  • In this tutorial Alex Shorrock shows you how tie his version of the Ronnie Rig when using a lead clip. The Ronnie Rig / Spinner Rig is one of the best rigs to tie in carp fishing due to the ease and quickness of changing the hook after a bite. It's also perfect for pop ups or wafters too!
His version of the Ronnie Rig using our Clinga hooks is not only one of the easiest rigs to tie but it's also gives a great hook hold and can be used in the UK or aboard to catch big carp. When set up on a lead clip it's perfect for when fishing over boilies, a spod mix full of particles or even casting at shows with single hook baits.

I used the ronnie rig with a long bait screw put on x2 11mm pellets and caught 20 carp in 8 hours I did this because I was losing a few fish using a standard hair rig and I knew how great the hook holds were of the ronnie and to my surprise it worked great.

How do you know that rig catches you “bonus fish” ? Why do you use THAT hook “with a lead clip setup” ?

Hi, good questions. I think Alex is referring to his catch rate, which has increased since using the rig. And also, the ability to change the hook to get the rig back out quickly, enables more rigs in the water during the fishing time.
In solid bags with a Ronnie or a Ronnie on a helicopter set up Alex prefers using our wide gape hooks, due to them being slightly smaller. It’s also trial and error with the hook holds he gets and experience of what hooks he prefers to use with the different set ups of a Ronnie he uses. All down to person preference, and him reflecting on what he feels works best for him with what set up.

Should be called the Dave or Laney rig because Ronnie didn't invent it.

35lb is ridiculous, any snappage and the fish is trailing that 35lb noose until it spits the hook, which could be weeks! Dedicated 'carp anglers' are the actual worst! Bet you have at least a 20lb mainline too and just rip the head off every fish.... absolute toolbag

Yeah, seen some carp that can't even close their mouths due to people dragging them out of snaggs, fishing locked up. Literally their Jaws have been dislocated.
