My thoughts? It was freaking awesome!! So many cool shots! Those red LED's with the Astra sign were soooooo sick. And the music was a great fit, too. Good vibes! Makes me want to sell my one kidney that I still have after buying two rolls of CineStill last year... :D
Thanks so much for your comment Mr. must-be nice, really appreciate it ✌🏼Oh, so you have shot Cinestill before? How was your experience and how did you like it?
I’ve never shot Cinestill, but if you’re looking to lessen the halations I’ve heard that a diffusion filter helps with that. I noticed that some of your photos had some starring at the light sources. In my experience / research this comes from shooting at the smaller apertures (f8-f16) and a diffusion filter will help get rid of the starring, too. I personally use a 1/4 diffusion filter.
Joseph Stitt I never saw the light stars as something to get rid of since I often enjoyed the look of those. However, the idea to use a diffusing filter is pretty cool indeed, I was thinking to get a black pro mist filter at one point to diffuse the light and get a more vintage look in some situations. They are unfortunately pretty expensive, but in case I will get one I will for sure also try it out on a future roll of cinestill. Thanks!
This video is so Genuine and so much more then just a review. Everything about it: your pictures , music and video editing. It's like looking A movie! Thanks for posting this!
I've always loved super wides & I really like Cine Still 800T @500. Gorgeous Images Karin. Thank you for posting this--I know it was a boatload of work for you & for Basti.
‘Berlin Got Blurry’ - Parquet Courts. Awesome shots Karin! Do it for the art, I love it! Great use of cinestill, your video makes me miss getting lost in Berlin…subways, music, the food, and beautiful people. Can’t wait to go back. Just subscribed. Cheers from Los Angeles!
Your photographs are stunning. The combination of Cinestill 800t and the Leica M6 worked very well. It was also lovely to see many familiar places in Berlin! I did a photo walk there with my Leica M9 just over a year ago, and another one with my Fuji X100 in December. It is a beautiful city to photograph. Thanks for the great video and beautiful pictures.
Thanks for your nice comment, I appreciate it! Berlin is a lovely place to photograph, so many interesting spots and people. Hope I can go back some time soon :)
Jokes aside... one trick I do while metering for night with an external light meter is putting the meter really near to the position f the lens, that trick Is used for large format but it is useful also for smaller format, otherwise, great video! I am more in love with Cinestill 800t now!
Karin, the more I look at these Berlin subway photos taken with Cinestill film the more enchanted I get. I have not used Cinestill film but find the pictures to be like using a very fast color reversal film. I still use Fuji Provia F slide film (love the detail and color of reversal film) and may try Cinestill at some point. Shooting at night where there are lit cafes, shops and bookstores would be ideal--if only the normal night life would return here in California. Your shots were marvelous and you looked so cute in that video too. Regards.
You have my respect for shooting slide film in challenging conditions such as at night. I love shopping slide film from time to time (Provia and Velvia are my favourites), but definitely feel a bit nervous due to the fact that it does not handle over- or underexposure well, so it's even more important to get the metering spot on.
I discovered your channel when I was researching medium format film cameras but I subscribed because you are an excellent photographer. These are beautiful images and your choice of film definitely complimented the subject! Great work and I look forward to watching all of your videos.
Karin, I am loving these available light shots you made with your Leica M6 of the Berlin subway. The lighting is soft and the colors in the station area give a relaxing and slightly mysterious mood to the pictures. You motivated me to get a more portable & easily collapsible tripod in the process. You timed the photo shoot well when commuter. traffic is less which gave you more opportunity to get the station into the shot vs people's heads. You concentrate and care about your craft, and you do not rush your shots which is great. Must be summer when you did these because your attire is light and are not encumbered by heavy coats--a win. Good job. Even w a mask I can see your smile. 🙂🙂
That is such a heartwarming comment, thank you so much, Norman! I am really tiny and cannot carry so much weight on my back for a long time, so I also really appreciate a rather lightweight setup like this one. I hope to visit Berlin again next month or the month after and I will make sure to pack some more rolls of Cinestill for the trip. Stay creative and have fun shooting! :)
I watched this video months ago, and now, after shooting some film, I see it with new eyes. Great stuff, Karim. Lovely pictures and amazing vibes! Keep it up :D
and with "new eyes", i mean, I've also been experiencing the horrible situation in which you are not on bulb mode when shooting during the night, and also carrying out a tripod everywhere, haha. Unfortunately, I haven't had the joy of taking pictures that are as good as yours...
absolutely amazing shoots. I liked the one with the very yellow subway train the most (at about 3:14). But they all stand out. Makes me want to just go out and take some photos immediately.
I love comments like this - if there's only one person on this planet that feels inspires to grab their camera and go out to shoot because of my videos there is nothing more I could wish for. So thanks, this means a lot, I hope you will catch something good ⚡️
Also danke dir. :)
Thanks for the kind words, this means a lot! I feel like cinestill itself is just so cinematic, everything you shoot on this stock just looks like a film still.
BTW the cheapest way to shoot Cinestill or the original film stock Kodak Vision3 is Silbersalz35. It’s a German movie production company that offer Kodak Vision3 for 35mm photo cameras+true Cine ECN-2 development+high res scans all for a price that’s about 4 rolls of cinestill without development (60€). Check them out, you might like it if you havent heard of them. I plan to get my first rolls for Fall/Winter season :)

Very nice. Cinestill worked very well in that setting. The forest mural on the wall reminded me a bit of the South Ferry station in NYC. Haven't ridden the subway to the office since late February at this point.
I love those train station interiors that are more on the creative side, this fluorescent blue forest is a pretty cool juxtaposition. Wow, that's been a long time, what crazy times we live in. I hope you are your family are alright and healthy.
Wow! Amazing shots. Probably the best Cinestill 800T gallery I've seen on RUclips. My favourites are 3:00 and 3:12. Would love to see more Cinestill related videos from you 😍
Thanks so much for your kind words, I truly appreciate it! I still have a roll of Cinestill in my fridge and some other rebranded Kodak Vision 3 500T without the remjet layer - so I am sure there will come some more, just not sure when :)
Excellent work. Interestingly I had been debating about getting this stock all this week, so this was a perfectly timely video and I just placed an order for 5 rolls. Also, not related to the photography element, really really appreciate you wearing a mask in the video. Inconvenient but responsible and so happy to see it.
You will not regret that decision. Cinestill is not a cheap film for sure, but with all of the three rolls I have shot so far I felt like they were worth every penny. Would be interesting to hear about your experiences after you shot it. And: thank you! Even though it is mandatory in Germany to wear a mask in closed spaces such as the train, a lot of people to not follow the rule. It was uncomfy but for me this is not a reason at all not to put it on.
These are some of my favorite shots I'm seen on Cinestill, & I've been watching a lot of videos because I just picked up 2 rolls of it. Very well done!
Awesome video, loved being introduced to this new place and I love subway stations. Great shots too, cool style tilting the camera upwards for lots of them.
Karin, I love your work and your aesthetic. I can't pick a favorite shot, they are all favorites. You have inspired me to try Cinestill. Reciprocity be damned! Fantastic video! Andy
Loved this Karin, there were few favourites but if I had to chose one it would be the first train shot. I love the results of cinestill and I want to shoot a role photographing all the signs some day with it.
Nice shots! Such a cool place I would love to photograph someday. Those stations have such ornate interiors. I like how a lot of the images have a dual balance between ceiling and open space. It really accentuates the interesting lights. Good choice on the wide lens!
Thanks for your elaborate comment Andrew, I appreciate it! I found it rather difficult to compose with such a wide lens, therefore I am glad that the balance between ceiling and open space was not too far off. I bet the subway stations in Japan have a lot to offer as well though?
@@KarinMajoka The stations in Tokyo can be very interesting and I love a lot of the left over 80's and 90's angular but sometimes playful design. That said a lot of stations are getting renovation or have been under construction for the last few years and can become a little bit bland in my opinion.
Literally just discovered your channel, already binging through your videos! awesome awesome awesome!. favourite shot is either the scooter, or the beautiful domed ceiling shot
Thanks, Madison! ⚡️ Oh, that’s unfortunate, the London Underground must be pretty nice for Cinestill as well. I don’t even know how the rules in Germany are, but at least late at night there is nobody to through you out 😬
Just watched this one and Berlin POV and they're such wonderful videos! I really love your style. As for the cinestill + wide-angle, it's perfect. That shot at 2:35 is just incredible.
Before you announced the film, I went through in my head which film I'd use. Then, as I settled on Cinestill...you displayed the film stock. Carry on, thanks.
Karin, you ARE an Artist. Just like you, I like to walk alone with my tripod, trying to capture the beauty in the cold Nordic nights. If you are ever in Helsinki, Finland, I would be very happy to go on a photo walk with you and buy you coffee as my respect for your work. We have some interesting architecture and cool light installations, that might interest you. Keep up the great work! I know you are not after fame. And, that's why I believe you will garner a lot of it very soon! Viele Grüße aus Helsingfors!
Hey Sid, thanks a lot for your comment, I truly appreciate it! I was struggling for a long time to see (my!) photography as art and I am still not there yet - but, getting feedback like this helps to grow more into the idea that art can be any sort of expression. Finland is for sure on my list, since it seems like such a fascinating country to me. I’ve been to many places in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, but somehow never had the chance to do that little detour to Finland. So in case I‘ll make it there one day, I‘ll let you know! What are your favorite subjects to photograph? ⚡️
Hey @@KarinMajoka , It's so kind of you to take the time to write me back. I appreciate it very much. :) As any artist worth their salt, I am sure you are your biggest critic. It sucks, and yet, it's essential to keeping us on our toes, humble. Finland would remind you a lot of Copenhagen, Stockholm and St. Petersburg (if you've been there). There is a part of Helsinki, that is preserved still and showcases the architecture from the Russian regime. And, then, the modern architecture is very functional, minimalist. I will find you on Instagram, so you could see what I like to shoot. But, to answer your question, I shoot medium format and my subjects are usually dark alleys, people and oddly lit things and people. I love shooting in the night. What about you? What inspires you to go out and shoot? Vielen danke, nochmals! :)
@@sidm.9982 That pretty much hit the nail in the head, I am very self-critical regarding my work, and while it can sometimes be a pain because nothing is "good enough" it surely also pushes oneself to go further, rethink things and try again. I have been living in Oslo for a while (and visited Copenhagen and Stockholm several times) and was always fascinated by Scandinavian architecture and the clash between old, historical buildings and modern, cold, glassy ones - so I can anticipate. Interesting insight, I will for sure check out your work over on instagram. Well, that's hard to break down to one reason, but basically I would say that I always seek for a way of expression and ways to understand other people and myself which motivates me to go out and shoot. So basically I enjoy photographing people (on the street but also portraits) just as much as urban landscapes and human residue, if that makes sense.
Thanks Hashem, I really appreciate your comment! That's true, just the lightest offset of the horizon looks pretty skewed with such a wide lens. But it was a lot of fun to try to compose differently with this one.
This video is great. Not too slow, great music
Sold my kidney for 3 rolls of cinestill *pulls out Leica M6*

I super love the shot @ 7:33
Thanks! I was not too happy about the outside shots with the red neon lights at first, but the more often I see them, the more I like them.
Deine Videos und Fotos sind so toll 😍😍.
Danke dir ⚡️✌🏼
That lens is amazing! Beautiful pictures. =)
Daniel Montenegro thank you, I am also pretty happy with it, since it’s wide, yet not too distorted.
Excellent
Thank you :)
This is easily one of my fav channels now!
thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! ⚡️
I only have one roll of Cinestill and I can't wait to try it out. So keen after watching this, great video!
Thank you! I am sure you will enjoy this film - have fun shooting and stay safe. :)
Those beautiful shots were definitely worth a kidney!
I quickly recovered after getting my scans back from the lab, so it was worth it I would say
Wow....wonderfully taken... I like them very much :)
thank you, Franklin :)
Great.
Thank you! ⚡️
Before you announced the film, I went through in my head which film I'd use. Then, as I settled on Cinestill...you displayed the film stock. Carry on, thanks.
Overall a great film, especially for situations like these. :) Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
Great shots and a cool vibe. The colors in the shot at 2:20 are magical.
Thanks for your comment Markus! This was one of the shots that turned out nicer than I anticipated it would. :)
this is awesome!! cant even pick which frame is my favorite. great shots!
Thanks for your kind words, I appreciate it ⚡️
Karin, you ARE an Artist.
Hey @@KarinMajoka ,
It's so kind of you to take the time to write me back. I appreciate it very much. :)
As any artist worth their salt, I am sure you are your biggest critic.
Wow sick shots
thank you ⚡️
This was great! It's not easy composing with such a wide-angle, but this all came together really nicely
Thanks Hashem, I really appreciate your comment! That's true, just the lightest offset of the horizon looks pretty skewed with such a wide lens. But it was a lot of fun to try to compose differently with this one.
Great photos.
Makes me want to take the train in Los Angeles at night.
Also loved that beat up lens.
LA must be a great place for night photography, have fun shooting! And thanks a lot for your comment. :)
Wow most of those shots realy looks like films scenes! über cool
Thumbs up for "über cool" ✌🏼thanks for your comment, I appreciate it!
beautiful
Great series! love the colour rendering of CineStill and the mood you captured with the wide lens. Favourite one at 5:19.
Thanks four your comment Guilherme! It's so interesting to see how everybody has a different favourite image, seems like it differs quite a lot. ⚡️
Beautifull 😍 i like subway images, and the wide angle lens worked perfectly 👍
thanks! I think ultra wide angle lenses are sometimes not as versatile, glad that it worked well in this context :)
The 15mm is a bold choice, but these look great! Well done.
Thank you Benj, I appreciate it! :)
