The 2025 and 2035 were the only models based on the PRR K5- all the others, as far as I know, had no specific prototype. Originally the 2025 and 2026 were 2-6-2 models with diecast wheels. When Magnetraction came out, they were replaced with the 2035 and 2036 respectively, which had a 2-6-4 wheel arrangement and sintered iron wheels. The 2036 did not smoke. During the Korean War period, Lionel temporarily had to discontinue producing the locomotives with magnetraction. The old 2025 and 2026 numbers were brought back for these models which lacked magnetraction due to the wartime material shortages.
The 2037 was identical to the late 2026, but had magnetraction. The pink version was numbered 2037-500, but the suffix only appeared on the box and in the catalog, not on the shell of the locomotive.

I like how you show off operating accessories with the engines, nicely done.

The mid-size are my favorites, they look great under the Christmas tree or other small layout, impressive casting detail and beauty without looking like they're chasing their own tail. They're also very well made and rugged locos.

Im working on getting all the line up of the 2-6-4 variety. Im only missing the 2025 and 35. I also have every year of the 2020 including with red brush plates except the last year. Your set up is top notch!

Great video! I always loved the smaller size locomotives from Lionel. The 2037 is my favorite

How do you clean all the track?

I think with the amount of track he has, he probably uses a track cleaning car

It doesn’t look like it but I am wondering if you run any modern engines? How do you get to the center of your layout? The milk car behaves the same for me, that is, it doesn’t. So many beautiful pieces on that table. I have a Christmas Layout, not confined to a tree but the room. O72 curves and three O72 switches. There is a small town on one side. I only have track rights from Thanksgiving to the first weekend in February.

I do not have any modern engines except for one, the big boy. The layout is designed in a way that I can reach any point, some with a little stretching.

trains seem to be going too fast for those 031 curves

Oddly enough the 2-6-4 arrangement wasn't used in North America very much, more of a UK and European thing.
Kind of fitting that one of the names of the type is the "Lionel", as there were so many Lionel locos made with the wheel arrangement.
Bit of a side note, out of curiousity I'm wondering how much more equipment you might want to do a video on? Seems you've got most of the prewar and postwar period covered for Lionel.

With prewar, I am done. With postwar, I still plan 5 more videos on locos and I have not yet covered cars, accessories etc.

Any plans on anything after that? Will admit it'd be sad to see no further content, as I've found all the videos on Classic Lionel both entertaining and informative!

A big reason for it is the extreme curvature of Lionel track. It’s hard to make a locomotive with a 4 wheel lead truck , without the wheels hitting the cylinders.

Thank you for this and your other videos. I wish you would do a layout configuration with what track was used where. Would love to see it. Thank you.
