Whale Wars is a weekly American documentary-style reality television series that premiered on November 7, 2008 on the Animal Planet cable channel. The program follows Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, as he and his crew aboard their various vessels harass Japanese whalers off the coast of Antarctica.[1] On December 27, 2011, Animal Planet renewed the series for a fifth season.[2]

Love the show. I personally know someone who worked on one of the Sea Shepherd ships. Everyone fighting for the lives of these whales are amazing heros. Battle on!

Don't waste half an hour of your life reading the comments as I just did. Basically some people think whales should be food, others think that killing an intelligent animal by firing a grenade into its body is unnecessarily cruel. Pick a side, personally I think whaling should be banned completely.

@@freelanserns187 Personally saying, I dont believe that much that the Japanese are doing it only for research purpose..But the thing is the selling of 'Whale Meat' that was taken for research is permitted by IWC (Read it a puppet Because "IWC" has actually nothing much to do if any other nation goes for commercial whaling in the Southern Sanctuary)..So we cant do anything about it unless anyone goes to stop them like Sea Shepherds are doing.
I think it's a waste of digital space, and I don't give a FUCK about whaling. Let them do it. Let them sink you if you try to stop them.

I know, right? They don't care about the whales, they get tons of money to make stupid symbolic gestures that are meaningless, and get to be on tv to feed their egos. None of them were ever in any real danger. If there were no cameras on them, they wouldn't have done any of it.
This doesn't mean I support the whalers, I absolutely don't. But that doesn't mean these twats are anything special, or brave, or courageous. Japan didn't call off the hunt because of them or anything they did, there was probably 100 other more important reasons than that.

Exactly, they were in so much trouble they deployed a cameraman to film the ordeal and luckily had the delta tied to the boat for the engine troubles. The boat would not have left the divers unless it was staged, this is the kind of stuff we know is staged and why we dont trust a word they say

actually if you did your research you would know that Sea Shepherd has made a big impact on numbers of whales/dolphins killed in taiji and antarctica! and i don't think you can judge anything they do unless you are there giving your life to protect these beautiful creatures sea shepherd is full of amazing people doing what the goverment is too lazy to do!
I’m not saying their mission isn’t a good one, it’s just so dumb how inept they can be on board a ship. They have nearly killed people several times by their complete inability to run a boat. It’s a miracle they haven’t lost a life while out in Antarctica

I don't understand the hate in almost all of these comments below. Sea Shepherd are one of the less organisations who actually do something against illegal marine mammal hunting. All other organisations just sit in their offices and don't achieve anything really.

The sea shepherd are the type of people that would yell at you for fishing at a pond, then throw the caught fish back into the water.

Im not sure if they just edit to make it look as horrible as possible always but I've never seen mariners have so many problems with EVERYTHING.
I am licensed but have minimal time flying helicopters, so if any helicopter pilots can explain why the one in this show could not obtain flight I would enjoy knowing your thoughts. I heard what the narrator said, but I didn't quite understand. I would have expected the ship to turn into the wind so as to facilitate lift. Why wouldn't a max performance takeoff put him in flight? Or was this just made for TV drama?
Drama i bet.. helicopter had more than enough lift. There weren't even white caps in the clip they showed of the helicopter taking off.

26:00 is the scene referred to. Hard to believe the producers would make up that scene just for drama's sake (said with sarcasm).
He should have had no problem taking off. I’m a private pilot and the winds do not effect a helicopter’s flight as a fixed wing aircraft. This entire episode was a joke!

I went on a diving trip years ago. One of the Sea Shepherd guys was on the dive boat with me. He smelled like he hadn't showered in months.

On April 1st the International Court of Justice legally skewered Japan’s “scientific” whale hunts to the Antarctic Ocean. The hunt is partly paid for by the sale of meat to high-end restaurants such as this one, which is why opponents brand it as illegal commercial whaling in disguise.
To the surprise of Japan’s small band of whale-meat lovers, the court agreed. Twelve of its 16 judges sided with Australia, which brought the case, saying that Japan had no scientific reason to cull about 1,000 Antarctic whales each year. The court noted that the research had produced just two peer-edited papers in a decade, in effect tugging away the figleaf used to keep Japan’s whaling programme alive since the international moratorium in 1986 which ended commercial hunts.

No, but you're not far off. The Ady Gil was the one sunk in season 3, and after that incident, Sea Shepherd purchased the Gojira, but later renamed it Brigitte Bardot due to copyright issues.
In later years, they also purchased the Sam Simon, but the captain was weak and allowed the harpoon ships to refuel right in front of him.
After some time, Sea Shepherd shifted their focus to simply document and observe, and even collaborating with pro-whaling countries. Then, they literally ousted Paul Watson for opposing them. Paul went on to found his own foundation, the Neptune's Pirates, and purchased his first ship, the John Paul DeJoria. He personally led action against Iceland's whale hunt and the Grind, and will do so again this year. Then, just today, he unveiled his second ship, the Bandero, which will be used to oppose Japan's return to Antarctica later this year.

@@jorge-052 If you're asking about this season Operation Divine Wind (2010-2011) the vessels they've had at the time were 4 small boats total, the M/V Steve Irwin, M/Y Bob Barker, and the M/V Brigitte Bardot.
The vessels they've obtain to use in their last 2 anti whaling campaigns were the M/Y Sam Simon (named currently changed to M/Y Age of Union) and their newly built advance flagship vessel, the M/Y Ocean Warrior, that was specifically designed to outrun any whaling fleet's vessels through the harshest weather/icebergs. Sadly they've stop using the Brigitte Bardot because it became too unreliable and it truly wasn't designed to go up against the whalers in the southern ocean 42:02 .
