battled Yuzu in a fist fight, Yuzu would probably win. Okay, Minazuki.
The way her shikai was initially explained, its only power is that its stomach acid can heal people. But we know she wasn't always that kind of character. I find it more likely that her power was originally acid and that when she learned from Tenjirō she integrated, modified, or whatever into her Zanpakutō the power of healing. The melting in her fight against Zaraki, in this case, seems more like her letting up the healing momentarily, their bodies actually melting down, and them being kept alive by Unohana's healing.
I also think that Zaraki was screaming when Unohana first activates Bankai because he starts feeling his skin and muscles start bubbling and melting away in response. We don't see it because it's generally hard to depict such a thing visually, and it's Zaraki, so he can probably resist the melting with just his body and Reiatsu anyway.

I think it makes sense to have Kenpachi and Unohana, and Ichigo share screentime for their personal journey, since Kenpachi and Ichigo are on similar paths of self-discovery. Kenpachi needed to reawaken his true power and accept it, while Ichigo needs to understand his power and accept it as well.
But there is something that confuses me, which is the Sokyoku, as it's supposed to be more powerful than a million zanpakuto and is just used for execution. And it's a bit overkill and underkill for that purpose too, as anyone can kill a soul reaper and Ichigo was temporarily able to block it with his shikai back in the Soul Society arc. Did the Sokyoku have a greater purpose before being an execution weapon? Was it mean to be a superweapon against Yhwach? Did Oetsu create it and then realized it was too much for any soul reaper to use, so it got relegated to a different purpose?

An Asauchi is a blank canvas while a Soul Reaper is the artist.
After lots of practice, the artist manages to make the canvas truly reflect themselves (forming a Zanpakuto/Shikai). The same process for Bankai.
In Ichigo's case, he had no canvas to begin with, all he had at the time were paint and tools. He had been painting in the dark and is not clear about his true nature.
So he needs to go on somewhat of a soul-searching journey and only then will he be able to create a new artwork.

Cap Yamamato was thinking long range. he told her to stay put and not to help anyone, He knew Unohana needed to live so she can heal all the injured. Also to stay alive so she can Teach Kenpachi that he needs to step it the fuck up. He even made Unohana keep his second in fucking command in the barracks with her so She wont be tempted to kill everyone if her Lieutenant got hurt or killed. He also knew Shunsui needed to be the man in charge after his death, he prepped him to be the next Leader of the gotei 13 and he wasnt shocked it was expected no matter how much his lazy ass didnt want to do that shit. Bankai is focused on healing herself, as for the blood around her I think it could be like how Old man Yama's Bankai contained the people he has killed. Unahana's is probably filled with the blood of every person she's killed. All being used to heal her own wounds/be used offensively, just to make it even more metal.

He beat the 7th Kenpachi only because that guy couldn't use his Bankai out of fear of collateral damage, he literally admits himself that he could have not been able to beat him otherwise.
He was only able to escape the effects of Aizen's Shikai because he like hard counters it.
Almost any character which actively is able to absorb Reishi (so basically every Quincy) could counter his Bankai.

If not, then I am extremely impressed with her voice range and work ethic. She probably put the time to learn about her so she can prep with a new demeanor but still maintain part of her voice that sounds motherly. I wholeheartedly expected they would hire a different voice actor for Unohana just for this arc and for this specific scene.
