Agree you’ll want something else eventually …i’ve not done any super long rides for a while but when i was riding 300-400 km then orange juice, coke, water, nuts, crisps, dates, oat chew bars etc were my go to,peanut butter if i felt like it….depends doesn’t it…re-supply…logistics…..🙂👍🏻…just to add i’d play around using different electrolytes either making my own or using brands 👌🏻
Yeh agree completely. Mixing things up keeps it interesting too. Nothing worse than having to hammer back the same food for multiple days on end. Variety is the spice of life right?!
Just about to finish the Via Fracingena from Susa to Rome. I came across dark chocolate with hazelnuts as well as the salted peanuts. I’ve also enjoyed mineral water because of the minerals. I also agree about the fat cravings after about 4 days. BTW, I’m a complete novice at bike packing.
Congrats! Sounds like a great trip 👌🏽👌🏽 Ohhh the chocolate and nut combo sounds epic! Need to try find me a block of that on my next trip. Enjoy the final days of your adventure 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Nice one Jack! I reckon a meat pie is so underrated, particularly if its been raining. The dirtier the pie better. I stopped one day on the way to mills rd east at the petrol station and slammed a choc milk and a pie. Calories, fat, salt and dairy and a warm tummy.
Nice one. As a vegetarian I was very pleased to see the options weren't burgers, as I can use all these tips! Funny you mention mouth ulcers, I haven't had that but definitely get a sore mouth with sweets and all the E-numbers and acidity no doubt. Plus, yeah, they're pretty gross unless short bursts. Personally I love the Blocks chews, but not sure I'd carry them multi-day.
Snickers ! Count me in ! Using electrolyte tablets during and after is probably something i should do more often . Do we use one for every waterbottle ? I was rhinking maybe one tablet for every 2nd bottle when riding
Yeh that’s a great question. If you’re en route and not using a sports carbohydrate mix like the GU Roctane (electrolytes built it) then I’d definitely be popping a tablet into every second bidon. If the electrolyte balance in the body is too low, your cells can’t actually absorb the fluid, so it’s key!
@@jackultracyclistofficial ok thanks , I just drink water and junk food normally :) . Also a bit conscious of too many electrolyte tablets if that's an issue . But yes think I will do one tablet every second from now on cheers
@@jackultracyclistofficial I plan to only use them when I ride for longer than 3 hours , on some bikepacking adventures and long days training. Thanks for the advice cheers
Not a tragedy for an ultra cyclist. Perhaps the only good thing about fructose from corn syrup is that it replenishes liver glycogen very efficiently. So, bad for a sedentary person as it leads to NFLD, but for a cyclist it’s actually a good thing. Goes right to the liver glycogen and pays you back later. Just my two cents!
Sorry, but I don't get your advice! Why eating fatty nuts and the worst sugar at the same time. I get the point with the calorie density, but i think it's much worse for the stomach compared to sandwiches, bread and pastry
Sandwiched, bread and pastry are great, but difficult to carry lots of them and they don’t have the same calorific value as some of the other options mention. In saying that, they’re fantastic options for when you need some more ‘real’ food 👌🏽👌🏽
You got me with the burgers clickbait. But agree you can’t go wrong with snickers and coke. Decades proven friend to the ultra cyclists out there.
Haha, burgers coming in at number 5!
Cafes, Pubs & Restaurants are my choice - I’m in no rush.
Nothing wrong with that approach either!
Great vid mate.. do you have a vid of you doing your normal days eating to calories consumed etc 😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍
Cheers Pete! Not yet, but I’ll add it to the list of videos 🙌🏽🙌🏽 Anything else you’d like to see video wise??

Haha 200% Love me a good pie. I do miss them here in Europe, especially with a good dollop of tomato sauce 🤤🤤

Burgers (meat and or vege) are great when cold or just needing that extra pick me up of real food! Keep on smashing it 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Here here
Skratch works great and tastes superior, but it's awful that it doesn't come in the tablet-tube form.

I think so long as you’re exercising, you should be ok!

I just put electrolyte powder in my mouth wash it down with water. Faster that way compared to guzzling water with it.
10 Snickers: that wouldn't have been pretty!
"Two Chiko Rolls and a Spearmint thickshake thanks mate!" 👍😋🤢
Haha the chiko roll, classic!!! That brings back good memories 😂😂
How do you secure the bike outside of the supermarkets when traveling with bike bags?
I’ll normally take it just inside the front door and take the front thru axle out (robber proof it) - just got to remember to put it back in!!
@@jackultracyclistofficial Right, Thanks
🙌🏽🙌🏽
remember, that soft drinks in the US have high fructose corn syrup instead of sugar.
Very true 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Appreciate that insight, always good to know these things. Cheers!
