I’ve noticed this from
Just shopping in both Lidl and Aldi that they have a different way of working to other Supermarkets, they certainly want their “ pound of flesh” out of you, their employees are flitting around all day multitasking non stop and this seems to cover delivery drivers as well, “you deliver it you unload it too” that should be the job of the Warehouse guys, as a driver you have enough responsibility driving a huge truck and bringing it to them! No wonder they’r always recruiting for staff!
Thanks for this vid mate, a good insight into what you have to do sometimes!
Self tipping is total nonsense dont agree with it never have. Its the drivers job to get it from A to B NOT B to C its time we bit back and put a STOP to this ridiculous practice.
Self tipping seems part of the job, the part to fight back is charging £1 for a van inside a warehouse vending machine lol
It’s been going on for 20 years. It’s not going to stop now. And whilst you unload, you are still getting paid.
I'm a class 1 driver for Aldi and we have to tip our loads at store. Occasionally have to load the trailers at the depot too. We're also a self-tip warehouse. I think that's just the German way. Saves money employing people to tip trailers. To be honest, I'm quite glad to tip my own loads. The way I see it, it's a way of getting some expand stretching the old legs. You see so many drivers delivering into the RDC that are so obese that their thighs rub together. At least if you're back and forth tipping your trailer it's a way of getting instant exercise and getting paid to do so.
You’re not alone. Well done for speaking about this. I’ve had some dark times on and off over the last few years, and found it very difficult to open up about that. Thankfully I have a very good friend who has been there too, and we can comfortably talk to each other about these things and that helps so much. This world has gone a little crazy over the last few years and that really isn’t helping any of us. Finding that balance between work and home life I think is a big factor, and having a hobby of some kind to help take your mind of all the stresses really helps as well. Stay strong 💪🏻
Thanks mate 👍
Self tip is always better than sitting on a bay for hours being ignored at Tesco !
Yeah thats true 👍 ✔️
Tesco Lichfield is a nightmare for this 😂
At least you get unloaded and get done
We used to charge demourage, after the first 1 hour we charged £60 per hour waiting. These were 1980s rates. Probably more nowadays. Are you insured whilst doing this work ?
It is never a good idea to self tip using someone else's equipment. Some places were notorious for the queues to get tipped and loaded.
You should always charge by the hour for demourage. Some Companies Bibby distribution (though now sold to Menzies) actually charged the consignee £80 for their drivers to help with the unloading, but failed to pass it on to the drivers.
Looks like a steady little job that, have people seen what the pallet carriers have to put up with? There was one tipping at ours earlier and his next job was a pallet full of books with a manual pump truck to a high street address.
Great video as always
Cherrs bro!
sounds like chaos self tipping, lorry drivers might damage product offloading
I'll take a self tip over a driver's waiting room any day of the week.
100% atleast you know it's getting done haha
I would not . Rather waste my duty time in a waiting room than work for nothing when I’m paid to wait.
Brilliant first-person shooter, without the shooting. I really enjoyed this. Currently taking my Class 2
Thanks mate really appreciate it 👍 and best of luck with your test!
I enjoy a bit of self tipping.
Only did self tip in Lidl once years ago didn't know you should be trained the first time you go there kept crashing into the side of the trailer good fun I was laughing my head off as I was unloading.
Haha brilliant yeah they do have a mind if their own
it's really helpful for a new pass that you're showing the whole process instead of a lot of vloggers that just cut once they get to the delivery point which I find frustrating. There seems to be mixed opinions in the comments on self tipping. I'm guessing it would take me 3 times longer than a warehouse employee that's used to doing it day in, day out but probably still quicker than waiting hours to get tipped. Who train's you up on the procedure's and using the equipment for self tipping??
Yesh i don't mind it we get extra for it and it's exercise at the end of the day, you usually get an induction and someone shows you once then away you go..
The way I see it, if you work on behalf of Lidl it's part of the job. If you are delivering to them from further up the supply chain, it's not.
Self loading and tipping is not too bad. As long as you are firm about what is and isn't your job it's fine.
The main problem with this self tipping rubbish, is that the driver is not insured to work on their bays!! The last time I went to an Aldi, I brought back the four pallets I had for them because I wouldn't tip them myself. another driver on the bay tipping his own load, said "I don't blame you drive, more drivers should do the same", which I saw as ironic as he was tipping his truck.
I will be doing my hgv c+e very soon. Your content is really helpful and entertaining too. I've been looking for a video that gives a somewhat comprehensive overview of all the extra buttons, switches, controls that are in the cab of a hgv compared other vehicles. But I can't find one. Can you possibly do a video on this 👍
See what i can do mate! And good luck!
Every truck manufacturer is different, when you start with a company they should do vehicle familiarisation with you so focus on the test and everything else will fall into place, good luck
@@truckitprayle Yes do that pls 🙏
Throwing money away.. And you won't find work
I used to self tip with pallet truck and tail lift. Pain in the arse at times but enjoyed the fresh air and keeps you fit.
Trunking now and kind of miss it.
What do you do now then?
@truckitprayle on nights now mate. Moving stock to other dc's and docks to send to Ireland. So much easier at night with no traffic on the road, just a bit sketchy with road closures.
@@craighatton6399 yeah i did nights for a week hated the road closures but my jobs where in london so made it very stressful lol
@@truckitprayle yeah I've heard a few tales about London, glad I don't have to go.
Wouldn't mind trying containers but there aren't any local to me I don't think.
Why people are moaning is beyond me you have a pump truck and it's pallets 😂 I used to do nights in parcelforce years ago and tip 11 of these everynight full to the brim with parcels someone of them the size of me hand now that is graft took over hour each one absolute breeze that moving few pallets
Helpful video this. I've just started working for Culina and I haven't had a Lidl delivery yet. We also do Aldi, is it the same setup where you tip yourself?
Yeah its pretty much the same at aldi mate.
Thanks for an interesting video, I'm doing my HGV license at the mo and this kind of content is really helpful....one thing be real careful with using your bank card on a video, you were holding it with numbers facing camera!
Good luck mate appreciate it 👍
Self tipping at lidl is a pain, although quicker than sitting on a bay waiting, self tipping at Aldi is even better, in my experience at Aldi, if you're happy to self tip then once they're free, the blokes on the forks usually tip the rest for you even if you've only pulled 2 pallets off, all they ask is that you then pull the wrap off 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah its got its pros and cons i guess
@petercoleman2834 I can only offer an opinion based on my experiences 🤷🏻♂️
i would read your employment contract.. if it doesn't say anything about loading and unloading the truck then don't do it.. if it says there.. do it
Where I work we have drivers who tip on break. They're shooting themselves in the balls. If VOSA pulls them they'll be in the shit, plus we're paid by the hour so they're doing themselves out of wages.
Exactly mate aint worth the risk!
Could you do a video of what it’s like getting into trucking like a beginners series or what to expect from when starting. Thanks I’m advance
I do have something like that on my channel but i may make a better version soon 👍
after 40 odd years as lorry driver my advice is don't bother its not worth the hassle
I used to deliver sea containers to consignees who used to try to order me into their containers to help with the unloading or even loading.
I thought they'd take offence to my remarks telling them to fuk off but I never received any complaints from the shippers or the office.
I do remember aldi distribution centre were trying it on but two things happened at Haywood Manchester, 1, the idiots realised they'd been caught out after unloading themselves and finding out they still waited hours for it to be checked off to get their paperwork and, 2, one of the truck drivers had to go to hospital because he had run himself over with the heavy electric pallet truck.
Nufsed.
Yes, I remember delivering a 40ft container filled with boxes of cheap toys. Come on drive come and help. Unload your lorry. I got out and explained what part was my lorry was mine and what part was theirs ( the container). I told them I'd done my bit sitting on trinity dock waiting for it then driving all night to deliver it, curtains closed, 😂 also done the aldi bit too taking the pallets onto the shop floor, (yeah right)
@@stevedawson256
Lol.
It's their own fault for forcing us to learn how to read and write.
Ha
Agree with the self tipping ( mine are cages ) . Put too much weight on otherwise.
Yeah some days a don't even open the back doors and i feel so lazy, so its nice to mix it up.
Some people just want to be steering wheel attendants
Both lidl and aldi are getting free labour its a disgrace its allowed to happen, last time I went to lidl newton aycliffe I demolished most of the pallets because someone didn't tell me how to operate the pallet trucks and the euro pallets got split in the process but as I wasn't happy doing their job I just dumped them all in a pile said nothing and got the paperwork signed, these companies are asking for trouble with their penny pinching
Also that is not tipping, tipping a trailer is with your hands handballing it all off that's a proper tip I'd call that a unload at a push haha
Warehouse Lidl £17 ph/Trucking unloaders not quite as much, what a mugs game.
💯 lol
I had this at Chelmsford Lidal unload yourself what a pain in the arse. A load of us chucked class one in for the coaches they are starting to muck us around so we are saying get Christmas out of the way then back on the wagons . We can't really moan 4 days home every night £37 K . I'm getting to the stage had enough of both be 31 years on the road this year perhaps I'm becoming a miserable old sod . I like the easy life fridges sod containers
Haha, yeah it can get to ya now with all the idiots that are on the road.
Its one of them...I too did a Lidl tip and I did have a shock as I wasnt pre warned about it and yes its frustrating when youve been on the road hours already BUT it took me 20 mins to do 26 pallets where as i dont think Im ever on and off a bay within an hour and a half at best! 🤷♂️
Yeah exactly it has its good points and bad i guess
@@truckitprayle Buuuut it's just a wonder who is liable for injuries and accidents because I didn't sign anything and my induction was a guy showing me how to operate the pallet truck in let's say very layman's terms 🤣
When I first went to Aldi I refused to do it and got told to leave site so I took it back to were I got it from never went there again.having done some work for Lidl you have to load the lorry your self which I was not happy about. They stack pallets with light on the bottom with heavy stuff on top and when you unload them at there shops they fall over. Had one go over at spalding and asked for help to re stack it they said they did not have time to help me so I said that I did not have time and I left it there never heard anything about it hated the work.
It can be a bit of a ball ache i guess
Been self tipping these German supermarkets from day 1.theyve always been self tip. What is it with these so called new drivers. Jobs never been so easy. 😅😅😅😂😂
I don't mind it to be fair, bit of exercise never hurt.
Once turned up at self tip lidle ended up takeing it back to yard refused point blank
🤣🤣
@@truckitprayle the reason I refused was one the other drivers brook his arm while unloading washing machines he was of work for 8 weeks when he tryed to claim booth the companies insurance companies refused on the grounds he shouldn't have been unloading the trailer it wasn't his job as he wasn't trained to use a pallet truck
Looks like lidl Enfield. Maybe wrong, but if it is, there toilets are the worst I've ever used!
Yes mate it is, they are awful 🤢
I believe its warehouse work. Who counts it in.
Who takes responsibility for warehouse work accidents? I see the benefit of a quick tip time but is it really the right way?
I mean some people like it some don't, i just enjoy doing something different every now and then i wouldn't want to do it every day thats for sure.
@truckitprayle I do store deliveries but think goods in should be accountable to warehouse, more so for discrepancies, shorts and damages. But I see the frustration of waiting hours.
Yeah its one of those situations i guess you can't win lol
Do you get paid for toll fees?
The company has an account and pays them.
@@truckitprayle I'm with an agency and they don't pay for toll fees
@@TRUCKERJOESthen don't go the toll route.
Much prefer tipping myself at lidl, better than waiting in line for the fork lift driver who is tipping a few trucks ahead of you, some who are early and should be behind you. Although the pallet trucks at Wednesbury are all knackered, and you may get a dozen pallets off before it goes flat.
Yeah i agree 👍
Hate this place must be the worst lidl its a dump and the staff dont give a about you They used to have a good system in place were a lad took your paperwork off you as you drove in and allocated you a bay worked fine no bays blocked or drivers parking along wall but now in there wisdom hes gone and everyone dumps the lorry near to booking in office and you have to deal with i love myself blondy who aint intetested in anything you say waiting time 3 hours last time i was there im hoping this place will be leveled when the new one opens on m1 near luton 🙏
Yeah i waited 6 hours for them to sort paper work once as the dates where to short or something 🤔
I think Id rather a manual pump truck than those things Jesus.. why is there a throttle. electrical assist makes more sense. you may as well just use a lolup at that point..
not done my c1 yet. but the way I understand it why would use break time for tip.. if ya just chilling waiting for a tip may as well knock it to POA and rack up the free hours.
Whats up with shittingbourne lol
Nothing really, we just go there alot and it gets boring lol
@Truck It Prayle yeah I work in sittingbourne so know that feeling haha
WOW ! so sorry for you. You have a MHE to help you. Try it as a Tesco driver, when the backdoor man has to pull all the cages off and into the warehouse by hand. No MHE,, you have been sat on your arse for hours, bet you complain about any back loads, my heart bleeds purple for you, such a hard job you have. And an HOUR to do a single !!!!! I Can do a Decker on my own and backfill in 75mins, GO GET A LIFE AND STOP COMPLAINING.
Haha, love that your that sad you needed to comment this on Christmas day, and if you watch the actual video i wasn't complaining i actually quite enjoy it. 😄
Merry christmas hope you having something better to do for the rest of day 😅
They are not even cheaper now.. So i say f... them
This is true lol
You are 32 but your looking 42 my friend. English get old really soon 😅
Stressful life and f you 🤣
Cant stand self tipping its bs
Company I did containers for we wasn't allowed to go into container they had a set time to unload an load of three hours then after that one hundred pounds fine each hour after that .
Yeah we should do that haha
@@truckitprayle well just depends on if you work for a crap country are a good one.😂🤣😂
Lets all boycott ALDI & LIDL.
BEEN there done it ALDI/ LIDI . WESTONSUPERMARE / BRIDGEND SOUTH WALES . i LUCKY class2 pallett work 2 palletts pity arctic guys 24 palletts 1/2 wait to get on bay another 1/2 hour tip , gey paperwork 1 hour 4 2 palletts LOL. . LEAST u get electric PUMP UP .
